Schmidt went from .293 35 113 and then the years and wear and tear caught up to him. An injury towards the end of 1988 and then in 1989 quickly said I can't do this anymore and that's it. I think by the late 30s people forget how much baseball these guys have played. All the throws and swings. All the pounding on the knees and playing with little injuries.
Gotcha, yeah I would have liked to have seen him have a few more years. He was a fun player to watch.
Years of playing at the vet probably did him in like many other turf players... Not saying Kruk was great, but he too had his career cut short from the turf...
