The fact that this 90's gem hasn't been mentioned is...

... understandable.
That movie factors in prominently in my and my wife's love story--we've watched it together many times, and quote/reference it often. To me, the fact that you never find out how they do in the final competition eliminates it from consideration as a true sports movie.

That's fair, it is a romcom... toe pick!

I'm sure there are some decent soccer movies out there, but "Bend it Like Beckham" is the only one I can think of.

There are also a lot of good golf movies, but listing them here would require acknowledging golf as a sport, so I refuse.

Caddyshack, Tin Cup, Happy Gilmore, Bagger Vance come on.

Some of my favorites are Green Street Hooligans, Field of Dreams, Goal!, Happy Gilmore, The Greatest Game Ever Played, Remember the Titans, Space Jam, Talladega Nights, The Waterboy, and Angels in the Outfield.

If it weren't for the slave violence thing, Gladiator and Ben Hur are great movies. It was considered a sport in context but probably not viewed as such today. Hidalgo is also a great movie about long distance horse racing. Another car race movie with Matt Damon and Christain Bale was Ford vs Ferrari

The Bruce Lee story with Jason Lee playing Bruce is a great movie but man there are a ton of Kung Fu movies to list. Karate Kid for one

Oooh, kung fu movies. I gotta put 'Ip Man' in the debate if it qualifies.

anyone say the Replacements yet?

yes it was campy as hell, but it's still fun to watch, and the cheerleaders are HOT

North Dallas Forty is a great football movie from the late 70's.

It's arguably Nick Nolte's best movie alongside "Three Fugitives" (the 14% Rotten Tomatoes rating is too high. I'd give it 1%. It has opening credits and end credits, proving Three Fugitives is a completed movie)

the original Tron. That was the ultra cool stuff with the disks & the bikes & using the frisbee to drink glowing milk. Granted video games are not a "sport", but technically they were sports video games in that movie.

the remake of Tron ?? I'd rather watch the Blazers lose a bunch of games, then whatever that newer Tron was set out to accomplish.

For different reasons.....

Secretariat is a good move about one of the most amazing 'athletes' to ever grace a sporting even. What happened in the final leg of the Triple Crown was one of the most amazing spectacles in sport.

Brian's Song was incredible in it's depth and emotion. Not what I expected because I didn't know the story. Damn, if that doesn't get a lump in your throat of a true life football player, I'm not sure what will.

Dodgeball is just hilarious and I can put that on in the background over and over again.

underrated individual sports movies

Quicksilver, Kevin Bacon on a 10 speed running from an evil stock broking militia.

Gleaming the Cube, Christian Slater using skateboarding skills to stop illegal weapons shipments by Vietnamese gangsters.
