What I saw was simple.

1. Boyle absolutely blows as usual. Yet, he has value around the league for some reason. He can't handle the puck for crap.
2. You have two very good playmaking centers that essentially have no wings that can score with Nash, Cally and Hagelin out.
3. Lundqvist is not off to a good start but again, the team can no longer score with all these injured forwards.
4. I didn't realize Pouliot could hit like that. He was mad at Salvador and destroyed him. If the guy could play like that on a consistent basis, it would give the team a great, physcial role player.
5. I thought the team had some huge hits but I never felt they would do anything offensively.
6. The 4th line is all wrong for Dorsett. You can't have a couple of non physical, soft players on the line with Dorsett.
7. This team needs to trade for an Ott from Buffalo in the worst way. If they need to dump Boyle and Stralman to do it, so be it. Allen is playing very well at Hartford. To me, Stralman has never been a big deal.

I personally loved the 3rd goal. There are 2 moron defenseman, 5 feet in front of them and right behind them is a Devils forward sitting all by himself with neither defenseman trying to move him. Beautiful.

Curious dump, how do you know Boyle has value? I am not asking to argue, I am simply asking because I'd like to know how you know that?

Personally, I have no issue with Boyle IN THE RIGHT ROLE. A 4th line of Boyle, Moore, and Dorsett is a very solid 4th line. That should be the 4th line, and let's foucs on the top 9.

It is pointless to get worked up over last night. Fully healthy we don't have enough scoring, you take out Hags, Nash, and Cally and we have almost no shot to score. So what is the point of getting worked up over that, I won't.

Worst part is Hags is out 3 more games at least. Nash it could be weeks or months, who knows. And Cally is out at least 3 weeks. So those guys aren't that close to returning. That is the scary part.

Lastly, what concerns me WAY more than Boyle is Pyatt. It is a big issue because AV seems to love him, must be the connection they have from the past. Playing him on the PK. Playing him on the 1st line. That is a HUGE issue. Worse than the Torts/Boyle thing we dealt with the past few seasons. To me Pyatt is useless and awful. Sather should take AV's toy away, because AV can't seem to be realistic about what Pyatt is. That is the guy who should be gone ASAP above everyone else. And bring up a kid. I see no added value in Pyatt for us.

Chuck you kind of answered your own question on Boyle. When put in the right role is he actually pretty effective. There has to be a team out there that is looking to add size to its 4th line, improve its PK, tighten up its defense, and get better on faceoffs. Basically a team which feels it is set on offense but doesn't have alot of 2 way players or a team struggling in its own zone, in the faceoff circle, and on the PK.

I'm fine with dealing Boyle because it seems we have way too many Boyle type players now. Once he is elevated into an offensive role it's just a disaster. You're right in that a Boyle/Moore/Dorsett 4th line is pretty good, but when you're also dressing guys like Powe and Pyatt and elevating some of of those 5 to higher roles.....

That kind of is my point Prod. Sure you can deal Boyle, but for what? When I see dump say he has value I take that to mean we could get a good piece back for Boyle, not we simply have the ability to flip Boyle for a late round pick or another 4th line guy. Of course we can do that. His contract is small, and is up after this season, so yeah of course we can get someone to deal for him, but can we get anything of real value? That seems to be what dump is implying, that is why I am asking.

As for Boyle, personally I wouldn't deal him just to deal him. Put him with Moore and Dorsett on the 4th line and focus on the top 9. Get rid of Pyatt now for anything. And flip DZ in a package for a decent scoring winger who can score 15-20 or so goals per season.

That would have been my ideal offseason as it was. I really like the sound of a Boyle/Moore/Dorsett 4th line. I wanted to build a package around DZ to send to ANH for Bobby Ryan, not because he's the savior but because rumors were everywhere that he was available. So clear this team needed one more guy up front entering this year.

We agree. And I like a Boyle/Moore/Dorsett 4th line as well. That would be real solid.

The MDZ issue to me, and this is what people need to think about, is what happens this summer? The kid will want minimum 3 years at 3 or 4 mill per. That will be his deal. I see no way he gets much less than that, and a better shot he wants more than that. So unless you plan to give him that deal, and no shot I would, you must deal him.

The way we have dealt with DZ has made little sense to me. Once we got Moore DZ was expendable (Moore is a better DZ IMO). So why won't we pull the trigger? Does he have no value or does Sather not even try to deal him...I don't know. But dealing him in a package for another scorer makes so much sense, which is why it hasn't happened I'm sure....

Bottom line to me is unless you want to sign him to the deal I called out above, and no way I do, then he should be dealt now. Waiting until the summer and then dealing his rights would be taking pennies on the dollar and very stupid. I for one will be watching the DZ situation very closely this season/summer. And if it plays out where we get almost nothing, or re-sign him for the deal I said, I will flip on Sather.

Boyle was asked about at the deadline a lot from all the media sources talking. That was because he had a good playoff the year before. He also had a good playoffs last year. He's a bad regular season guy most games but seems to be a good playoff player. He wins faceoffs. Teams who are contenders like guys like that. I thought Boyle-Moore-Dorsett would be a good 4th line. Now, I see that line is stupid. I feel bad for D. Moore losing his wife but I now remembered why I don't like him. He doesn't do anything very well. I would much rather see a 4th line of

Yogan-Ott-Dorsett or Mashinter-Ott-Dorsett or Miller-Ott-Dorsett than that 4th line.

Mashinter stinks. If you saw him here game after game you would realize he is no different from the other 4th line types we have. As for Ott, I don't see Buff dealing him away for cheap, why would they? And don't say for Boyle. Why would awful Buffalo want Boyle, who is gone after this year anyway? If they dealt Ott they would want something for the future, not a Boyle type player on a team that is going nowhere. A Boyle who you said stinks in the regular season but is good in the post-season, which means nothing to going nowhere Buffalo.

Maybe we can work a DZ package around getting Ott and some other pieces from Buffalo. Not sure, but I do know we need something. Unless we know Nash is back soon, we cannot win hockey games with last night's lineup. And if Cally and Nash are out for weeks more, that is not good. Call up the kids, might as well. Even if Hags is back game 11, we cannot survive as is with no Cally or Nash for weeks.

Because Buffalo sucks beyond belief and Ott is useless there. As usual Chuck, you underrate all the Rangers players and overrate every player on other teams. Ott is a 4th line guy. Nothing more. His value is nothing more than Boyle. If you read my original offer, I included Stralman. This isn't baseball where guys just go to UFA happily. I'm quite sure Buffalo could lock up Boyle and Stralman pretty easily for another 2-4 years. The defenseman are terrible on Buffalo.

It is not about underrating or overrating anyone dump, that is something you get stuck in that head of yours. I am telling you Buffalo would not deal Steve Ott, their assistant captain, for Brian Boyle who is in the last year of his deal, and stinks in the regular season as you said. Just stop man. You want to package some picks and a kid, okay then we will talk. But Boyle for Ott is not close for Buffalo, no doubt about it.

If all these magical deals you always list in here, you know the ones where we give up very little and get someone else's decent player, were possible...then why don't they ever happen dump. If we could do Boyle and filler for Ott, why isn't it done? Either Sather is a bad GM for not making these magical deals, or they cannot be made because the other team won't do them.

With all due respect man, you live in fantasy land sometimes dump. You say everyone underrates our players, I disagree, but I do think you way overrate our players dump. If not then we'd have about 10 more deals done the past few years that were absolute steals for us.

Chuck, you haven't got an f'n clue who and teams will and will not deal. You always talk about other players in absolutes. You have no freakin idea who GM's will deal. When the Rangers struggle it's always the same thing with you. You think all our players blow and nobody wants them. You didn't think anybody wanted Gomez and they got McDonagh for him. You thought the team would have to give up all their top prospects for Nash and they didn't. You didn't think anybody wanted Higgins and Kotalik and Sather got Prust for those guys. It's pointless to talk to you when your in sulk mode because you don't think clearly. The Rangers have been a winning team for the past 8 seasons. I'm disappointed they haven't won the cup with Hank but I'm also not going to tell you that there is a GM who could come into the biggest city in the world and do better than Sather. I have no idea if there is somebody available that could do that. I said from day one that 95% of all GM's are morons. Sather is no different in that he's been a moron at times. However, he's still created a team that has had 8 winning seasons in a row without drafting in the top 3 once.

What you who are a Sather hater have to ask is the following. Do you want Sather to trade off Hank, Girardi, and MDZ, tank this season in an attempt to draft number 1 to 3 the next couple of years? If you don't, than shut up because there isn't going to be a GM out there you can hire to come in here and lead this current group to a title.

Here is what I KNOW. ALL the time you throw out these deals that are steals for us. Most of the board says come on man that can't happen. You then call us clueless idiots who underrate our players and you know better than us. Then the deal that would be a steal for us NEVER happens, and yet the next time you throw out some crazy deal that would be a steal for us, and we call you on it, we are again idiots. It is a cycle in here dump.

It is comical stuff really. And then you go back to the Gomez for McD deal. One of the ALL TIME STEALS. Yes that was an epic steal, no doubt about it. Guess what, that is a once in a lifetime kind of steal. And where is Gainey now...out of hockey, and I am sure that deal played a HUGE role in why he is gone.

If you could find me a GM that could do better than Sather, fine. Fire Sather today. The reality is that you probably couldn't. The few great GM's are not getting fired. The rest of the guys are only as good as either top 3 draft picks or those one or two all time steals that make them look good for 5-8 years.

I agree with you there dump. There are many terrible GM's. But sadly for us, Sather is in that group also. He has been a disaster here. I don't have to make a case for that. I don't have to debate you back and forth on that. I can simply say look at the actual on ice results he has put up here in 14 + years, and it is game over. That simple really.

I mean, people kiss the BlackHawks GM's ass. He drafted 3, 7, 3 and 1. He missed on two of those picks. However, he took Kane and Toews and he's not winning jack without those 2 guys.

Bottom line is the roster needs a major cleansing, whether they deal a few of these guys off during the year for picks or maybe a 15 goal guy(for DZ) that can help keep them near the playoff line, it really dosen't matter, they'd actually be better off getting a top 5 pick for once and an impact player who can plug into the roster next year. The next thing is for Sather to put his ego aside and step down, as long as he's here we're at risk of more dumb signings which will only cripple things further. Try Gorton out, he's young and did well with Boston when he was there, they need to start getting FA right from year to year to build this thing the right way. It sucks that we may have to wait a few years here but there's no choice. They need to get these current prospects developed right so they can be counted on going forward. No more chasing the 8th seed just to get blownout in the 2nd round after squeaking by Washington, then ending up with the 20th pick. It's a cycle that's gone on too long.
