Give Lee More Time

I know Larry Brown is supposed to be considered one of the best coaches in the game right now, but some of his decisions really baffle me. I have don?t have the slightest idea why he doesn?t use David Lee that much. Yesterday he played Lee for 48 seconds when the Knicks were about to lose. The game in Orlando he only played him for 10 minutes, and the game against Sacramento he didn?t play him at all. David Lee is our best rebounder, hustler, and the best well-rounded player overall. He?s averaging 4.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game and shooting 57% from the field. That?s pretty good for a rookie averaging only 17.4 minutes a game. Also, a lot of what he does doesn?t appear on the stat sheet: diving for lose balls, giving the team energy etc. Larry Brown should know this first hand watching him in practice everyday. Why does he insist on playing less productive players?Malik Rose and Quentin Richardson?play over him? Don?t say because they?re veterans; if you can play, age shouldn?t matter. I just don?t understand it. When Lee is on the floor the Knicks play so much better, so why would they take him out? I just don?t understand it.

agree with you, david lee love to hustle, and he chase after a rebound, him and channing frye should both get more minutes... who knows what larry brown is thinking, probably because malik and q-rich play better D? walt frazier and al trautwig said that Q played good d forcing lebron shooting the jump shot instead of driving to the basket

Richardson has done a better job defending this year, but he's been awful on offense. He's had some issues with his calf, his back, and off court issues like his brother, but the fact of the matter is we need Richardson to step up. It's not like we can trade him either. He's giving us bad production, a bad contract, and a bad back. I think we'll have to wait for next year for him to bounce back from this season and increase his trade value. We would be lucky to get a second round pick from him.

i admit larry has been a successful coach, but he constantly changes his line ups and claim he goes for the "hot hand" OR the "most effective match up"
i don't totally agree with him though, i think that if they change line ups all the time (especially in the SF, SG) position, players, especially the new guys, will never get used to the system and excel

David Lee should start at SF because of his hustle play or maybe even PF for mismatches somtimes, nate and jamal should rotate/share roughly same minutes, depending on who's feeling it that night can give the hot hand slightly more playing time

Larry brown doesn't give rookies the time they deserve to get somehow, and that really annoys me

oh well, he's the coach, nothing you can do about it

yea when LB dont give rookies the playing times they deserve really bothers me too, but maybe next season when lee nate and frye are sophomores they will get way more minutes, its just not the knicks, see delonte west, sebastian telfair, and kevin martin all gotten more minutes this year and all of them are doing better

So what is Larry Brown supposed to do? There are only so many minutes to go around. Isiah wanted to turn Lee into a small forward-despite the fact that there were true small forwards left on the draft board like Ersan Ilyasova and Mikael Gelabale- and Lee is a below average small forward. He cant play center and were already stacked at power forward. Taylor has been our most reliable scoring reference in the paint, Frye is a great pick and pop player and Davis gives the team defense and experience. I want him to get more minutes too but there really isnt a spot for him in the rotation. That's the reality of the situation. It's not Brown's fault he cant give all of his power forwards minutes. The blame rests squarely on Isiah's shoulders.


Anyway I think Isiah Thomas should be fired.

If Lee got time before, he can get time now. Brown just prefers playing everyone else over him despite the fact they aren't as effective.

So Larry Brown is purposefully playing the less effective guys because their less effective? Is that why he's a Hall of Fame coach? By the way the other guys got time before as well so they can get time now too. Like I said Isiah Thomas wanted to convert Lee into a small forward, the conversion didnt happen the way he hoped and Lee is just another power foward in the logjam. But since you're a Hall of Fame coach with championships in the NBA and NCAA who do you think should see their minutes cut for David Lee?


Anyway I think Isiah Thomas should be fired.

I think Brown should do whatever it takes to make playoffs, because of the current situation regarding their draft picks and Chicago. Whether it means playing Lee or not.

Antonio Davis' suspension should have meant more time for Lee. Also, why is it that he isn't starting? Instead, Malik Rose is starting. Explain that one. There's no reason why Lee shouldn't be out there on the court.
