Game Thread vs Hornets

We lost, it sucks. But we kept it close against a good team on the road. And our boy Greg showed the rest of the NBA of whats to come!

A few things. First, we have no idea how to use Oden. We don't get him the ball nearly enough.

Second, Oden is still at 50% of his effectiveness. He doesn't know what he's doing.

Third, Oden didn't even play 30 minutes.

Fourth, Przy didn't have a game like that in his second game.

GO is going to be special.

Ya, but we were going the other way before, trying to force the ball into him way to much. This game we went the other way. Now we'll find a happy medium.

There were a couple times that a player could have pass off to him for a easy jam. One was when Aldridge was blocked. He could have just handed the ball to Oden for the jam.

i couldnt believe we were getting important 4th quarter points from Greg FTs. Thank god he can shoot those.

OK, but plenty of players have had much better 3rd games to a career. Let Greg become Greg. that is the point that I gathered from Cowherd and Dawson. I didn't see the need to call them out on a message board for having a valid point of view.

After sitting out a year because of surgery straight from one year of college play?

Minny is gonna be hungry and if we play like that again, we won't beat them.

wrong. If we play like that against Minny who doesn't really play Defense we win all day all night and twice on Sundays ... unfortunately tomorrow is Saturday, so we'll see.

Why do people think I am criticizing Oden? I am thrilled, as I posted with my "chills" posts in the thread? Good God, the poor guy has people like you expecting him to be Superman.

Hopefully this means more PT for Oden. I'd like to see what he does in 30 mpg.

You are defending the writer(s) that others are bashing on a board where that is just what a board is for.

Cowherd did NOT say that.

He said that Oden would never be a great offensive player.

He said that Oden was Benoit Benjamin.

Which is ridiculous on both counts, in my opinion, given that he'd based that opinion on about 30 minutes of Oden gameplay.

We should have learned a valuable lesson tonight. Of course, we didn't learn it against the L*kers, so I don't expect us to learn it tonight. The lesson is that to the agressors go the calls. NO mugged us all night, and the refs let it go because they set the tone. We should learn to play defense like that; we have the personnel to do it.

OK, but my position is that Oden played a tremendous game. What is the point of anonymously bashing the writers? I'd like the basher to respond as to what he was bashing. Neither Cowherd nor Dawson said Oden was a bust. PERIOD.

He's the best center prospect since, at least, Shaq coming out of college.

He was considered the best high school center prospect since Lew Alcindor.

Stop it with the "people like you" comment when we're just seeing the same things that others have seen for several years now.

Oden hasn't proven to be a great offensive player at any level. I happen to think Cowherd is wrong, but how did Oden disprove him tonight?

This was a very encouraging game to me. Oden played well, was productive in limited minutes and the Blazers took a top team to the end on the road...and didn't even play their best game. Based on this game, Portland is as good as anyone other than the Lakers. Of course, I think the Blazers will have pretty high variance, so they could easily lose to a bad team. In the end, I think they could compete for a 5/6 seed.

But really, the emerging cheer of this early stretch, beyond the quite strong record, is the emergence of Rudy and Batum and the development of Oden. If those three players develop as hoped, Portland will be fearsome.

I'm not disappointed with the loss tonight. New Orleans might be the second-best team in the West... and maybe the third-best team in the NBA.

And Portland was just as good as them tonight, in spite of not shooting well.

Oden was very good, of course, and I'm thrilled to see what he does tomorrow night on his first back-to-back.

LA actually shot the ball very well and I was impressed with his rebounding.

It was too bad we didn't steal this game, but I'm very encouraged overall.

A friend told me my head explodes and reassembles itself a million times a second. It does it so quickly that it doesn't impair my ability to live and the atoms disperse so it doesn't impact my environment.

I happen to think my friend is wrong, but how do I disprove him tonight?

...

Please. You're defending Cowherd calling Oden BENOIT BENJAMIN. It's ridiculous.

Just give us time. :devilwink:

Good game despite the loss.

It is going to take some time for this team to learn how to play together. Too many new players, too many different styles of play - but we are starting to see exactly what the big deal is.

This is a rookie, in his "3rd" game, after more than a year off and coming off MF surgery. Yah, He is going to be a beast.

We did not see Rudy taking over and shooting enough this game. We will need to think about that. We will need to have Roy run only 66% of the plays in the 4th, not 100% of them - this will make it harder to guard him - and it will open others when he as the ball. We will need to go down to Greg a bit more - he can hit his FT and can put whatever clown that guards him in foul trouble.

It's going to take a bit of time - but this is going to be one kick ass team...

Well he's had a 14/26/1 game.

He's had a 15/10/3 game.

Let's call it a draw.

My bad. I didn't know he scored 14 in that game against the Clippers and I was there! Courtside! How could I forget?
