Decisions you make have consequences. Voting for Trump or speaking in favor of him has lasting consequences for people.

I really never feel compelled to vote. I'll do it here and there, I can practically roll out of bed and walk to my polling location in 2 minutes so it's simple.

To me, I think its a relative waste of time. I don't feel a rush of patriotic duty when I vote. Most of my positions are self centered. If it doesn't affect me, don't care. If it does affect me, I'll only support positions that personally benefit me in the short term. Everything changes all the time. Everything is fucked. Politicians suck. All of them.

I do more laughing at modern society than anything. Its a cynical world view, but i don't care.

Not cool.

A bunch of us from the old ESPN Blazers forum also got sucked into the BasketballBoards.net looney house, but for the life of me I can’t remember why.
ESPN changed its forum format and it was awful so we all went looking for someplace... before ESPN, I was on the Blazers List Talk mailing list (I remember EdO was on there too); this was back in college

Oh, good. I'll take my time, then.

Better late than never! I mean, I get it, though--realizing the level of your own ignorance is a tough pill to swallow. Take your time, Lil Fella!

I was on BLT for a short time. I actually don't remember Ed O from that-- the two people I recall most were Laurel T (I'll just abbreviate her last name for anonymity) and Tula. I was in university too at the time.

BTW, I just realized I may be the longest standing member in here! Can anyone beat Sept. 12, 2008?
I'm very close, September

Must be nice to be as privileged as you. Not ashamed that our President retweets a video that has a man saying "White Power!"? Not ashamed that our President was told over a year ago that the Russians were paying bounties to the Taliban to kill AMERICAN SOLDIERS and did nothing about it? Denies he ever knew? Probably not reading shit and doing his job? He's handled the Coronavirus so well that Europe is banning us from traveling there. You voted for that asshole and you should be very ashamed. Shame on you. Shame on you.
Oh, God. This board is endlessly entertaining.

Sounds like you’re in favor of a Nazi state where people get punished for having a different political opinion. That’s very progressive of you.

Nope. You have every right to be proud of your country. Ignore the haters and the idiots who don’t know how lucky they are to live here.

As opposed to a country where the govt tear gasses it's citizens so the president can have a photo op at a church? Yeah right.....I was born in this country, served this country and watched assholes run it into the ground in the name of greed and white privilege....the haters are in power currently if you want to talk hate....you know who else toppled statues? The Patriots that kicked out King George....get woke and get off your high horse buddy..you're clearly on the wrong side of history. If you find that entertaining....you really don't give a shit. Good luck with that

4th of July...why celebrate the end of the revolutionary war with more explosions and gun powder?....seems music or even a moment of silence would be more fitting....last thing a soldier wants to do is shoot a gun when the war is over....never understood that tradition....not a fireworks fan at all ….have a parade, bbq, anything but shooting off gunpowder...it's like....let's torture all the dogs in the country for a day!

On that note, I just watched a documentary on Waco. What a tragedy that was. Janet Reno (and/or underlings) should've been indited. Even Bill Clinton missed it.

Because John Adams wanted us to. Before the Declaration of Independence was even signed, he envisioned fireworks as a part of the festivities. In a letter to Abigail Adams on July 3, 1776, he wrote that the occasion should be commemorated “with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.” The first commemorative Independence Day fireworks were set off on July 4, 1777. The Pennsylvania Evening Post wrote that in Philadelphia, “The evening was closed with the ring of bells, and at night there was a grand exhibition of fireworks (which began and concluded with thirteen rockets) on the Commons, and the city was beautifully illuminated.” The paper noted that “Everything was conducted with the greatest order and decorum, and the face of joy and gladness was universal.” That same year, fireworks also lit up the sky in Boston, where they were exhibited by Col. Thomas Crafts over the common. By 1783 a large variety of fireworks were available to the public. In 1784 one merchant offered a range of pyrotechnics that included “rockets, serpents, wheels, table rockets, cherry trees, fountains, and sun flowers.”

Well I disagree with the tradition..I know they wrote epic songs about it and most love it....the Chinese love to set off fireworks whenever anyone gets married, opens a business, has a baby, etc....sometimes the air always smells like sulfur...it's annoying as hell if you live around it....the fireworks tradition here I'd rather see replaced with music..food and general celebration

It wouldn't bother me if they stopped. We live directly under a huge show and every year I tell my wife think of the money they are shooting into the sky. I do get concerned with fires too.
My neighborhood has a fireworks ploicy and they hand out $1000 fines for illegal fireworks. Another way for government to justify someone job or division.

I too fear for fires. Of course, I'm old and not young.

You have no idea how ignorant this statement is. Lest you forget all the systemic oppression that doesnt allow people basic human rights.

I'll feel lucky to be here when this country starts to treat all of its citizens like human beings. Until then, there will always be work to do to make this a country to be proud of. Cause right now it sure as hell isnt.

And that is MY right. So if you give him that right then you give me this right.

There isn’t any systemic racism in this country. There isn’t any denial of human rights. That’s the big lie that Black Lives Matter is propagating. That’s the big lie that the media is advancing to keep the country divided. We have more laws against prejudice and racism than any country on earth. We’ve passed scores of affirmative action programs and anti-poverty programs. We’ve established Enterprise Zones in our cities to promote businesses and investment. We even have laws that establish financial support for single black mothers who are raising kids alone. The black middle class has been growing for years partly due to some of these laws, and we now have more black-owned businesses and black millionaires than at any time in our history. There are more opportunities for blacks in America than any other country, which is why blacks keep coming here from all over the world.

This idea that police forces around the country are out to get blacks is absurd. In 2019 there were a grand total of nine killings of unarmed black men around the country, and 19 instances of cops killing unarmed white men. In most of those nine killings of black men, the cop was in danger for his life. Look it up. It’s all a matter of public record. The ridiculous neck hold that Chauvin was applying to Floyd has been used on other races of criminals with the same disastrous results. It not just something these bad cops do to black men. They do it to everybody—black, white, asian, hispanic, you name it. It’s bad policing, but it’s not racist.

In a great irony, the number of people killed due to the riots exceeds the number of black men killed by bad cops last year. And the property damage done by the rioters in urban areas across the country, including the destruction of a new low-income housing building in Minneapolis (you can’t make this stuff up) is much worse than anything supposedly inflicted on the black community by white Americans.
