Celtics forward Kevin Garnett and Lakers guard Kobe Bryant have been selected to the NBA all-defensive first team for a record-tying ninth time.

Garnett

Bryant
Garnett and Bryant were joined by Magic center Dwight Howard, who has won the past three Defensive Player of the Year awards and received the most points Monday.

Also selected for the first team were Heat forward LeBron James and Celtics guard Rajon Rondo.

Garnett and Bryant tied Michael Jordan and Gary Payton for the most selections in NBA history.

The league's coaches vote on the team.

The second team has Grizzlies guard Tony Allen, Hornets guard Chris Paul, Mavericks center Tyson Chandler, 76ers forward Andre Iguodala and Bulls forward-center Joakim Noah.

Bryant is probably the most overrated defensive player in NBA history. He's capable of good defense, but there's no way he's one of the several greatest defenders ever.

Seriously a joke that bryant would get named first team over Tony Allen or Andre Iguodola.

It really does baffle me that the coaches continually vote him on the All-Defensive team.

If they named a 3rd team, Wallace would be on it. Look at Wesley getting 2 first team votes as well!

Other players receiving votes, with point totals (First Team votes in parentheses): Derrick Rose, Chicago, 14 (4); Dwyane Wade, Miami, 13 (3); Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City, 13 (4); Gerald Wallace, Portland, 11 (1); Grant Hill, Phoenix 11 (4); Luol Deng, Chicago 11 (4); Tim Duncan, San Antonio, 11 (3); Chuck Hayes, Houston, 10 (2); Al Horford, Atlanta 7 (3); Josh Smith, Atlanta, 7 (1); Ron Artest, Los Angeles Lakers, 7 (1); Serge Ibaka, Oklahoma City, 6 (1); Shane Battier, Memphis 5 (2); Thabo Sefolosha, Oklahoma City, 5; Wesley Matthews, Portland 4 (2), Kendrick Perkins, Oklahoma City, 3; Nicolas Batum, Portland, 3; (1); Joe Johnson, Atlanta; 2 (1); Keith Bogans, Chicago 2 (1); Kyle Lowry, Houston, 2; Lamar Odom, Los Angeles Lakers, 2; Luc Mbah a Moute, Milwaukee, 2; Manu Ginobili, San Antonio, 2 (1); Andrew Bogut, Milwaukee, 1; Andrew Bynum, Los Angeles Lakers 1; Arron Afflalo, Denver, 1; Jrue Holiday, Philadelphia 1; Kirk Hinrich, Atlanta 1; Nene, Denver, 1; Ronnie Brewer, Chicago, 1; Shawn Marion, Dallas, 1; Tayshaun Prince, Detroit, 1.

Chuck Hayes not getting atleast 2nd team is a travesty in my book. He always held bigs under their average.

The fact that Rose and Westbrook are on there with quiet a few votes is a travisty. Both of them have constantly been lite up for there lack of defensive. Guess going for steals constantly with sacrificing your man to man defense gets you a good amount of votes.

Being a popular star gets you a lot of votes, often.

Strange that we have 3 perimeter players get votes for all-defensive teams, yet our team perimeter defense was pretty terrible. Is it a defensive scheme problem?

Who are these coaches and do they know anything about NBA basketball?

I'm guessing all these coaches are Laker homers.

I think the players should vote for the all-defensive team. What the hell do the coaches know?

This is fantastic news for us. That should mean his cap hit is lower next year

The All-Defensive team is habitually a joke. It's always "name" players. At least Rondo beat out Chris Paul this year, although that's probably because Rondo became a "name" player.

What should the REAL all-defense team look like? Tony Allen should almost certain be on the first team, but who else?

Should be Aaron Affalo, Tony Allen, Andre Igoudala, Josh Smith, Dwight Howard as first team imo.
