Brian Cook had a 9 year career in the NBA with a 13.1 career PER. What's wrong with that out of a 2nd-round pick? Cook was a first-round pick, fwiw.

Honestly, I need to see how Olshey fills in the roster around what he did today. I thought he did a nice job. But I have to believe he has some sort of the trade market. If he doesn't fill in around what he did today, I'll be disappointed. I know THIS is the DRAFT. But again, he at least has to have some sort of semblance of what's potentially possible via trade at this point. So I hope he planned accordingly.

I thought he did a nice job, though. We picked some nice pieces/potential.

I'll also be curious to see CJ in SL. I know it's just SL. But we ALL knew after Dame's performance, he was legit. Iy was just so obvious he'd be a contributor (he turned out to be much more). So I'm hoping for that from CJ.

Absolutely; but let's say you have a few weeks in the entire year; you need to get there; yet most your business deals require you to drive a nice car; you can get the nice car first; then go to the used car lot and find a nice used cj7 that can get the job done.

Or, maybe you get the nice car and trade it in for a tank that can smash the fuck out of the forest!

What about Grant Jerrett? Parade Magazine All-American honors and California's Gatorade Player of the Year award. This guy may have been a disappointment his one year in college, but he has quite a bit of upside for a 2nd round pick.

If you can get them for the same price, then you get the Testarrosa and sell it, then buy the Xterra and pocket the difference. Always best to maximize your assets when possible.

McCollum was 2nd BPA, BPITD was taken at #15 by the Bucks. Withey was a steal, a big steal, the rest of the picks were a waste of time.

10. Portland Trail Blazers: CJ McCollum, SG, Lehigh (Grade: A)

This is a very solid pick by the Trail Blazers. McCollum burst onto the national scene after his Lehigh squad upset Duke in the NCAA tournament. A foot injury limited him to just 12 games this past season, but health concerns are not an issue moving forward. McCollum is the best pure scorer in this draft. Portland is already set in the backcourt with Damian Lillard and Wesley Matthews. McCollum will be an excellent option off the bench and in small lineups. Without having to move draft spots, Portland immensely upgrades their atrocious collection of reserves.

10. Portland Trail Blazers: SG C.J. McCollum, Lehigh

McCollum now pairs with the player some expect him to follow, Damian Lillard. Like Lillard, McCollum is a high-scoring guard from a very small school who missed some time because of injury in college. Unlike Lillard, a point guard, McCollum plays shooting guard and relies on his deep shooting and quick handles. McCollum could be an asset off the bench for the Blazers or free them up to trade Wesley Matthews. Grade: B+

31. Portland Trail Blazers (via Cleveland Cavaliers): SG Allen Crabbe, California

UPDATE: The Trail Blazers added Crabbe for two future second-round picks. Crabbe might have been the best player available. He's a ready-to-play shooter who should come off the bench often next year, though he clashes a bit with McCollum. Grade: A-

39. Portland Trail Blazers: C Jeff Withey, Kansas

Withey is a shot-blocker but not much else. Still, he has good defensive instincts and could play in the NBA. Grade: C+

40. Portland Trail Blazers: PF Grant Jerrett, Arizona

Jerrett has a big frame and a great jump shot, but he left college after one season and will require patience. Still, in five years, he could be a starter if everything breaks right. Grade: B

No. 10: C.J. McCollum, PG/SG, Lehigh

The Portland Trail Blazers already have Damian Lillard on the roster, who isn't particularly big for a point guard, and now they're adding C.J. McCollum. The Lehigh product might be listed as a combo guard, but he's also small enough that he'll have to settle in as a point guard as well.

As a result, this was a strange pick. The scoring potential of the Blazers lineup is striking, but there were bigger priorities in Rip City than adding to an already strong backcourt. Steven Adams was still on the board, for example, and there was a glaring hole at center.

No. 31 (acquired from the Cleveland Cavaliers): Allen Crabbe, SG, California

This would have been a great value pick even after trading two future second-round picks to get here for the Portland Trail Blazers, but not after drafting McCollum.

Crabbe is another scoring guard, and there's not going to be enough room for him with Damian Lillard, McCollum and Wesley Matthews all on the roster. Unless he can beef up and play small forward, which seems unlikely, this was a strange pick.

No. 39: Jeff Withey, C, Kansas

It's hard to find a better role player at No. 39 than the one the Blazers landed.

Jeff Withey isn't just a great shot-blocker, he's a great defender who understands timing and rotations perfectly. Even without top-notch athleticism, Withey will be a great rim-protector in the NBA.

The Kansas product won't be much of an offensive threat, but he can run the court well and finish in transition. He was also showing off an expanding arsenal of post moves during his final season with the Jayhawks, even if it's unlikely he gets to do the same in Rip City.

No. 45: Marko Todorovic, C, Serbia

The 21-year-old big man won't be making it to the NBA for quite some time. His 6'11" frame and offensive upside give him a chance to eventually make it stateside, but this is the last time you'll hear his name for a while.

I agree. But I think Neil has a plan to get someone better than Koufos.
I was confused about why we'd take another PG, but I think Neil went with best player available. I like that strategy, especially in this draft.

Given his scoring ability and TO%, I think CJ is probably more of a SG than PG though. I usually hate tweener picks but he was BPA, and I see a good fit on offense for him with Dame.
