Get Eric Maynor

It will be interesting to see how he can recover from the ACL. It's obvious OKC thinks he's done, and I think more of Sam Presti than Neil Olshey.

OKC is also dealing with cap issues. It appears that their ownership desperately wants to avoid the luxury tax.

Presti is not infallible anymore. He got rid of the wrong player last summer. Of course owners are making it harder on him lately then in the past.

What did Presti do that was so good? Who was he supposed to pick when Durrant fell into his lap?

When I thought Presti was a god it wasn't about Durant. It was about finding gems like Serge Ibaka, and Reggie Jackson. He was an up-and-coming guy in SA which is where he first made his name.

Brian, quit being brainwashed by draft websites and watch games.

I wish I could.

As far as Maynor goes, I really like the pickup, but I didn't think his defense was goodin 2009 when I was watching games. It was a bit like watching Steph Curry at Davidson (not that Maynor was anywhere near the shooter), in terms of how he was the main focus of the other team but still scored and dished at will (maybe a bit like Dame at Weber St? I don't know). He was neither the stopper, nor asked to focus much on D. At no point did I think he was going to be a Justin Dentmon-type guy who could hang his hat on his D skills. He got "hands" steals, but one could say it was b/c he was playing ODU and Richmond PGs every night instead of Georgetown or UNC.

And it's not just me, and it's not just DraftExpress. It's you against most of the world on saying "his calling card is D." I don't think his mom even thinks he's good at D.

Mostly though, I’d like Maynor to improve his defensive abilities. By no means was he terrible as a defender, but his basketball IQ and quick hands should give opposing point guards (especially other reserves) fits and would give him the opportunity to run in transition and play with an open floor ahead of him, which he excels at.

Not the most dedicated defender on the court (lacks physicality and the loose hips to stay in front of the shooter on the perimeter), but is effective working in the passing lanes …
"Sometimes gambles too much on the defensive end, which hurts his teammates. Doesn't have elite athleticism."

One major concern about Eric Maynor, was his performance in the big games. Against Oklahoma and UCLA, he shot a combined 10-34. At times he looked good, but at other times over matched. Otherwise, he would be picked a lot higher in the draft. What will inevitably make him a career back up, is his lack of explosive athleticism.

Not a top level athlete ... Foot speed and explosiveness are not optimal ... Extremely light at 164 lbs, whether he can add weight is a big question mark ... Gives the appearance of being heavy footed, lacking burst on his first step...Can be lax on the defensive side of the ball - has a tendency to take plays off on defense if his offense isn't flowing
Average DRtg (I know it's not the end-all, but still...) is 109 for his career.

What would you pick if he fell into yours?

No, but damn he was close. One (Cap Friendly Rookie Contract) Damian Lillard for Russel Westbrook trade would allow them to re-sign their shooting guard, and I think we're talking dyNASTY.
