OT Girls basketball team calls for action after they say racial slurs yelled at St. Helens game

I won a state title with Parkrose. Ironically, when I was there, there were maybe 10 kids in the entire school that were black.
Really changed out there in the past 15 years. All the change in the Mississippi and Alberta neighborhoods has forced a lot of families out. They have picked up and moved 100 blocks east.

We had one on one year and a max of about three during my four years at Lincoln. Still enjoy visiting with one, Harold, during my many high school reunions. Harold is one of the nicest guys I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.

Schools need to band together and refuse to play in St. Helens if their fans can't be respectful of the visiting kids.

Boom!

Good point Hobbs as there is no excuse for this kind of behavior and like I mentioned, my grandson a few years back made the same comment when they went there and played as he was in the same league with them.

I am fine with that but they need a self imposed ban to teach everyone a lesson. No way has this gone on undetected, most coaches I knew growing up would have forfeited the game before letting this continue.

I mean if they coached St. Helens. Maybe I'm giving them too much credit but I hope I'm not.

I've lived in Parkrose for the past 30 years. It really hasn't changed all that much. The district was very diverse in the early-mid 90's, and still is now.

We had run-ins when we had to travel to St. Helena for sporting events (this was 18-20 years ago). We maybe had two “minority” players on our teams at any given time.

They were so odd. We called them the St. Helens homies. Put our two index fingers together at an angle to simulate a mountain/triangle shape. They didn’t like it. They were so tough they made fun of how old our bus driver was. Then proceeded to follow our bus for five miles out of town.

Gotta consider the source. So weird places like this with people like that still exist...

I always hate to punish people for things they didn't do but in this case shutting down all team sports for the year would be fine with me.

If this has been happening for years then the administration needs to go too.

When one or two kids are fucking around in practice they all run for punishment.

That's Columbia county for you. Something in the water out there. A lot of strange people. I have family out there and have spent a lot of time.

My aunt and uncle used to live out there on a trimaran. My uncle was a hard core Republican and my aunt was a moderate Democrat. They moved to Cloverdale.

I'm still triggered by being called a Jesbian.
When I was in high-school and we played Jesuit we'd all show up with soap on a rope around our neck. This was back when it was an all boys school. We thought we were clever. It was kind of fun twirling the soap above our heads when we scored a TD though.

Above the doors to high schools should be the inscription:

"What you think is clever, isn't"

The Parkrose-St Helens issue continues. Apparently things have escalated from racism to threats.
