If this is Oden's 4th season ending knee injury, why is anyone talking about what he'll do after this season? These last two were not even sustained while he was playing basketball, the 2nd when he was simply jumping into the air, and no one knows where the 1st game from.
There is obviously something wrong with his body.
If he gets injured doing nothing, how do you expect him to survive a basketball season? Greg Oden is not "setback" he's done. Forget about him.
That's how I've felt for a while now.
If they have to rescind their QO, Oden becomes a UFA and he can sign with any team. At least that's what happened with Carlos Boozer in Cleveland. They had a handshake deal to have him re-sign for 6 years and he bolted.
maxiep, can you point me to where you're seeing that from? Interesting tidbit, thanks.
From the previous CBA, Article XI:
"A player who knows that he has a physical disability that would render him physically unable to perform the playing services required under a Player Contract the following Season may not validly accept a Qualifying Offer received under this Section 4 or Section 5 below, unless the ROFR Team consents after disclosure of such physical disability. Notwithstanding the immediately preceding sentence, a player who knows that he has a physical disability that would render him physically unable to perform the playing services required under a Player Contract the following Season remains subject to the ROFR Team’s Right of First Refusal."
So Oden might not be allowed to accept the Qualifying Offer but Portland would not have to give up their right of first refusal.
Maybe we'll be like the Spurs. Our HOF center is injured. Get another HOFer in the draft. Our HOF center comes back healthy. Championships ensue. Management lauded as geniuses for the next decade. It could happen, right? Sure it could. Just not to us.
They don't have to rescind the QO; GO isn't eligible to sign it. From what I understand (assuming this part of the CBA remains unchanged), we get the benefit of having the right of first refusal next year. As I said before, this year is like a QO mulligan.
I hope you are right. Why are they being so secretive about Greg's "Setback"? Buchanon wouldn't comment on the Nature of Greg's injury, how it may have occurred, if it could be rehabbed, etc. He also wouldn't comment on the specifics of the restructured deal. What's to gain by being secretive about the whole thing?
Roy is 27. Aldridge is 26. Oden is 23. They should all still be developing, still be reaching their peak years.
Now Roy is gone. Oden may have played his last game as a Blazer. Aldridge’s heart has raised concern again.
If it wasn’t for bad luck, this team would have no luck at all.
Out of sight, out of mind...
Could do wonders for this fanbases' psyche.
Though, that depends on the roster moves they make.
On 'Talkin Ball', someone heard the setback is a gimpy non-weight bearing ligament. So, I guess that means surgery to replace it. I could see that sidelining him until the Summer. Like all his injuries....it doesn't close the book, but it's another domino falling.
Trading LMA for Tyrus Thomas when PF was a position of need wasn't the Bulls' finest hour.

And really, if he was returning to action in Feb, he's only missing 3-4 months. This isn't the train wreck folks want it to be.
According to Storyteller, that's the rule from the previous CBA. I don't doubt that part was transferred to the new one.
Like I said, I think it's not terrible news.
I prefer today to Game 7, WCF 2000. So, no.
Yes, let's talk about Amar'e. How Amar'e came back too soon, put too much pressure and compensated with his other leg and played three games before being shut down again. A sound move.
You'll remember Greg had his microfracture surgery 13 months ago, so that requires another 5 months until it is 1.5 years. He was doing 5 on 5 less than a year after his first microfracture (hey, remember that, this wasn't his first), and his doctor for this one gave him an 18 month recovery schedule. Shockingly, November 2010 to December 2011 is not 18 months.
Additionally, let us recall two other items: Second microfracture was on his knee that was also still recovering from having its patella broken, and his doctors up until this point have said he is right on schedule.
So unless you want Greg to randomly develop mutant genes that allow him to go massively ahead of schedule to appease you, I don't know what you want. For people here to childishly suggest he went out last night in a drunken stupor and celebrated in LA (hey, he was in Colorado and then flew to Portland) without any evidence is irresponsible and defamatory.
Greg is a good kid who has done everything the organization has asked him, .
Greg Oden was at Blazers PF today to go through some non contact exercises and drills.
When will we get an update regarding his set back
