OT Governor Kate Brown is finally going to shut Oregon down

I hope so. All of the imbeciles who went to the coast or out the gorge last weekend certainly didn't get the message that this is serious.

I know that this graph has been posted here before, but it's good to check it out again. Oregon doing what we've been doing ends up exceeding hospital capacity by mid-April and is Italy a month later, with an estimated 64,000 deaths. Three months of shelter in place keeps us well within capacity and around 2,000 deaths. Still awful, but drastically less awful than status quo.

The WINCO in my neighborhood has been doing this for days.
GREAT!!!

I'm glad some places are doing this. I went to 4 different grocery stores trying to find TP for my mom on Saturday and they were all madhouses with most of the people not coming close to adhering to social distancing.

In line at the bank I saw a young adult go up to an older lady in front of me give her a big hug from behind and said "I haven't seen you in forever!" Then there was a family behind me and this other lady came right up to them and gently pushed one of their kids out of the way to read a sign on the bank wall and then proceeded to apologize while tapping all 4 members of the family.

A lot of people don't care about social distancing.

Oh wonderful, our Governor isn't taking questions at this time. How is this order being brought to everyone? I only found out it was official because of @SlyPokerDog's post. Why aren't there statewide phone alerts, emergency broadcasts, etc?

How is this being enforced? What course of action do employers have against companies that still require them to go to work and won't follow the order?

What are people like my mom supposed to do? She works for Fred Meyer but is 70 years old and has other issues that put her at high risk. Should she be able to stay home or can Fred Meyer hold her job over her head since she isn't sick.

While Governor Brown was playing "cool parent" she should have been formulating a comprehensive plan that covered all of this stuff.

I had already made the decision to shut down my store starting today BUT that order doesn't make it clear at all whether I actually have to or not.

You can't arrest or fine all of them though.

I went grocery shopping this morning. The Winco I go to was letting only 10 people in at a time, I was #9. I didn't ask what the interval between groups of 10 was. I was able to find mayocoba beans and lentils that I wasn't able to find last week. That made me feel better. I could have also gotten toilet paper if I had needed it. I wore my mask and tried to keep a distance in the line up the middle of the store to wait to checkout. Everything went well. I was amazed that so many people still aren't wearing masks.

Oh joy. Thank you governor Brown. I don't drink anymore but I need my smokable medication!

Except the cops have already said they're not messing with misdemeanors.

This will work great!

Also, they are letting non-violent prisoners out, most of them will be added to the homeless/street population, and they already have demonstrated they will not obey laws/rules/authorities...

I think that they're busing them to beautiful, sunny Central Oregon. They're confident that the sunshine and fresh air will keep them healthy. ;)

We do.

Prisons and jails are notorious for being breeding grounds for disease. Don't want any of that disease getting out and about.
I guess we could crowd them all into rooms with iron bars and douse them with gasoline, then light a match. You'd have to wear hearing protection.

I think that's yet again a big mistake. It allows a lot of businesses to force their employees to work or possibly get fired.

It does not.

Oregon labor laws and Federal labor laws prevent that.

Many businesses were already massively hiring because many of their employees already stopped coming in.

Massive hiring means even more massive laying off. It's not an even trade.

I know, I've read that several times and it is still very unclear. They list a bunch of randomly specific businesses.

For example, my store isn't specifically listed but it is kind of in a "strip mall" center so it technically is closed but the rest of the center is mostly restaurants and Safeway/Rite Aid who are all allowed to stay open? So basically my whole center isn't closed?

It’s going to be interesting to see what people look like after three months of no barber shops or hair salons. I’m thinking it’s going to be a return of ‘80s mullets.

Won't affect me. My wife can continue to grow her hair without harming her appearance.

Our governor and other leaders, even now, are still saying people should go for a walk, go for a bike ride, get some fresh air and sunshine...which is essential to maintain good health and a strong immune system.

Problem is they shut down nearly all the parks and other places most people can do that. Not everyone has their own private park/wildlife reserve as I do. 3/4ths of Portlanders can't even afford their to own a home let alone acreage.

Thankfully, Oregon is about half Federal public lands, which are still open and easy to find solitude on.

my hair is getting pretty long...I’m not gonna wash it and let it dread

edit:I mean I’m gonna get the soap that lets it still dread

Brings up a question.

Why are buses not on the list of can't do's? 40 people crammed into a bus, plodding around town seems like a virus factory.

Because Tri-Met owns Portland's government.

I was looking pretty ragged so I dropped by my barber last week.

Only parks that are closed and other places that are closed were closed because people were going there and congregating in large groups. These are mostly people who belong to the Trump cult and believed all the bullshit about the virus really being a nothing burger. They are immensely feeble minded and don't give a shit about others.

No, it's because transportation is a vital need even with the virus running wild.
