Game ball: B-Lo doing his thing offensively against Pau and Bynum
Lame ball: VC disappearing in this game. where was our leader?

Lame Ball: Brook Lopez

He can take his 17/10 game and shove it. His post defense was horrible. He was a second late in his rotations and was only shown mercy when Bynum settled for bad shots instead of pounding the ball inside. He was great on offense, but laid an incredible egg on defense.

game ball ...... nobody

lameball ......the bench and.
team defense

special honors for lame ball .... ryan anderson

game ball... yi for showing us that he can actually attack the rim and draw fould. He's also shown more aggressiveness on defense.

lame ball... the refs for suddenly forgetting that Devin harris was supposed to get at least 6 more trips to the line. (all those non calls in the beginning of the game)

You really fault Frank? Why!?

They would have lost anyway, but he left Vince and Harris on the bench way way too long. Not sure why he always pulls Harris first. And if you pull him that soon, bring him back sooner to guard Farmar - Nets had no one who could handle him. For some reason Harris is on the same substitution pattern as Kidd last year. It seemed Frank was kind of resigned to lose this one once they lost the lead and rest up for the rest of the trip. The Lakers left their starters in a little longer in the third than the Nets, and it paid off, because Gasol went off, and that was it.

Lame ball for me goes to the entire bench. Horrible D and not O. Although Hayes shot okay, he took two horrible quick shots when the game was close, which led to a Laker run. Dooling and Anderson go 1 for 13. Can't win when the bench is that bad. Dooling had his worst game of the year. Farmar abused him. Could they have drafted Farmar instead of Marcus Williams? Dang, could have had Farmar and Granger....

Yi actually played a piss poor 2nd half. Got abused down low, and missed some wide open js, and took some tough 3s. My game ball goes to Vince, he was going good, but they didn't go to him enough. 11 shot attempts?

It's possible that he was conscious of Sean's three early fouls . . . remember the Nets only have two guys right now that are capable of playing center.

Just a poor shooting night all around. Especially out of Dooling/Ryan Anderson.

Other than Sean, they did manage to keep their fouls down, plus they rebounded the ball well. And they kept their turnovers down. They just didn't hit their outside shots.

A valid theory, but I don't know...there's a big difference between playing soft and playing late.

When you lose by 27 points nobody deserves the game ball. Nets front line just flat out got abused downlow. Both Yi and Lopez quit too early on their guys. One move and they're beat.

On a side note, it was nice to see Yi take the ball to the hoop a bit more in this game. I thought he could have taken Gasol off the dribble as often as he wanted to.

game ball goes to Brook for exactly as mentioned earlier in the thread, he held his own against Bynum and Gasol.

lame ball, this one really stuck out to me....Ryan Anderson... his D was very off tonight, grant it Odom was mostly the factor into it and lately he just hasnt been hitting his 3s.... rookie wall already?

Lame Ball: Simmons, couldn''t make the open threes.
Ryan Anderson, couldn't make a shot.

Game Ball: None. Maybe Lopez.

And I don't think Lopez had a terrible defense game,

without him in the paint, Gasol and Bynum would score over 65 points.

He is the only one big man that can handle Gasol and Bynum.

Game ball: Yi and Lopez for performing well against a much more experienced and celebrated frontline.

Lame ball: I would say Carter, except that his energetic, attentive defense and ball denial was one reason Bryant was so ineffective. But real lame ball is Bobby Simmons. This team can't go much longer waiting for its starting SF to find some modicum of consistency. He almost makes me long for Boki. When your only role (and skill) on offense is to knock down open jumpers, and you can't hit the side of a barn in big games or at big moments when there is no defender near you, you shouldn't be on the court. If Frank doesn't at least experiment with Hayes or CDR as a starter (when CDR returns, moving VC to 3), I may slit my wrists.

Lame Ball: Devin Harris, VC, Ryan Anderson, Sean and Bobby Simmons

Game Ball: Yi, Brook Lopez and Jarvis Hayes

Yi showed his aggressiveness last night, Brook for a rookie at the Staples Center clearly getting in NBA shape this season 17/10 and stops in the paint, his D would have been better had the bench wing defenders not allowed so much dribble penetration, his help D was very good. Jarvis Hayes atleast learns from his mistakes put emphasis on the block out and I was extremely impressed w/ his shot selection. Brook and Yi it's all experience w/ them but they stood out while Devin Harris and VC underperformed in LA, Ryan Anderson, Sean Williams and Bobby Simmons (END THIS SIMMONS ERA!) just were plain pathetic, I'm extremely disappointed in Sean and RA's game last night, they are better than that.

Frank wants Hayes off the bench and I don't blame him. Simmons' deficiencies can be somewhat masked when playing with Devin, VC, Yi, and Brook, but if you start looking for him to give you something off the bench when those guys are taking a break you're pretty much fooked. If CDR looks capable when he comes back (plays with the same savvy as Anderson and Brook have for rookies) hopefully Simmons will achieve Hassell status, but until then I think this is his best role. :sigh:

Game Ball: I say Yi - even though he didn't hit his shots much, I thought I saw a level of confidence and ease on the court I haven't really seen this season from him, and I liked it.

Lame Ball: The bench.

Game Ball: Yi - nobody mentioned his rebounding. He pulled down a few nice defensive rebound in traffic, which lead to fast breaks. There was one impressive offensive rebound, too. and also like everyone else said he was aggressive going to the basket. His man defense on Gasol was bad, but how many people in the lead can say that they can shut Gasol down?

Lame Ball: Frank - he didn't lose the game, but I thought some of his substitutions were questionable.
VC - Didn't really see much from him

Come on Yi was 3 for 9. He got scored on at will, and was stripped by Kobe in the decisive run in the third quarter. And he missed some wide open jumpers during the run. Didn't see much from VC because Frank sat him for too long while the Lakers went on their run.

There were plenty of players that are unguardable one on one, Gasol was the player last night. Yi, lopez or whoever could not guard him one on one. There were no double team, not much help D, or whatever from the Nets, not saying that would helped, Lakers can beat you pretty much from anywhere, I guess Frank decided it is best not to double and live with Gasol scoring. That's not what killed the Nets though, Lakers bench just destroyed our bench. Three of LA's bench players got 10+ points, while our bench completely sucked. Dooling 0-5 shooting, 3 turnovers, -25 +/- in just 18 minutes. Ryan Anderson 1-8 from the field. Sean Williams fouled out in 8 minute of playing time. I think Frank let the bench on the floor for too long in the 3rd quarter, which let the game slip away. You can't blame Yi for losing, I thought like I said his rebounding was good and was aggressive which we weren't seeing from him before.

Not much you can do, when a guy whacks your arm and the refs let it go because it's Kobe bro.

However I do agree about his outside shooting. He needs to nail those open jumpers at a much higher %.

Game Ball: Frank for resting VC and Harris at the end for today's game.

Lame Ball: The Lakers fan who said he can "cover his ass" with my signed VC jersey in the rain and the other Lakers fan who said "Vince goes last" while in line to the urinal. :(

Yi did get stripped a few times, but lopez got striped like 6 times. They are rookies and will learn eventually.
