Glenn Beck, wacky morning man

Reverend King may not agree with you, though.

You mean this Reverend King:
A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.

Or this one:
Discrimination is a hellhound that gnaws at Negroes in every waking moment of their lives to remind them that the lie of their inferiority is accepted as truth in the society dominating them.
(ooh, I think Glenn would find that a bit racist)

Or this one:
If physical death is the price that I must pay to free my white brothers and sisters from a permanent death of the spirit, then nothing can be more redemptive.
(there he goes again!)

Or how about this:
It is incontestable and deplorable that Negroes have committed crimes; but they are derivative crimes. They are born of the greater crimes of the white society.

Or this:
One of the greatest casualties of the war in Vietnam is the Great Society... shot down on the battlefield of Vietnam.
(I think Glenn, if he actually knows what the Great Society was, would be very happy about this)

No. Reverend Martin Luther King would see Beck for the phony blowhard that he is. But being a Christian man, I'm sure he'd forgive him his death of the spirit.

How many people in this picture? The mall is 1/2 mile long, or about 8x as long as that football stadium.

It's tough but I'd have to say close to 42.

Incidentally: what is American Honor, what happened to it, and how is it going to be restored, thanks to those moral and intellectual giants Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin? Does it involve shooting things from helicopters?

you didn't read the transcript or the books, did you?

Honor cannot be restored.

You either got it or you don't.

Beck and Palin don't even know the meaning of the word.

I see Beck as like a lot of TV evangelists. I just don't believe anything he says. They both seem to use religion as a means to and end.

I try not to get one sided on any political stance, or rail too much on one political talking head - but after hearing portions of Beck's speech, I'm now convinced this dude is straight bat shit crazy. But he's entertaining in a circus freak show kind of way. He's fun to watch!

Don't you feel scared that people worship him? He's a fucking moron.

Yeah, a little. But no more scared of these people than the loud crazies that emerged during Bush's tenure. They're all the same to me. The loud minority. It's a lot like the dynamic on this here forum!

All the booze and cocaine this guy did in his younger years really fucked with his head. Now he's just a crazy mormon.

It will be interesting to see how many people are going to it, but isn't there already a rally scheduled on the 30th of that month, and they're piggy-backing on it? I thought Ed Schultz was doing something that date too.

if it does draw well, Beck etc will just say it was because of Stewart and Colbert, and not because people were being serious. If it doesn't draw well, it'll prove that their rally was more serious (despite not being promoted nearly as much or having a huge network promoting it off and on for a few months)

I don't think it will draw well at all. People attended the Beck rally... well... for a lot of reasons I suppose... anti Obama, anti big government, pro religion, Glen Beck is God... whatever, and they felt their voice wasn't being heard enough so they had to assemble and shout it. Good for them... but having a loud voice doesn't make you right. Even if you like Stewart and Colbert... there just isn't as much incentive for people to attend.

I see Beck Limbaugh etc... as modern TV evangelists. They are making their money differently... but in my book they are the same kind of charismatic wackos. Even if you hate them you can't help but be taken in by their act. Sometimes I have to slap myself for listening to the Shamwow guy for 3 seconds... but there is a certain curiosity, like watching a circus freak or something. I have no interest in money management shows... but the Mad Money guy is interesting to watch in the same way.
