Good article about how f'd the Lakers are in 2014

I can't believe Jerry Buss didn't hand the keys over to Jeanie and gave it to his nincompoop son ... thank god for small miracles.

I'm saying that because Jerry turned the operation over to the least competent of his heirs maybe the Lakers franchise will suffer for a little while.

I don't see how they're fucked. Still have a shit load of cap space if they want it, and wouldn't doubt their ability to move Nash for an expiring if they desperately wanted to this season.

Hard to believe any team is stupid enough to take Nash.

THe Knicks just traded for Bargnani. We've seen Hedo traded. There's no untradeable contracts.

This is true but a team would have to believe Nash would be the last piece of a playoff run or second round run and he showed last year he just doesn't' have it in him anymore to be relied on for heavy or even mediocre minutes. A team would have to be willing to pay him 14 over the next two years and give up an exp contract with no other salary, with how cap conscious teams that aren't contenders are I just don't see anyone doing that.

The fault is from Jerry Buss, for having his children rule, instead of finding a good GM. Laker fans used to praise their setup while coming onto the ESPN board (every single day) to criticize Whitsitt's spending. They slowly turned Blazer fans their way.

Whenever you read Canzano hating on Paul Allen or his advisor Kolde, imagine if Allen had a bunch of kids running the team, forming a family mafia who never get fired. Think of that the next time you read of too much turnover in Blazers management. I love constant change in a team.

The article should include this scenario, because it works: Renounce everyone except Kobe, who agrees to reduce from $32M to $25M, leaving $21M for either LeBron or Carmello in the first year.

Nash's cap hold can be stretched over 3 years, can't it? That opens up more money for Bryant in the "Kobe will take less money" scenario.

The comments in the article are the best part.

GS traded Jefferson AND Biedrins for just a few picks. I'm sure they can include their 2014 pick to someone this offseaosn to take him.

I would gladly take their 2014 pick if I was a team (not POR because I don't want Nash) because the Lakers just aren't going to be that good next year. It could be a lotto pick.

Many players will give up $X in salary if given $Y in ownership, if Y > X.

The Busses can get Kobe's salary down. But they didn't hire Jackson because he wanted a little power-sharing, so I don't expect it with Kobe, either.

I hate to say it but with the Lakers they don't need to find players because players find the Lakers and the Lakers always find a way to get it done. That is the stone cold difference between the Lakers and every other team in the NBA.

Times They are a-Changin. And so are the rules. The Lakers could be just fine in a few years, but how many difference makers are there in the league? LeBron, Durant.........a few more. There used to be that one guy the Lakers could target that would rescue them. They either need to finish last this year or sign Lebron. Everything else will take a while.

On Lakersground, they're talking about signing LeBron and Melone next summer.

maybe kobe takes a min deal, and they sign lebron and melo

I don't see why LeBron or Melo would go to LA... Seems like a Lakers pipe dream. They're more likely going to end up getting Deng/Gay and Gortat or something along those lines. Kobe and Pau will both be getting 10+ mil contracts so that takes quite a bit of cap room away.

i read that too, but he will imo, no way he signs for 30+ million, and then whines about the talent on the team being shit

You give him too much credit. He will get as much as he possibly can (first concern) and then deal with how much is left for anyone else. Kobe doesn't care about winning as much as he does his money.
