have not even seen much mention of Dame's health concerns and is this ab injury chronic? we are talking about an ageing ONE way player, for me I lean to trading him and gettin on with a rebuild
Fischer said Dame consulted with specialists this summer and even contemplated surgery. Having him sit for a year and reset next season with a new squad is an interesting idea. Most star players have one major year off for injury. Steph with his wrist/PG with his legs/Lebron with his ankle/Klay with ACL + Achilles/ Kawhi with his ACL and knee/ etc etc. If Dame is on-board, it's a risk worth considering.

Ainge is the only one that has the experience to deal with the pile of shit Neil left behind.
ugh.

what experience did KP have in turning around the dumpster fire in 06?

I'd rather hire someone who other GMs can work with, not ignore calls. I'd also like someone that players don't explicitly mention that they want to avoid in free agency.

Also don't want an openly MAGA dude who is completely out of touch with the current NBA landscape, but that one is just for me.

Like trade CJ + Nurk for picks and put Dame on the shelf for the season to re-group next year? I have no idea what the draft is like next season, but that kinda move requires a lot of patience from Dame. the super duper max is an incentive perhaps, but it's also quite risky unless you're sure about prospects. even the Phoenix model was serendipitous. They fell ass backwards into Mikal Bridges, and the Ayton pick was actually a mistake.

Like trade CJ, Nurk and RoCo, bottom out this year, and come back next year with Dame + Picks + Little/Ant and Nance. Maybe trade Norm as well, but on a 5 year deal it's not critical you make that decision now.

Falling into a Booker/Ayton would be difficult, but I think with what you get out of CJ/Nurk/RoCo/Your own picks you could at least come into one of those players. Or something close to it, either through draft or trade. Little is not far off from where Mikal Bridges was as a 22 year old rookie (Little is still 21, younger than Bridges as a rookie!).

Yeah, it's far-fetched, but Chris Paul joined that Suns team at age 35. Imagine how much Booker/Ayton/Bridges development would have been fast tracked had they had Chris Paul at 31 guiding them through the bulk of their early career. All I'm saying is that if this is a path Lillard would entertain, it's something I would really consider, because that makes much more sense then trotting out this lifeless group of veterans. At the end of the day everyone else can go, but I don't want to lose Dame.

I would not have a problem with Cronin. No proven, good GM is coming here for this shit show. Go with Cronin. I guarantee he’s been biting his tongue for years or getting shot down left and right by Neil. He’s probably itching to prove himself.

Whomever it is going to be, they need to get busy in a hurry and determine what they want to do and if they can do it. They have a week to prep until the gates open up to a much greater extent.

this was Olshey's ideal staff:

First Interview Question: At any point in the past 9 years did you feel coaching was the primary issue preventing this team from being a championship contender?

Anyone who answers "yes" is automatically dismissed from the interview.

What should the second question be?

A couple of those against the Blazers. And so many times, he is guarding one of the other teams best offensive players. Would be so nice to have.

I feel like Morey would take a lesser player than CJ just out of spite.

Who is Allison Feaster?

The Blazers recently let go of their top basketball executive, Neil Olshey, promoting Joe Cronin in the interim. While Cronin will run the team until an official hire, it's unclear if that hire will happen before the trade deadline. Sources indicate he'll have an opportunity to keep the position long-term, but Chicago Bulls general manager Marc Eversley, G League president Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Boston Celtics vice president of player and organization development Allison Feaster are the front-runners.

Cronin sitting on his thumbs certainly isn’t helping his case.

Go for experience — Eversley

Allison Feaster seems like she’s highly respected, definitely an interesting candidate.

I don't need the GM learning on the job as well. Want someone with more than 2 yrs experience in an NBA FO.

https://hoopshype.com/lists/myles-turner-injury-jerami-grant-trade-talks-joe-cronin-future/Scotto:

Some rival executives around the league believe Joe Cronin has a chance to keep the job as general manager in Portland after hiring Andrae Patterson away from the Cavaliers. Patterson received a promotion to become an assistant GM by going to Portland. You’d have to believe Patterson felt confident in Cronin’s chances of keeping the job as well to leave Cleveland where Koby Altman was just promoted and given an extension, so other promotions in Cleveland could potentially follow as well.

The other thing executives are keeping an eye on is how Cronin’s moves will affect Damian Lillard. One executive told me, “Portland only has a few more good years left with Lillard at a high level. Their best bet to turn it around is to get a high lottery pick and trade the pick.”

Another executive brought up an interesting point. He said, “If you trade CJ McCollum for young players and picks, how would Lillard take that?”

Depends if those young players are developmental projects or if they can help now/next year.

And Cronin should not be GM, but I’m afraid he is.

Joe has fired two of his front office staff and hired an assistant from outside...that's not sitting on your thumbs...that's knowing the job is yours....he probably had a lot to do with Dame's surgery decision and he's the guy that has Chauncey's back....I don't see them looking any further and for people who think he's inexperienced, he's been working in the front office for 15 years...he's worked for several Blazer GMs and is really close to Buchanon in Indy which is why we're tied to trade rumors there....I think everything is going to plan and Joe let Ant and Nurk and Roco build a ton of trade value before the deadline...that's what you'd want as a GM for expirings or guys you'll have to pay in the off season. If Joe had traded Nurk, Roco and Ant the day he took over he'd have gotten pennies on the dollar...now he's got some value to bargain with. Joe's probably the reason Norm and Larry are in no hurry to return either....I'd say he's a busy guy but it takes teams wanting what you're selling or having what you want to buy.
