Portland Trail Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard was scheduled to meet Sunday with Mark Warkentien, Denver Nuggets vice president of basketball operations, sources (Brandon Roy?) have informed The Columbian.

The meeting was canceled, however, when one of the parties backed out due to personal reasons.

The convergence is expected to be rescheduled.

Pritchard and Warkentien, key front-office executives of rival teams in the NBA’s Northwest Division, were reportedly set to discuss topics including the 2010 NBA Draft and trade-related possibilities.

Pritchard has not been made available to the media since June 1. Blazers president Larry Miller said Tuesday that Pritchard is currently in New York, scouting for the draft.

An attempt to reach Warkentien through his agent, Steve Kauffman, has thus far been unsuccessful.

Kauffman said late Monday that Pritchard and Warkentien are “friends.”

“Heard they were just getting a bite to eat,” Kauffman said in a text message. “That’s all.”

News about Pritchard meeting with an unnamed NBA executive was originally reported Sunday evening by Oregonian columnist John Canzano.

The scheduled get together between Pritchard and Warkentien was set for one day after after a Yahoo! Sports report was published asserting that the Blazers had hired a search firm to find a possible replacement for Pritchard......................

Warkentien: "Wait a minute, I hate and deeply resent him..."

Co-GM's?
KP reverts to draft and scouting management and Warkentien takes the GM reins?
Sword fight to determine who gets the job?

This thing couldn't get much weirder.

In their minds, they both feel that they've been screwed by Vulcans.

It's a coin toss to see who gets to put the flaming bag of poo on PA's porch.

Wow, GMs getting together to talk prior to the draft and free agency period. That never happens.

barfo

I was home sick yesterday so I watched a rerun of Star Trek: Next Generation where Captain Picard has to arbitrate who will be the next Klingon ruler. Maybe Paul Allen, a Star Trek fan, can bring in Picard to settle the matter?

My sources (which are the voices in my head) tell me this means we are going to trade for Carmello Anthony on draft day.

That was some good Trek.

I hope we riot

GM Summit meeting??

That sounds like something where they should be organizing to pass some resolutions and security sanctions against LA and Boston.:devilwink:

Not that there is anything wrong with that...

After the sweetheart deals both teams made to put them into elite status, I think that's appropriate.

Or Allen told Pritchard to give some training to his successor before passing the torch?

How much training does it take to tell a replacement to attach 3 million dollars of cash to every deal? 'Cause that's all KP has ever done right?
