Well due to Duke play mainly zone defense it really hard to till how he does at man. The game I watch yesterday against NC ST where he did play man he was decent. He move his feet well and 9 out 10 times he stay in front of his man. He work hard got over screens and when he got beat a little he didn't give up on the play. That really all you can ask.

Doesn't mean he won't be bad defensively over his career.
I don't even project that kind of failure until there's a demonstrable reason to....don't think it does anything for the team or the fanbase or the player to anticipate a career of weaknesses...rookies are going to get schooled on defense first season..

I think like a scout so it's projection of all strength and weaknesses for me.

What do you think of Trent's ceiling?

Where do you all get the idea he is a trash defender?
Can’t rely on his #’s in college because they played a zone so isolation numbers don’t translate, because zone with zone principles. I’d still like to see some stats, because I’ve seen no proof so far. I’ve not even seen most scouts say he is “bad” on defense. Gambles too often is the primary critique, which is a far cry from sucking ass on D.

Because I've watched him. He has slow feet. Every scouting service agrees with it too.

Here is the difference between giving an opinion and being an insufferable know it all.
He asked me where i got the idea? I told him, its because I've watched him play and read many scouting reports. Wasn't an attack on anyone, it was me answering a question, and then you come in here and attack me...

If you think that's insufferable, then I wish you could interract with yourself.

“He’s a trash defender because I watched him” isn’t a productive response. And the part about every “scouting service” agreeing just isn’t true either.

Trent Jr is not a bad pick per-se, its just is he really worth 2 2nd round picks?

Was Crabbe worth 2 2nd round picks?

Actually like this pick too, he's got an NBA ready body and decent shooting - hopefully NBA training will bring his agility (Defense) around.

If he's the guy they wanted then no issues with paying an extra 2nd, but surely there is a more frugal way to acquire that 2nd rounder?? ,

Lmao, you seem to be struggling to follow the chain of interaction. He asked me where I got the idea that he wasn't a good defender, and I've gotten it from watching him. So I told him that, and that I believe he has slow feet. Maybe "every" was an exaggeration but I've seen multiple reports that says he's slow laterally.

Actually now that I think about it, I’m not sure I even read one report that said he was a trash defender. You’re pretty much the only one pushing that narrative. But feel free to link me.

You really haven't read anywhere that says he's a poor defender?

CARMELO also sometimes like guys who played non-starring roles on good teams, such as Kentucky’s Kevin Knox and Duke’s Gary Trent Jr. These players don’t necessarily post hugely impressive raw statistics, in part because they have to share the ball with a lot of other talented players. But they look better when evaluated on an efficiency basis and adjusted for strength of competition.

Most of what I've seen is more along the lines of
Does not project as a great perimeter defender at the next level
Than saying he's trash or poor on that end.
And a lot of that is stated based on effort and gambling

From Klay Thompson scouting report:

While there are some concerns about Thompson's athleticism hurting his offensive game at the next level, the bigger concerns lie on the defensive end, where he is noticeably lacking in lateral quickness and is taken off the dribble often. Thompson's effort level on the defensive end has improved during his time in college, and he shows solid awareness and makes good rotations off the ball, but his lack of quickness is certainly something that can be exploited. His problems can be hid somewhat on good defensive teams, and his apparent effort level and capacity for playing good team defense will certainly be useful, though he'd have a lot of work to do to even become an average NBA defender overall. Thompson's defensive problems should be equally pronounced at either the shooting guard or small forward positions, and the questions for teams will be how much can they coach him up and whether his offensive strengths do enough to outweigh his defensive shortcomings - Source: http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Finding-a-Niche-For-Klay-Thompson-3722/ ©DraftExpress/

Any sort of grade before the guy even puts on a jersey is non sense. So is giving them a “pass.”
Grades are subjective and based off opinion. How does it not make sense to have an opinion on a prospect?

From Klay Thompson scouting report:

And he was a lottery pick. Beal was another one with a similar profile as Trent. He was a top 5 pick. I think expectations from some fans need to be curbed a bit. Why does Trent have to be a two way player to be worth the pick anyway? If he develops into a rotational player he’d have beaten the odds.
