The Abbey, West Hollywood Gay Bar, Bans Bachelorette Parties as Political Statement

[Update: Upon hearing the news, a good friend of ours asked if straight male bachelor parties are banned, as well. Great question! Brian Rosman, a publicist for The Abbey, says that although that "has never once happened," it would "probably fall under the same ban." Yes, he decides -- "any celebration of straight marriage" is banned from The Abbey. Glad we got that figured out.]
MTV has declared it "The Best Gay Bar in the World." Cranky neighbors (and the West Hollywood Sheriff's station) have declared it a royal pain in the arse.

Now, eternally max-capped WeHo gay bar The Abbey is making a statement of its own: Until marriage is an option for everyone everywhere, ignorant straight chicks in penis hats are exiled from the building.

This will be the first all-out ban on bachelorette parties in the Los Angeles area. But WeHo patriots might be surprised to learn that in Chicago's premiere gayborhood, bachelorette parties have been blacklisted for a few years now. Always one step ahead of us, that Boystown!

However, The Abbey is the clear winner for finest bachelorette-party-ban press release.

"Every Friday and Saturday night, we're flooded with requests from straight girls in penis hats who want to ogle our go-gos, dance with the gays and celebrate their pending nuptials. They are completely unaware that the people around them are legally prohibited from getting married," said David Cooley, Founder of The Abbey. "Over the past 22 years, The Abbey has been a place that accepts everyone, gay, straight, lesbian, transgender, bisexual and everything in between. We love our straight girlfriends and they are welcome here, just not for bachelorette parties."
It has long been a policy at The Abbey to deny admission to groups in costume, including Bachelorette regalia. Bachelorette parties had previously been allowed inside if they removed their costumes. The Abbey's 'bachelorette ban' comes on the heels of a ban on gay marriage in North Carolina and a number of other states across the South. The Abbey encourages other gay-owned and operated establishments to institute their own bans as a sign of solidarity until marriage is legal everywhere for everyone.

The Abbey. - PATRICK RANGE MCDONALD
Patrick Range McDonald The Abbey. (Easy for The Abbey to say -- that place gets so much business that turning away 10 bottomless drink pits in penis hats would only be a relief.)
Meanwhile, on the somewhat more hard-hitting end of the gay-rights movement, President Obama's gay-marriage endorsement has set into motion a shift of opinion within the black community: The majority of blacks now support marriage equality.

Sooo if a historically conservative minority can come around, it does seem the whining white chicks of West Hollywood might also keep their barfy Chip 'N' Dales circlejerks off the dance floors of the disenfranchised.

What do you think, girls? Offended that you can't flaunt your head penis and bridal sash in whomever's face you please anymore?

But hey, lets fine Christians for not allowing a gay couple to get married on their property :MARIS61:

The problem is, how the hell to you harm someone by banning them from a place they have not and would not set foot in the place?

This stuff has nothing to do with any equal protection. It's all about getting a tax credit.
Kingspeed calls himself "Wife" even though in the dictionary, a wife is the female partner in marriage. It about changing the meaning of a few word so they can get a tax credit or in some case just a thumb in the eye of a Christian.

What would be worth the price of admission would be watching one of them explain their motive in and ISIS hearing. Some how I think mission creep would change motive to keeping the head attached to body.

Throughout college lots of people went there in groups. I

I can't be fucking with no gay bars though, people say they are full of women with their guards down, but fuck it. Its like me wanting to chill in an all black bar or something.

I'm sure there are. I was in college, there were girls everywhere though. We always hit up Sharkeez, Miyagis and Dublins.

Sharkeez wasn't there, it was in the Beach Cities. There was something where Cabo Cantina is now. Forgot what though.

Used to have good fucking times, would go there like 2-3 times a week. Used to park at the Virgin Megastore and get the stamp! woo woo.

I think there's some pseudo hipster shit going on when straight people go to gay bars. They go there just so they can tell people they go there.

We're all hipsters.

I went there to have guys blow me in the bathroom, then take a chic home later

No really, I only went when my gay friends wanted to go out. It was like the tolerable place for me. I tried going to their banana hammock bars and just couldn't take it.

What's with the tax credit conspiracy? You've posted this in a couple of different threads now. Why do you care what someone labels them-self in their relationship?

Years ago I lived close to The Egyptian Room, a local lesbian bar that's no longer. I would go there often, sometimes by myself but usually with a lesbian housemate. Had a blast and got hit on more than once, but was in a long term relationship at the time. Nobody ever hits on me at a straight bar but at lesbian joints I'm all the rage. AlWays thought that was weird.

Sorry Sly but if you don't get it, I ain't going to type it again other than to say, this is about tearing down the institutions of our society and nothing to do with improving it. I find it as disingenuous as it gets. Other than that I would tell you if ask in person.

Oh by the way, I don't give a shit what they label themselves except when they usurp a words that already have a meaning in religion and the law.

So you're saying i should go to gay and lesbian bars to pick up chicks?

This is a much better Attack on an establishment after being refused service than the two woman and government on a religious person, that hires gays, respects them but just didn't want to wed them because of their religious views.

I think Los Angeles should sue "The Abby" for being like the KKK and their straightaphobic ban.
