This guy does have some power. Why is he so selective at bat is it the teams decision? He leaves meatballs go by and then has to hack at crap. Why not give him the green light and we will have a power hitter. Teach McCann to hit to all fields and his average will increase with his homer production.

...I've brought this up many times;

Gardner on 1st pitch career numbers; .401 .419 .638 1.057

Gardner after 0-2 pitch career numbers; .174 .181 .223 .404

Gardner is too careful batting in front of Jeter IMHO. Too obsessed with pitch count.

Don't dis the next Yankee Captain.

Interesting.

But I can only see it happening if...if..he continues to have a few more good solid years while helping the Yanks to a couple of Championships. (2?)

Then I would say - "why not".

I realize the importance of working a pitch count, especially over the entire Hitting Roster, yet-with Gardner's 1st pitch very very impressive .401 Avg, as long as opposing Pitcher's are throwing 1st pitch strikes, I'd give Brett a green light most; if not all of the time, (albeit to a 1st pitch-strike Pitcher, eg, Gregg Maddux type)...

Funny thing about Maddux - his combined career numbers vs D.H./A.L. lineups are mediocre, at best.
I know I know, he was great.

...and most hitters don't have a .401 BA and a 1.057 OPS on the first pitch. The point was to show the contrast between the 2 counts, and why Gardner should not let so many good pitches go by early in the count.

...lolzzz.

:lol: I kinda have had that same feeling...!

Indeed, no doubt on this one...."if you see a wave jump on it; and ride it, or it may be awhile before you see another"...

...this is true, matts.

...it's just a shame that even rudimentary Baseball principals are lost on some.

Ah, I don't recall Mattingly getting any rings before his captaincy?
