Two points from the article:

1) They saved nearly $20 million from his suspension this year and with around $45 million coming off the books, the Yankees have money laying around.


45 Million coming off the books, not too shabby. (possibly towards a big free agent signing)


2) He'll hit a few home runs, probably tap into his bonus money, get hurt, struggle, and then we'll have to rely on whatever sub-replacement player they get to fill in behind him. Hopefully that will be Martin Prado and hopefully someone like Rob Refsnyder can come up and provide solid production at second base to fill the void..


We can despise Arod all we want - however, there is a real possibility he CAN supply similiar or better production at 3b than what they got last year from that position...and according to the article, and we are also aware of, Prado will be available to step in at 3b when/if Arod breaks down with Refsnyder and/or Pirela (?) (hopefully) also picking up some of the slack from 2b.

So while the article is in favor of dumping Arod, it also provided a couple of reasons why the Yanks could/should keep him and see what he has left.

It would be tough to not give him a fair shot if he performs well in ST. And like I said earlier, as disgusted as fans may appear with A-Rod, the 1st time he has a game winning hit all will be forgiven.

I'm also hoping the Yankees give Headley another contract to come back. To me he's like the 2nd coming of Scott Brosius. And between 3rd base & the outfield he'll still be able to get 400+ ABs.

Otherwise, he's a .265 hitter who averages 13 HRs, 60 RBI, .756 OPS and making 12-14 mil per yr, and this includes one season over 30 HRs and 100 RBI.

He had 191 ABs with the Yanks and batted .262 with 6 HRs, 17 RBI, .768 OPS
Approximately what he was with the Padres.

His defense could be the difference maker for the Yanks..I don't know.

I have a feeling, his offensive production could improve with the Yanks.
Is it worth the risk?

Is 13 HRs, 60 RBI, .756 OPS . and 12 mil per a good fit for this under achieving high priced team?

He's going to be tough call for the Yanks.

I think he'd take less if the Yankees would give him multiple years, say 3 with a TEAM option for a 4th. And not to nit-pick but he was hitting 229 with the Padres when we got him.
