Greg's production tonight:

40.8% of the team rebounds
10% of the team assists
20% of the team steals
100% of the blocked shots

I'll take that.

Shooting was 4-13 (FG) and 5-8 (FT) and could improve but wow. Impressive.

Gramps...

3-4 of those missed shots are just trying to tip it in in major traffic. Hard to hold those against him.

I'd add about 65% of the team's defense.:devilwink:

And he stayed on the floor for 30 minutes without fouling out.

Go Blazers

Oden = BEAST. Really incredible effort from the big guy. Roy needs to never, EVER take a summer off ever, ever again...EVER.

I don't believe we went to GO once in the last 8 minutes. Pretty amazing. It's not a Roy thing, not a Blake thing, but a Nate thing. He simply looks incapable of designing a pick and roll for the bigs.

It's funny I keep reading in Quick's articles about last year that we ran a lot of pick and roll plays. WTF? What pick and roll?! It was pick and pop or setting a screen for Roy to drive. Seemingly never a pick and roll.
I saw that as well. A crime that Oden didn't have 20 and 20 and also a shot at us winning the game by scoring with the clock stopped.

Well on the upside. Greg will probably have a better PER than Dwight Howard after tonight ... and a woefully lower usage rate to match.

The real travesty, if you take away about 4 or 5 of those missed tip-ins Oden was really only involved in set plays on about 9 or 10 times. On the other hand Roy got all of his normal shots and most of LaMarcus' ... I don't want to say he was being selfish, because some of those heaves were end of the game desperation tries for threes and Miami certainly double and triple teamed Oden on the block, but ... :sigh:

I missed the second half of the game. But 20 rebounds? Good god.

Really great game for Greg tonight. Every time the ball was coming down off of the rim, you knew Greg had a good chance of coming up with it. He has exceptional timing.
A good feeling to see Greg with a smile on his face a few times there also, and that he was in the game for an extended stretch.

The bad: without those offensive boards by Greg, this team just got handed it's third embarrassing blowout.

That's the real positive of this season.... Greg's progress. It's the only thing keeping me positive.

This is why I never worried about Greg - a lot of people really do not understand what microfracture does to a player, and the actual recovery time. A full year of from basketball, especially undergoing surgery before you ever play in the NBA while missing that year, and not being able to do leg exercises when you're a big man? And he still put up 9/7 in limited time with a good shooting percentage.

when the game was still hanging in the balance, Oden set a pick for Miller and Oden rolled to the basket, wide open with his hands in the air; instead of passing, Miller put up a layup that missed terribly; made no sense

Someone once said I got Oden's back...to which I replied "Oden has a life size tatoo of me on his back". I've loved this kid since before we drafted him. He's special, HOF talent spotted by all the major scouts in Highschool a winner always. Injuries were stumbling blocks, but no one can deny his talent now.

I saw that too. Terrible.

from a poster on blazersedge, regarding our record

When Roy scores 25 or more: 1-4

When Greg scores 14 or more: 6-1

Come on Nate, establish the pecking order!

Sometimes the rolling big is covered well enough that the guard can't really get him the ball ... I don't recall the play specifically, but pinning this on Andre when he was 18/6 on 4/9 shooting with 12 free throw attempts doesn't quite wash for me.

I just hope this isn't another year of "growth", where we choke in the 1st round again (which as they're playing now would probably be a miracle).

Oden on the PNR is a charge waiting to happen.

Oden was dominant on both ends tonight. If he wasn't rebound, he was blocking shots. If he wasn't blocking shots, he was stealing the ball. If the wasn't stealing the ball, he was altering shots. Offensively, he was the only one with any pulse. I wish Roy could dominate both ends like that.

oden was terrible and sucked tonight i cant believe we picked him over durant!!!?

I was curious about Oden's game last night so I wandered on over to basketball-reference.com and did a quick little search with his stats and got some pretty surprising results:

If you look at his game last night 13 pts, 20 rebs (11 offensive) and 4 blks its only been done 10 times since '86-87. Thats impressive.

If you add to that search that he is only 21 years old .... only one other player has done it in that time ... Shaq. Thats amazing

He is finally showing signs of being that "Franchise Center" we all hoped we would have. It's a great and beautiful thing.

Random stat ...

Greg Oden's 13 points, 20 rebounds and four blocks went a wastin' as the Trail Blazers dropped a 107-100 decision to the visiting Heat. But we have to take notice of that kind of performance. Oden became only the third different Trail Blazers player with 20 rebounds, double-digit points and at least four blocks in a game since 1973, when the NBA started keeping track of blocks. The others who did it were Bill Walton (seven times from 1974 to 1977) and Joel Przybilla (in 2005).
