Isn't gold trading at a historic high? About $900 an ounce right now. Its a "safe" bet, but again, its variable like anything.

I see there is a bicycle sales boom right now. I have seen on TV and read a couple articles about people commuting to work on bicycles. I'm not sure which company is selling a lot of bicycles but it is maybe a good investment because of the gas crisis and I think bicycles company's were doing bad up until the last year or so. I would think their stock price would be low but I'm not sure though.
