Grain-Fed vs. Grass-Fed Beef

Nature is not really nice, very few wild animals die a peaceful old age (elephants an exception). Nearly all animals are killed by predators, parasites, disease or starvation. And extinction is the ultimate fate of all species. But IMHO there is a big difference between watching a tiger kill an antelope on a Nature show, or watch my cat kill a rat, really the same thing, and see animals penned knee high in shit eating food they can't digest, or seeing animals choking and drowning in spilled oil. Nature is not really cruel, just indifferent. But we have the choice to care.

See, I disagree with this. We're at the top of the food chain so we can do what we want. Have you ever seen Orcas play with baby seals? Not a pretty sight...

Just checked and buffalo burgers are on the cafeteria menu today.

Yeah, we can do whatever we like. Just like if you slip a sorority chick some rufies you can do whatever you like. (Hey--just look at all kinds of animals--rape is a fact of nature!)

Just because we can do something doesn't mean we should.

Nonsense. Those animals were asking for it. Look at the way they dress.

[/I].

Questionable at best. Most females have a breeding season and/or estrus and it is very rare for a male to attempt a mating at other times.

You certainly see no animal equivalent of Sudan, for example, or Bosnia.

Actually, in the big majority of species, the females are larger than the males. We think it otherwise because we are vertebrates, but among arthropods, by far the largest group of animals, males are insignificant and often eaten by their mates.

If it's more efficient why not?

I don't think efficiency is the most important ingredient to a well-lived life. We may just see things differently.

Good time as any to bring up TheOatmeal.com. I present to you the most depraved sex slave on the planet, the male angler fish:
http://theoatmeal.com/comics/angler

At least he lives, sort of. Male spiders try really really hard to get to a female without disturbing her web. She is sensitive to the slightest vibration. Poor eyesight, so eats anything that vibrates her web. Males don't spin webs, so these microscopic wimps have to crawl all the way up to wherever she is, tiptoe (so to speak) to her, try to mate and if he succeeds, gets his head bitten off afterwards. Not figuratively. Literally.

Hey, I've known some women who wanted to do that with some men...

That's why "Spiderman" cracks me up. The life of a male spider is far from heroic, and he does not have a web.

Well, his nuts live anyway. Come to think of it, though, if I only get to keep one organ alive besides my brain, the nads aren't a bad second option. Even if you have to rent space with 4 or 5 other guys' balls.

You're right. It's worse being a spider.

I believe the health benefits of eating grass fed beef over grain fed are minimal. Traditional corn fed beef is the best tasting and most tender as well.

Exactly.

On a nutritional density scale, spinach is say an 800.

Grain fed beef is a 10.

Grass fed beef is a 20.

Grass fed beef is twice of "good", yet still pretty awful nutritionally speaking.

Actually, I think my BIL's concern was more related to potential internal inflammation issues, as opposed to strict nutritional content.

I thought cattle ate cattle, hence Denny Crane's eclectic views.

I think you are confusing which organ you actually enjoy =P

seems like it'd be "Mad Cow". Which is odd, since so many in here think the others are sheep.
