Go Broncos!!

I just watched the play again. Why did they blitz so many guys? Tebow doesn't turn the ball over much so the most they could have gained was a 5 or 6 yard sack, which would have still been within FG range (I think). Obviously we saw what they stood to lose on the play.

The blitz was fine, the safety coming from the outside simply screwed up his assignment and didn't stay outside and keep contain. He went inside also, giving Tebow a wide open sideline once he looped outside the safety.

As for Tebow himself...he's a gifted athlete, not much of a quarterback but a hell of an entertaining "phenomenon." I'm endlessly amused by the way the Broncos are trying to move the ball and win games. I personally don't believe these college-style gimmicks are sustainable long-term any more than the Wildcat was, but it's fascinating to watch NFL defenses deal with it for now. For Tebow to be a successful NFL quarterback in the long term, he's going to have to learn to set his feet and make good reads and accurate throws.

That said, despite the excitement generated by "Tebow magic" (his penchant for making plays in the final minutes after not producing many points throughout the game until then), the Broncos are winning with defense by and large. In this latest win, their offense accounted for 10 points...their defense scored 7 points and allowed only 13. The Broncos' offense did carve up the Raiders and Chiefs in the running game, though, and that's partly attributable to Tebow.

Jake Plummer lets people know how he feels about Tebow. He doesn't hold back:

And then, Plummer dropped the bomb. "Tebow, regardless of whether I wish he'd just shut up after a game and go hug his teammates, I think he's a winner and I respect that about him. I think that when he accepts the fact that we know that he loves Jesus Christ then I think I'll like him a little better. I don't hate him because of that, I just would rather not have to hear that every single time he takes a good snap or makes a good handoff…like you know, I understand, dude, where you're coming from ... but he is a baller. He knows how to win and when your teammates believe in you that you can do good things and that's what they are doing. They are winning. That's fun to see."

Have to say, I kind of agree with him.

Does Tebow actually get in his teammate's faces with his beliefs, though? I thought he simply knelt and prayed a relatively solitude prayer following games?

His interviews are kind of obnoxious. He'll be asked a football related question and he'll go off on a tangent about how his faith helps him. I've seen a lot of ex- football guy that are talking with him just kind of roll their eyes.

After Deion Sanders was born-again it took him awhile to realize that people don't need to hear about it 24/7.

I agree. Wasn't aware of the Tebow interviews.

Inside, Tim Tebow is PRAISING JESUS!!

Although, it's, at least, a "curious" report.....

The Denver Broncos cut quarterback Kyle Orton(notes) on Tuesday, a move which solidifies Tim Tebow's(notes) status as the team's starter and opens up the possibility of an Orton return to Chicago, where he could possibly fill-in for an injured Jay Cutler(notes).
ESPN's Adam Schefter was first to report the news.
Orton played the first five games of the season for Denver before he was replaced by Tebow at halftime in Week 5. The seventh-year veteran was 1-3 on the year, throwing for eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. He was traded to the Broncos in 2009 as part of the Jay Cutler mega-trade with Chicago and is owed $2.5 million for the remainder of this season. Any team that puts a waiver claim on Orton will owe him that salary.

Which team will it be? Chicago seems like a natural fit; Orton played his first four seasons in the Windy City and helped lead the team to a playoff berth in his rookie season. Other playoff contenders with injured starters, like the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs, could also be in play. Or perhaps Mike Shanahan will try to make Orton his next ex-quarterback in Washington.

Getting rid of Orton suggests Denver is content to ride out the season with Tim Tebow. Or if he falters like his coach and general manager seem to hope, the Broncos will try out Brady Quinn(notes) as the starter.

I love it!

I think this success shows how rigid and inflexible football coaches are. They want to stick to a very similar formula of recent successful teams. They want to follow the same long time strategies because "thats how we've always done it".

The Broncos are playing a conservative ball control offense that doens't take chances, doesn't turn the ball over, but does burn a ton of time from the clock. Their defense stays fresh. The opposing run defense wears down by the end of the game.

Analysts say great passing teams like the Patriots that struggle to run the ball can be elite. Why can't a great running team that struggles to pass have success?

Long term I dunno, maybe this game plan won't work. Or maybe Tebow becomes a slightly below average passer, and along with his elite running ability he continues to win. Either way, right now following the Broncos is great football entertainment.

Tebow is easy to root for. He is a good guy who does good things with his money. He is humble, and appears to be a winner with his "it" factor. As a Raidres fan I loathe the Mules, so I guess the best way to compliment him is by saying I would love Tebow on the Raiders. I hope he has continued success and learns to throw the ball adequately

The wittle wascal won (from behind) wonce again.

10-15 today with 2 drops and one where the receiver didn't get his 2nd foot down. Was this close to a 13-15 with about 260 yds and 3TDs

If Tebow can become a slightly better than average, or even average thrower, he has a chance to be pretty damn good. He is a total winner. His team needs to let him throw a bit more than they do

I was in the airport watching, and got on the plane with the Broncos down 10-0, 6 minutes or so left, and just having fumbled the ball. Up until that point he was 3-17, 48 or so yards, 1 pick.

I turn off of "airport mode" upon landing 2hrs later to see he's gone 18-23 for 200 yards and a TD while I was flying, and they scored 10pts in 2 minutes on Chicago.

I LOL'd on the plane

Anyone who watches football knows Tebow will not last. This is just one of those crazy runs that happens in sports. Guy might be a winner but eventually 3-16 through 3 qtrs catches u.

You could also say that "eventually 18-23, or a season-long 110 rating in the 4th and overtime means he'll go to the Hall of Fame."

Choosing outliers to make definitive statements doesn't seem to be a sustainable way for you to go through life while being correct some of the time.

As far as the football side of it goes, having the best running game in the league, limiting turnovers and having a stout defense has made more than a few teams Super Bowl Champions. For whatever you want to say about the kid, he's not limiting the team's ability to win games (like, say, Kyle Orton, Rex Grossman, Christian Ponder, etc. are).

If I was going to Vegas anytime in the near future, I would place the $100 I would've paid Mags on DEN to win the Super Bowl at 55-1.

I'm tired of all the Tebow talk. I want to vomit when I hear his name. I hope the Bronco's lose the rest of their games and Tebow plays horrible. :)

That's OK--Tebow loves you anyway.

I'm afraid it's gonna all end next week against the Pats, though.

Every semi-knowledgable fan of the NFL who's seen a game in the last 15 years thinks it's gonna end against the Pats. Including me.

You couldn't give me enough odds to wager against it, though. The Pats just lost last year in the playoffs to a power running team that made a couple of plays through the air and played stout defense. I don't think that DEN 2011 is NYJ 2010, but I think that Brady's going to be hurting way more after this game than Tebow is. I don't think that New England has anybody that actually likes to tackle, which tells me that you might see Tebow and McGahee run 50x this game. I don't know that DEN's defense can hold Brady down, but we saw last week in MIN that against a crappy defense Tebow can throw to the open guy.

I'm reminded of the Matrix, though.

If the Broncos win this next game, then I'll know there is a God. :)

They have a chance against New England, but they would get steamrolled by Green Bay.

Curiously, if by some chance the Broncos do win, they play KC and BUF to end the season, which seems like an awfully good chance to run the table. That'd put them at 11-5 with the tiebreaker over NE (who'd be one game up on them, but also playing BUF and MIA), but NE'll probably end up 12-4 even if they lose to DEN.

PIT has SF, STL and CLE. They should be able to rest up, but if they don't beat SF this weekend, they can't sit back and rest.

BAL has SD, CLE, and CIN.

It looks like, best-case for the Broncos fans, that they'll be 11-5 and the other teams in the AFC will be 12-4.
