Like I've said many times before. Check the defenseman cores of the teams making the finals and winning the cup. Size wise they are big. They don't have two, 5'10 defenseman on them. One is stretching it unless it's a Makar, Fox or Hughes type. Dumbass Drury should have traded Jones last year. Do I think Jones will be good in the regular season? Yep. Good running the second PP unit? Yep. Do I think our defenseman core will be run over with two 5'10 defenseman and Lindgren at 6'0 in the playoffs? Absofuckinglutely. Once again the morons running this team show why we have one cup in the last 85+ years.

Maybe they can add someone during the season/at the trade deadline, but the team is worse now than it was when the Florida series ended, Jones as the 6th dman is an example of that. Unless you are banking on a very big jump from Kakko, and other kids going from not much/little impact to impact roles, I don't see how it can truthfully be debated.

Montreal will probably trade David Savard at the DL since he's a pending UFA, and they arent' making the playoffs. Maybe Dumoulin if Seattle falls out of it, another UFA. Then the following year Trouba will likely be gone and the cap will go up.

I would be very surprised if the PP worked without Fox on it. Jones is not close to Fox offensively. Jones can run the second PP unit and they might chip in a goal here and there. However, they won't be ranking in the top 15 without Fox on there.

Pull your head far enough away from Adam's cheeks to read what I write, not ragging on his regular season offense at all and Jones is nowhere near Fox's talent level but neither is his contract. Drury can have a #1 A center and a bruising dman for the Fox bucks before the NTC kicks in otherwise stop railing against those contracts when you can't bring yourself to compose a theoretical trade involving Adam.

He is bread's equal in regular season dominance but when shit gets tigh and more physical we have to worry just as much about fox as we do bread and Z.

At this point I am totally fine with giving Lav a pass....you can't have a revolving door in the head coach office and expect any type of growth as a team. But that is the nature of coaching in professional sports...you either get it done quickly or you're gone.

Agreed, and I guess I'd also say, what is Lav getting a "pass" for? His team finished first overall in the league and made the ECF in his first season, he needs a pass for those results? If the Rangers take a step back this season and don't make the playoffs, or get knocked out early, then let's talk, but I don't think Lav needs a "pass" for the results the team put up in season one under his leadership.

As for Fox, I think both sides have merits. What he adds to the team, his skill, his offensive prowess, his ability to QB a top PP every season, a # 1 dman, cannot be minimized. You are not finding a guy like that easily, and maybe not at all. But I will also say his size and his up and down playoff record, combined with his AAV and upcoming NMC should at least make you think about moving him, it would be wise for Drury to at least high level explore it.

My overall position remains the same on Fox though, if you can get a haul for him, not a solid or good deal, but a haul, you have to give trading him some serious thought. If you cannot get a haul of a return for him, I think the risk and loss outweighs the reward.

Lav wasn't hired to do what Gallant did a few years ago with a much weaker roster, he was hired to win the Cup, his leadership was allegedly what this squad lacked. If you want to give him a golf clap and attaboy for the President's Trophy that's fine, your expectations were lower than mine. With Fox, you're assuming that he'll snap out of it where I see his lack of goal scoring as a trend, he's not likely to improve physically so the breakdowns will become more prevalent.

We'll agree to disagree on Lav. I don't think anyone really gives a sh*t about winning the Pres trophy, but the team did finish first in the league in the regular season and made the ECF. Not sure how the coach got a "pass" with those results year one. Did the Rangers have the most talent in the league that I missed? I didn't see anyone pick them to win the Met or win the SC at the start of the season. If they struggle, miss the playoffs/exit early from the playoffs in year two, let's talk.

I think he did a good solid job. Is he the best coach in the world, no, but he is a good solid coach, whose team had a good season overall. I personally don't think his first season was in need of "getting a pass".

If anyone is "getting a pass" I think it is Drury. You could make the case that both Gallant in year one, and Lav in year one overachieved, or at least maximized the team's potential, by making the final 4. Not sure what Drury's plan is to be honest.

Fox is not the problem. Get a clue you fucking retards. Zibanejad is the first problem. You’re paying a center $8 million who doesn’t score at even strength. The second problem is you have the number one pick in the draft with world-class skill not playing on the first power-play unit when you don’t have a one time option from the right wing. The third problem is you have a fourth line that isn’t good at faceoffs, that isn’t physical that doesn’t have any kind of identity because the GM keeps putting a bunch of hasbeens on it or a bunch of no skill clowns like Rempe. The fourth problem is you have a third line center who doesn’t play because he’s got a head as soft as a melon and you don’t have any replacements.
