Girardi names rotation.....waiting on #5

Yeah, from what I've read, it looks like Warren, who Cashman said that he had the #5 job even before his last start which was also a good one. I guess they think Lindgren is either too young or maybe he's part of the pen?...regardless, he's looked like the real deal.

...whenever Capuano returns hopefully the Yanx starters will have pitched well enough to force them to keep Capuano in the BP for mop up duty in blowouts. Then there's also Nova supposedly coming back mid season...if we're lucky, real lucky, having too much pitching could turn out to be a good thing.

More worried about lack of offense. CC still worries me too.

I think Mitchell (23 yrs old) is the young farm hand who was in the mix for #5 along with Rogers but he's hasn't had a good ST.

Jacob Lindgren, 21 yr old LH was drafted strictly as a reliever and he continues to show the ability (AA/ST) to strikeout a ton of batters and not give up a lot of hits.
Last year AA, 11.1 IP, 6 H, 18 Ks but did walk a lot of batters.
So far ST - 6.1 IP, 4H, 2 BB, 9 Ks, 0.95 WHIP, 0.00 ERA.

He has only a few IP under his belt, and this one is on Girardi whether or not he makes the team/bullpen. He could be ready.

And we still don't know what we're going to get out of Eovoldi.

The more I watch CC pitch, the more I am
convinced he'll be out of the rotation sometime
during the year. Nowhere near the pitcher he
used to be. If he only could last until Nova returns.

Yep- but I still think if the usual suspects get their ABs this year, the team will be considerably better at scoring runs compared to last year's reg season, I think, I hope, lol

CC is a VERY wild card- he could be a difference maker or he could be.......yuk.
Have to be concerned with him, no doubt.

And we still don't know what we're going to get out of Eovoldi.

At the risk of sounding like a dope, I have a general idea of what we're going to get from Eovoldi but there's an "if" attached to it - if he gains good control and location with at least one of his off speed pitches, he'll do darn good for a 4th (or 3rd) starter.
He's definitely a project.

And IF a frog had wings he wouldn't break his ass every time he jumped.

Rick, no disrect or offense intended and this can also apply to others but comparisons between a frog growing wings and dozens and dozens of players needing work and further development in their skills to improve their production and performance kinda makes a mockery of the legitimate real life aspects of putting together and running a MLB team.
If you, (or I) want to just say Eovoldi (considering his age, ect) won't ever pan out or can't improve is a totally different matter than comparing the possibility of a young pitcher finding his game and reaching his peak to a frog growing wings.

On this one, I'm going to wait and watch at least THIS upcoming season to play out before I begin to bring "frogs growing wings" into the dscussion concerning Eovaldi at this point. lol

Just saying to date, 4 years & some 80 starts he's done NOTHING! to impress anyone.

I hear ya loud and clear.
He could become just another bust.

Yanks made the trade and believe he is still an incomplete young pitcher who has good stuff who can be helped (matures) into taking the next step to become a solid pitcher.
I know it's not popular, but I'm going to wait on this one to evaluate if the Yanks (Cashman) made a good or bad deal...at least for one year of Eovaldi in pinstripes.
We'll see how it goes.

Yanks did receive another young arm (who has pitched well in minors) in the deal along with a backup 1b/DH, and they did NOT include any prospects or a good young player.
They dealt Prado and Phelps......Phelps!
We've been through the Prado thing and the Yanks chose to "go another way".
And in all honesty, I think we should also wait and see how THAT turns out.

Anyway, I think the combination of getting another good young arm (German) AND of course Eovaldi was the main reason for making this trade. We'll see!
lol

You keep bringing this German kid up like he's the second coming of Mo Rivera. I still would have preferred to keep Prado & Greene.

^^^ I finally just gave up trying to explain things logically....and gave up responding to the hand picked stats that were provided to show only the positive slant on things.

...it's like trying to communicate with a dolphin.

You can't put so much stock into CCs bad spring and turn around and not give Eovaldi any hope after what we've seen. The kid looks good and if his game was still restricted to the minors, with no major experience, he'd be a highly regarded prospect. I expect him to be a very solid #4.

...actually, I believe you can, because there's a difference, bern.

...Eovaldi is only 25 and at least has possible upside and has been good this Spring and maybe the change of scenery will help him to be better than he was in Miami.
...CC on the other hand, is nearly 10 years older and has been in decline for awhile now...and so far this Spring he has been exactly what he's been for the last 2 years, which is terrible.

But that's my point. CC has been terrible. I put stoke in his spring and I also put stock in Eovaldi's spring. He's not some shot in the dark. The guy has eaten innings in the past and has some velocity. I think he'll be using more off speeds that might result in him getting hit less but becoming less economical.

You also have to remember though Bern that yes Eovoldi has looked good during ST but he's really not pitching to full ML squads yet either. But like Ron said I'm also hoping a change of scenery will agree with him.

Never even hinted at German being the second coming of Mo or any other star pitcher for that matter. I brought his name up when the trade was first made as he wasn't mentioned by a couple of media outlets when the deal was first reported.

I described him (post12) as a "good young arm".
He's 22 yrs old, has a 2.33 ERA, 1.15 WHIP in "A" starting as a 17 yr old.
Last year made 25 starts had a 2.48 ERA , 1.14 WHIP.
What would you call him, a "throw in", "a prospect"., no future?...okay whatever.

And I also liked what I saw from Greene last year and was wasn't thrilled to see him go but he went in the Gregorius acquisition and that is another matter.....it's done.
Has Greene become some kind of safe bet or gaurantee to become a top flight SP or at least better than Eovaldi will do as a Yankee? Okay, fine. Maybe, maybe not?
Speaking of Eovaldi and Greene----- Eovaldi is actually a yr younger.

I said (post 12) :

Maybe I should've just said having a change of scenery might help him. lol

NEWSFLASH! It was reported yesterday that the kid is having some arm trouble.

Note to the home crowd: Tanka spanked today by the God Damn Twinkies, 4+ innings, 7 hits, three runs, while the our gang comedy crew failed to muster enough stuff to keep it a game. Going to be a long, long , way to Tipperary Town for the faithful this season. No joy, no fun, nor a Season in the sun.

Okay, it's official, it's a bad trade!
And German couldn't be thought of, or described as (merely) a "good young arm" at the time of the trade.

Okay. Very well, my bad - BAD TRADE

Gee, you guys really are on the ball.

LOL

...^^^...small steps, small steps.

So I guess at the time CASHMAN made the trade which was before German's CURRENT arm trouble and looking at his age and minor league stats at that point (prior to his very recent arm trouble), he couldn't/shouldn't be called a "good young arm"?
Is that what this is about? lol

Nobody said he was going to be the second coming (rolling my eyes) AND, going forward it has yet to be determined who will be the better or worse pitcher- Eovaldi or Greene.

And before you get excited over trading Greene, he was "used" to acquire Gregorius and it's also too early to determine if THAT trade was a good or bad one.

That's all.

Let me try it this way, lol.

At the time Cashman made the trade which was before German's CURRENT arm trouble and looking at his age and minor league stats at THAT point- and before his very recent arm trouble, he couldn't/shouldn't be called a "good young arm"?

The KID needs arm surgery months after the Yanks acquired him and Cashman, and others shouldn't have considered him a "good young arm" included in a trade,
when the trade was made?

I just want a reality check?
Who's tripping out here?

And I NEVER said he was going to be the second coming.

I'm hoping like heck Eovaldi works out well, just to quiet down some of these raving, second guessers with a prejudiced anti- Cashman agenda.

Maybe it's time to also keep an eye on Teflon Joe Girardi?
Maybe just a teeny weeny more runners in motion to avoid DPs for starters?
Nah.....

GO YANKS!

Here's a tip going forward, to avoid repeating yourself over & over & over with the same old tired shit posts, read what you've typed BEFORE you hit the "POST REPLY" button.

...forget what I said about taking "small steps"... learn to crawl first.

...many people questioned the trade when it first happened...and I was one of them.

I know but if has nothing to do with my post (#10) of this thread regarding the possible reasoning behind the Eovaldi trade.
