Down 3-1 on the road and coming out of Minnesota with a win after tying it late. It's great seeing such a young team compete every night and improving.

If they can get 2 in Columbus they'll still have a few games in hand and things could get interesting heading towards the DL. I still think they should move Kreider if negotiations stall, either way. Hopefully Shesterkin can get back by Sun.

I shut it off when asswipe Skjei took another dumb penalty. Scary to think what would be the record of this team without Panarin. However, you probably could say that about a lot of teams if they didn't have their best offensive player. I've been a Skjei defender but I'm not sure he won't be on the block at this point. He's good friends with Trouba but they aren't even the first defense pair any longer over the past couple games. This is an awful faceoff team. Man they suck on draws. Trading Kreider would send the message to the team they are giving up. I don't see how that is a good thing.

To me two things drive the Kreider decision:

1. Does he want 6 or 7 years at 7 mill per +/-. If yes I cannot give him that much.
2. What is the return? If he gets viewed as the clear # 1 player available at the DL, and I can get two valuable assets for him, I have to do it. If I can get a 1st AND a NHL ready clear top 6/9 forward, that would be difficult for me to pass up.

I'll also say, while we have cap space now to sign him, especially after Hank/Smith/Staal come off the books after next season and Shatt's dead money takes a huge drop, what about 3-4 years down the road when Kreider makes 7 mill (and has 3 or 4 years left on his deal), Panarin makes 11.6 mill (and has many years left on his deal), Trouba makes 8 mill (and has years left on his deal), and we have to resign many kids? We are good today, and next year, and even the year after that, but in a few years it catches up as kids need new deals (see TB as was mentioned in another thread).

We need to be mindful of that I think.

We already know your position but thanks again for reminding us you want nothing to do with Kreider on a 6-7 yr 7m$ contract. I'm sure someone who reads this thread suffered a serious brain injury in the last 5 days and lost all recollection.
For me it all depends on what you want out of this organization. If you want the team to be in the best position to win now/soon you re-sign him and worry about 3-4 years down the road in 3-4 years. If you want to stick with the rebuild process you trade him for the best return right before the TDL and hope whatever you get back is as good or better than what he would be over the next several years.
I am tired of them being a middling or worse team and want them to go for it now. It's not like other teams won't be working to get better over the next several years as well. Who knows if the young players on the team are going to progress and will have the right complimentary players around them to be a cup contender3-4 years down the road. At this point, the Rangers should be building a roster for what they consider to be their best chance at competing for a cup.

Here’s why you keep Kreider...because you know what you’re going to get with him. Yes he will disappear from time to time, but he’s always a net front presence and a presence in the locker room. If you trade him then you are once again HOPING that what you get for him will work out. No contending team is going to trade something in the NHL that is worthwhile for him, so you’re basically trading him for a guy who has potential to be good and a late first round pick that likely isn’t going to be in the NHL for several years, if ever. Too big of questions to be asked. You resign Kreider and worry about where we will be in 3-4 years in 3-4 years. You have to eventually stop the rebuild and start to reload. There is a difference.
Now with that said, I could see the Rangers trading him with similar stipulations as they had in the Zucc trade but with more of a chance that the Rangers go after him and try to resign him.

I agree with everyone. You have to keep Kreider. A team like this doesn't shed a thirty goal guy. You build around Panarin, Zibanajad and Kreider.

The problem is, as his hot streak continues, his trade value goes up but so does his salary $$. It will be an interesting next 7-10 days to see who gets moved out of 5-6 possibilities.

Even if they trade him for a something they can't refuse, I think they bring him back 100%. If they can find a way to beat Boston, they might be able to make a charge for the post season which is hard to believe given a few weeks ago.

I would offer 5 yrs $40, if the Rangers trade CK they'll never resign him. If Philly gave effin Hayes $7+ last year CK easily gets offers of $8 or more. There is no free agent remotely close to CK size, strength and ability and no team going to trade anything close of value back to the Rangers. The only way they trade CK is if they don't intend to resign him. He's entering his prime and can play in NY, he also put up with far more bs from 2 different coaches than that pantywaist Lias. Pay the man the money and give him the C.

Boston being one of, if not the best defensive team in the league its not entirely surprising the Rangers havent had anything going. Their pp, which had been solid recently, looks abysmal.

Boston is good defensively but the Rangers looked tired and sloppy most of the game.
