kb I presume means kilo bytes or 1,000 bytes per kilo. A byte is a word that is 8 bits long. A bit is a 1 or a 0. 8 bits describes one of 2 to the 8th power or 128 distinct possibilities. I think these days, computers use words that are either 32 bits long or in some cases 64 bits long. 2 to the 32nd power is about 4 Billion possibilities and 2 to the 64th power is about 16 Billion Billion or 16 Quintilian possibilities.
Damn, I had to look up Quintilian.
Going the other way, I only know off hand the small number of atto which means 10 to the -18th power. I never had to deal with smaller numbers unless you want to count the diameter of a hydrogen atom.
