Should we rest our main rotation players for this game?

  • Yes. We need to tank for the 4th Seed so we can avoid San Antonio

Totally agree. The main fun of sports is the excitement of the uncertainty of the outcome. Even if your team is down, there’s always the possibility of a great comeback. If I know that I can just fast forward to the end of the game or check my phone for the score, there’s no uncertainty and no excitement.
Oh I won't know the outcome before I sit down to watch. I always stay away from social media if I plan on watching a game later. There are some events, like a Timbers game or Ducks football game that I'll watch even if I happen to have heard what happened.

Was it an acquired taste for you as life got busier?
Or was it just something that really never bothered you to watch recorded games?

Because Im different than you and how things feel and the enjoyment I get out of them in comparison to someone else is subjective? Ok thats snarky, I apologize!

Anyways. I think its just the way I enjoy sports, I love the “group” environment that comes with them. Whether its texting people live while its happening, or threads in here or, with friends or whatever. I mean I have watched recorded games, and usually if its the “same night” or whatever it can still be fine, but most of the time, watching a game way behind the rest of the world just changes the experience for me.
Ya, I think because I am always working sports, I never actually watch anything in a "group", besides the wife and kids. If you notice I never post in the game threads. If we are on the road, the team will have viewing parties. Like for the Super Bowl, or the other day with the NCAA Championship. Thats the only time I watch anything with other people.

I thought you stayed away from game threads because its, (wow how do I say this gently) a little emotional at times...

Until you've worked behind the scenes at sporting events, you don't really know what it's like to watch the entire thing and see little of it. Re-watching later is the only way to take it all in.

Now with technology it's obviously easier to record and watch later. But when I was a kid, I'd record almost every NBA game that they aired. Back then it was only Blazer games and CBS/NBC/TBS games. So a handful a week. I'd set the VCR up to record games. Even if I was watching. At low quality, you could get 3 NBA games on one tape. I'd label the tapes, then throw them on my parents bookshelf. Watch them again in the summer. I have always been a hoop junkie. My mom recently brought over a huge moving box full of the tapes from her garage and they are now in mine. Eventually transferring them to MP4s and keeping them on a drive.
Was just looking at them the other day with my son.....some great old Lakers vs Sixers and Celtics battles of the mid 80s. And all the Bulls runs. Plus TONS of old school Blazer games from the 80s and 90s.
So I guess sitting down and watching a recorded game for me is no big deal.

If I didn't do what I did, I'm quite sure I wouldn't check out game threads anyway. Too many bi-polar nut jobs in here. Trade CJ one minute, he should be in the hall of fame the next. Fire Stotts at halftime, by the end of the 4th he should be coach of the year!

Well I love watching “old” games, even just a season back or two, I can do that. Watching 80’s basketball the ball movement back then was so awesome to watch. Its more like the experience changes for me when its the “current” thing.

Why the fuck are we WINNING

OKC is not okay. Getting bounced by Westbrook is a nightmare. I hate the guy.

LOOSE THIS FUCKING GAME !!!!

What a disaster we are going to play okc fml

We are toast, we are going to play OKC

Unless they broke their legs and will miss the playoffs, it won't matter much for us.

Are we gonna get swept!?

Another 0-4 sweep coming ugh

Enjoy Blazers, that’s the last win for 2019 season

Westbrook and Paul George will get all the calls against us.

I think we’ll get 1 but it’ll be another 1st round exit I feel bad for Dame he’s starting to develop that reputation nationally.

How can we beat OKC when they swept us with a healthy Nurk?

We'll talk after the series and then you can explain again why OKC was better than utah

I'm 100% with you, brother.

I love the suspense of knowing the rest of the game hasnt happened yet, and that I'm watching something as it develops. Could never record games and be into it the same way.

But when you watch them recorded, isn't it the exact same situation? You don't know what has happened yet or what will develop.

Tunchi thought he was slick with his avatar picture but his twitter was also a pic of Tupac. It's like he's just flaunting being here still now.
And the mods are behind, again. His posting style is so obvious.

Surely you at the very least realize that you're massively in the minority in this one. I mean, there's a reason that Dame's most recent commercial is about Hulu having "LIVE" sports.

I totally agree I don’t see how people will have the motivation to watch a sports game when it’s finished already. I get what HCP is saying when he’s busy but fuck that I’ll just recap with highlights it’s not that serious to me to watch on dvr

If you avoid the news then watching it later is still like watching it live. With exception if forum friends snd others you cant converse with. Out it.

Im still on the edge of my couch watching though.

Just cause one records it, doesn't mean its to just skim over.

Ahhh i got hcps back on this one.
I think alot of people record and watch later. Maybe not in this forum, but in general.
I do every game.

I agree with HCP. I think I'd even rather watch replays than live to be able to skip through all the dead times
I like to record, then start watching about 30-45 minutes in. Gives me all the benefit of skipping over the dead time, but then I catch up to live TV somewhere in the 4th quarter. Best of all worlds, IMO.

I think a lot of people record games, and its perfectly ok just not how I personally enjoy it.
With how busy your life is what happens if you can't watch a game? Knowing I can watch a game later if I'm doing something with the kids or at work is great in my opinion. Sure, I'd rather watch it live (especially the playoffs) but watching some regular season games on delay isn't a big deal at all. I almost always am able to avoid knowing the score so it's still a good experience. Because of the DVR I was able to watch every game this year with the exception of the first game we lost at Minnesota. I was at a restaurant and there was a TV right by our table with the game on that was impossible to not look at. So I saw about 1/3 of it and knew we lost and didn't feel like watching it when I got home.

I'm both pro-Live and pro-DVR.

I missed more games this year than I have in the past I'd still say I got about 75 of them. It can be pretty hard to make things work out so I can watch every game. When I miss one I'll usually read some recaps. The good thing about being a nerd is my house and my work (heck even the gym) has "screens" almost everywhere so there were a lot of nights I watched games on my phone while I helped out with getting the kids ready for bed, not the best viewing experience but it works.

I should probably get more into using my recording devices it'd make the evenings smoother, especially those stupid east coast games trying to watch those ones live is a real struggle.
