One thing I missed in the finale was, what was the significance of the coin that the young stark girl used to buy passage to the north on the boat? Where did she get it again?

Between that made up non existent part, and the whole made up conversation about Jamie and Tyrion's cousin who smashed beetles, i was like WTF? that's about 5-7 minutes of wasted time you could have used to explain other more important things.

The girl received it from a certain man in exchange for giving the Red God three names.

ahhh thx, I thought it had something to do with him.... but why was it so significant to the boat captain or are we not suppose to know that yet?

It was basically the code phrase of the Braavos Assassin's Guild. The coin and the words together are like a secret mafia handshake. She gets free passage, in exchange for not killing the captain.

:ghoti:

I never interpreted it as an unintended threat before. Interesting.

Totally my own headcanon... but if you say to a guy "All men must die." and give him a coin only an assassin ever holds, and the guy says back "all men must serve" and gives you everything you ask for... I'd say you just intimidated him and he took the hint.

The fun part is, she obviously doesn't know all this, but she could back up her words anyway.

Interesting take, I never looked at it as a threat, but I suppose one would be implied. I always thought of this as more of a belief system, or cultural belief..when she has that conversation with the Kindly man, and they discuss the nature of the many faced god, that the faceless men serve, she is asked "Do you know any men that live forever?" Then she is told that all. men must die..as all men must serve. Then he goes on about the nature of service the faceless men preform etc..

Good call; I'd forgotten that exchange. It was just a hypothesis I had.

He told her if she ever met someone from Braavos, to present the coin to them.

I seriously considered watching ahead but do not trust the few links I found at the time. With the show changing so much it is like having never read the books. Think I will only watch as they were intended to be shown.

bah this show is pissing me off straying so much from the books. blah. :\ oh well...

George r r martin said the show has changed his opinion on so many characters anyways. Imo it's a good thing, some stuff just wouldn't translate as well from the books to tv

The show is going to be done by the time the next book is released at this rate.

Grrm hopes to release the next book before the next season, but you're probably right about dream if spring.

Was the crippled stark kid in the new season at all?

The analogy from a writer was "it was cooler to see Luke Skywalker all of the sudden be a Jedi Master at the beginning of " Return of the Jedi" than it would have been to watch him train for an hour beforehand."

I think this means Bran will be back next season with some sort of laser sword.
