Is there a PG in 2009, our need, that signed with someone else for 8 mil that turned us down?

Miller wasn't our 1st choice. He wasn't even our 3rd or 4th choice. Word also came out after the fact that KP and Nate were torn on signing him.

Thank God we didn't get our first choice. Turk would have been toxic!

Give us names!!!! It's like trying to get out of my kids who broke the iPad.....crickets

All three used us to get a bigger deal. We have to overpay to lure guys here

I don't know that they "used us"...they got the deal they wanted. Because they happened to be RFA, their original team matched. Millsap signed with us with the intention of playing for Portland for 4 years. Just because Utah matched doesn't mean we didn't "sign" him. Hibbert did the same thing. He accepted our offer of a 4 year max, and would've played 4 years for us. But because Indy said they'd match, he played for them.

We didn't have enough to go after Howard or Paul or Jefferson or many of the other "Tier Ones and Twos."

Mm's concept is flawed. How many tier 1 or 2 free agents signed with sas, Boston, Dallas, and Detroit?

In other news, the sun rose in the East this morning.

I find it so fascinating that some of you want to argue, just to argue. Calling me cranky and such, when all i said was top tier free agents won't come here. They haven't in 43 years, but I'm wrong.....whatever, I forgot not to argue

Your argument is seriously flawed though.

It would have been a horrible signing, but that proves my point a bit. he was a top tier free agent that year that didn't sign with us

No he wasn't! He was a tier 3-4 player. Statistically he wasn't even middle of the pack in scoring, fg% and rebounding.

My argument is simply this. No top tier free agents would sign with Portland.

My reasoning is because none ever has.

How is that flawed?

I don't care about Boston, Dallas, SA or anyone else. Talking specifically about Portland

Lmao dude when someone signs an offer sheet; they signed with us. If the other team matches; then they matched and played at the rate we signed them for.

Ok sorry. Signs and plays, not signs to get their team to match

The "tier 1" free agent that year was hedo right?

Give it a rest mm

Ok, resting it will be. You guys are right. big time free agents come here all the time. I have no idea what I was thinking. Portland is a hot bed for players.

Its your argument that is flawed, but its not lacking for proof

Name guys we could have had, let's get to the bottom of this

We signed Brian Grant that one time...

Not to mention Kenny Anderson and Derek Anderson. In fact, I'd rather we didn't mention them.

I'm done arguing. I can't argue a point where all the facts are pointing to me being right, but still being called wrong, and cranky.

I guess that is my point. I can't name guys we could have had because we couldn't have had any of them because they chose not to come here. Saying we can land big time free agents, as Brian said, is not technically wrong, it's just never happened in the 43 years of our franchise.

Some day the Cubs will win the world series like Boston did

Well at least you're making progress. Just think twice before posting next time.

Brain grant, Kenny Anderson, shremp, Derek Anderson?

Grant is the one guy. I was waiting for someone to bring him up. If there were no cap or luxury tax, and PA was still willing to spend 100 million per season on a team, then maybe I would change my opinion

Lol its all good mm, I just can't think of any tier 1 guys we had a shot at

Oops... We actually were under cap even after he signed, FYI. The 1998-99 team was 2 mil under cap.

Yep. Arguing with irrational fans, who think the team can do no wrong is futile

I absolutely agree. I mean look at this thread and the irrational fan that doesn't include rfa offers or resigning our own free agents!
