A company I work with just handed out 800 backpacks full of school supplies to the students of Scott School in NE Portland last Friday.

We spent hours packing the backpacks, and it was awesome to hand out the gear to kids who really need them last Friday afternoon. If anybody has ever been to Scott School, their principal is awesome, and she understands that charity is earned, and not a right.

Another great experience. chrisinpdx, what did you do last week to help out underprivileged kids? I ask because you like to run your mouth at me, yet the only thing I know about you is that you were privileged enough to be on a "Blazer Season Ticket Fan Board" at one point. :devilwink:

can't you just leave a solid post about a good deed as just that, instead of injecting your fucking squabbles into everything. Otherwise, fuck SlyPokerDog, do charity for the charity of it, don't run to share with everyone in a look at me, I do good deeds sort of shit. Just accept that you did something good and move the fuck on. SlyPokerDog is a Douche.

Isn't the whiny guy the one who inserts himself into beefs that have literally nothing to do with him?

You all need to chill....... props to you PG for giving back to the community and kids. We should all do more of that!

So your company forced you to spend one hour pretending to be an altruist, probably on paid time. I'm proud of you, suffering, not using that paid time to post on this board.

Quick, turn on Fox News right now. They're interviewing John Stossel about politics.

Isn't one of the points of charity to NOT brag about it?

Just comes across as someone who doesn't understand the reason, or just doesn't get it.

I'm sure all of us do honorable things (be it volunteering, donating of goods/money etc) but talking about it or using it in a petty childish rant (to prove you're a better person than someone else) is just pathetic.

And no, MM talking about he he and his wife were fostering/taking in those children isnt the same.

LOOK AT ME I DID SOMETHING GOOD FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER LET ME USE IT TO RUB IT IN THE FACE OF SOME INTERNET IDIOT I SURE AM GLAD THOSE CHILDREN WERE NEEDY OTHERWISE MY WORK MANDATED "CHARITY" WOULDNT HAVE GIVEN ME THIS CHOICE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE ONE OF MY MANY PETTY SQUABBLES I HAVE ON THE INTERNET

PAPAG! He only does good deeds to brag about it on the internet. What a saint!

a few companies i work for give millions to charity, and fuck that barfo guy

Barfo has sex with a few companies?! like the whole staff takes turns? GEEZ! And I thought HCP got around.

The Supreme Court gave corporations the right to be me. They can now fuck you over, the same way T. Boone Pickens does.

So now we know exactly what a "consultant" does.

The principal of that school, which is among the worst-performing 15% in the state, is taking a lot of heat for what parents see as reverse-discrimination. Her response of accusing anyone who is white as being privileged doesn't help any.

I thought the point of charity was to help out those less-fortunate than yourself. I've never "bragged" about charity before on this board. This thread was directed solely at the biggest shit-talker on this board, and how little he does to help out the very people he accuses me of hating.

I'll have to reconsider that, and note that this weekend's charitable project is solely being done so I can't brag about it.

Thanks for the lesson, julius. You're fucking brilliant.

Congratulations! You bragged again! You're not very good at this thing, huh?

I'd invite anyone with a specific area of expertise to volunteer to guest speak at a class.

I'm curious how you know "how little" he does to help people? Stalking him?

I'll go against the stream, here.

Thanks, PapaG, for not only putting your time and money where your mouth is but for making people aware of opportunities. Our church did something similar in West Seattle, and a large part of the success we had the second time around was in talking to people about how excited the kids were about having new supplies and the thanks we got from teachers for setting the kids up for a little more success. Many of the donors expressed surprise that something was going on like that, and were happy to help where they wouldn't have known about it before.

Thank you as well for what you and your church to in your city.

The start-to-finish structure of the PPS corporate backpack program is incredibly fast. Buy the supplies on a weekend, fill the backpacks one evening, and then distribute them within a week. The private sector, along with support from the school districts, can be very efficient when there is a good plan and support on both sides, and no bureaucrats to muck things up.
