Due to circumstances beyond my control, didn't end up getting to go with the wife, so I'm using the ticket I have and am going in January. Using points for the (Equus) hotel in Honolulu. At this point, not renting a car. Just taking a shuttle from the airport to the hotel. Plan on renting a moped whenever I need to get out of town.

Upon looking at a numper of entertainment options, I'm pretty set on doing these activities:

Catamaran:

Going solo?

Its kind sucks you can't stay in Waikiki, its so much easier to do everything if you're there. Lots of walking, etc.

You can get a shuttle to Haunama Bay. There are a bunch of vendors in waikiki offering pickup, its pretty inexpensive actually.

I enjoyed the booze cruise in front of Duke's. $25, all you can drink and then 2 hours or so on the catamaran. Food at Dukes actually sucks pretty bad, but the drinking and music is why to go, especially on a Sunday afternoon.

Kayaking at Kailua is pretty awesome.

My favorite places to eat are the Rainbow Drive-In and Side Street Inn. There's a side street inn near ala moana, kind of a bar ish setting..great food but best for sharing.

See if you can get a brunch rez at the Orchids at the Halekulani. They book way in advance.

Yep, solo.

The hotel is located on Ala Moana right next to the Ala Moana Beach Park. How close is that to Waikiki?

Maybe a 10-15 minute walk to the main part of everything? It just sucks to have to do that every day. I just like the hustle and bustle of waikiki and going in and out.

Cabs are pretty easy though and they probably have a trolley pickup pretty close.

ABM,

Treat yourself to a hot escort or something. You deserve it.

yeah, tons of hookers in waikiki. pretty hot too of all varieties, they go there for the japanese tourists I think. mainly on Kuhio...but they go on the corner across from the Moana Surfrider starting at 930 or 10pm until the late night/early morning!*

Get it ABM! :ohno:

*or so I've herrrd.

Or, to save money, hit the bars at 1AM and find some skank. Granted, you have a better chance of getting clap, but that's what penicillin is for.

Don't get me started, dude. ;)

I'm really looking forward to the glider. Just the wind whispering by while I snap away with the telephoto..................

20 minutes for 115 bucks. Rather steep. Hope the shots/experience are worth it.

It's kinda funny. A couple of weeks ago I placed an ad on the Honolulu Craigslist wanting to hook-up with someone to show me around the city, perhaps hook-up for dinner, etc. I had even attached a picture of myself.

This is one of the responses I received back:

Hello, just simply spotted your ad, thought I ought to e-mail you and see if you are attracted to me.

I'm guessing $1500/day gets you her company (and fringe benefits).

I say strap her on and go gliding . . .

I saw sea turtles at lanikai beach! =] You know they steal sand from Lanikai to take to Waikiki?

I know they import sand to Waikiki. Sand is awesome at Lanikai. water is great, no big waves either.

If you get a car, I suggest going to the North Shore instead or hit up both. North Shore is great for buying fruits on the side of the road, banzai pipeline, and other cool vibe shit out that way. shrimp trucks!

If you like Beer, Its a chain but you've probably haven't been..the Yardhouse has like 80 beers on tap. its a chill bar, hard to get a seat but not hard to strike up random conversations. their burgers are quite awesome.

You're KILLING me here!! :ohno:

Check out my OP. :check:

Food in Waikiki generally blows. Nightlife is a bit ghetto too. Lots of army people and the locals are kind of territorial. Bars on Kuhio are kind of gangster-riffic.

I like Puka Dog, which are interesting hot dogs. They impale the buns and squirt mango mayonaise. Teddy's Better Burgers (fast food chain near the zoo). Eggs n' Things (good pancakes, portugese sausage omelettes). There's a good british pub there, its right by the Hyatt..its underground. Lulu's and Tiki's aren't too ghetto...closer to the zoo again.

Yuck.

Ever been to Chuck's Cellar?

The Honolulu City Council is considering a bill that would impose up to a $500 fine and/or up to six months in jail for public transit passengers convicted of being too smelly.

Honolulu police arrest about 500 hookers a year. But it’s estimated that for every one hooker on the street, there are 10 more either working out of “massage” parlors or “escort” services or freelancing on the Internet. And they aren’t shy. HBO did a documentary special called Downtown Girls: The Hookers of Honolulu which featured four of downtown’s busiest transvestite hookers: Barbie-Q, Juici, Saellah V. and Delicious.
