The only thing clear is that the Portland Beavers, the Padres' affiliate in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, will not be playing in Portland next season. Without a ballpark to play in after this season, the Beavers are for sale and will be relocated.
Where that franchise will end up, however, remains a mystery.
Three cities in North County -- Escondido, San Marcos and Carlsbad -- have been mentioned as future sites of the Portland franchise. Tucson, Ariz., has been considered, and sources say there is an ownership group in El Paso, Texas "that would love to get the Portland club."
