i want oden at your party mags, make it happen
I've been pondering the appropriate reaction if GO left after his QO and dominated for another team. I would imagine in many ways it would be worse what than LeBron did to Cleveland or Shaq did to Orlando. At least they gave them winning seasons and a trip to the Finals.
As I said before, if he turned out to be such an ungrateful cur, I would make sure to be Oden's first game with another team with a sign that simply read "Judas". But for him to make that step would mean that he fooled us all. He seems like a decent kid, who has a sense of right and wrong. I hate to say it, but he owes this franchise and this fan base for our financial, strategic and emotional investment in him; I'm not sure if I've ever said that about a Blazer before.

His agent annoys me. He acts as if it's the Blazer fault that Greg has been so fragile. They have invested over $21m with little in return (due to the injuries) and for him to even bring up the possibility of Greg bolting if disrespectful.
Mike Conley, PLEASE SHUT THE FUCK UP!
The Blazers Medical Staff, Surgeons and Training Staff have a less than stellar record. For you to equally blame it all on Greg Oden is uninformed.
Fact of the matter, nobody knows what portion of blame for all this is due to Oden and what portion lies with the experts that were charged with fixing his injuries/imbalances.

YEP.Are you serious?!?!
You have your opinion. I have mine. The job of the team staff is to proactively prepare for the stress of a physical game, and to deal well with the inevitable injuries that occur - no matter who is to "blame". I don't think the Blazers staff have done an excellent job on either account. Below world-class preparation and below world-class repair and rehab. You do know his first injury had nothing to do with our medical staff. The second injury had nothing to do with the staff as well. He came down hard on that knee. Seeing that injury; I doubt no form of preparation would have prevented that. So basically, the injuries are no one's fault.
Well, this is just a ridiculous concept. Fans don't own Oden. He isn't a slave. The Blazers didn't have to draft him. They didn't have pick up his options. It was their choice to continue to roll the dice on him. The idea that Oden owes you something because you sent him a fan letter and bought games tickets is all in your head. Oden can't be responsible for other people's crazy.BUT!!!! Us fans, the team and anyone associated with the franchise supported him 100%. It would be disrespectful to bolt!
I have already posted my detailed thoughts on this. Obviously we disagree, by a lot. Well, this is just a ridiculous concept. Fans don't own Oden. He isn't a slave. That's a load of shit 100%! It is a moral concept. Why do you use the term "Slave"? This goes with anything in life. He got paid millions to be injured. Leaving the team is a sign of immaturity and ungratefulness. This would be the same line as an employer keeping someone employed because they were going through some traumatic situation, then when that employee recovers; he says "Thanks but I am going to your competitor for less money just because the memory of work is too upsetting."
If you were the business owner you would want his head.
So yep, I feel he owes us! I feel he owes Allen! I think he owes himself! Him leaving is chicken shit and I would never have respect for him. I suspect you felt there was nothing wrong for Shaq to bolt on Orlando too? I think the franchise and fans show how much they appreciate it.
If Oden stays I'll wish him nothing but good luck and good health ... if he leaves I'll do the same. He doesn't owe me or anybody else in Portland a thing, he owes himself a career and if he can find that here and be happy doing it, then awesome, but if he decides that he needs to that somewhere else then I completely understand.
This has not been a good run for him here.
My thoughts as well. The Blazers paid him on potential...if he had stayed healthy, it would have been an absolute steal for them. Since he didn't, it was a bust in terms of money spent. That's the breaks of taking risks. It doesn't mean, IMO, that Oden now owes them...any more than the Blazers would owe Oden if he had produced much more than they had paid him for. What he owed the Blazers was to try his best to produce for them and nothing I've read suggests that he didn't. He was a tremendous player when healthy and it seems like he's been dedicated in each rehab.
If he leaves the Blazers, I'll be sad but it's his decision and I can't affix a morality to either choice (staying or leaving).

Congratulations on being a better person than I am. If he leaves for less or equal money, he'll become my most hated former Blazer ever.

I wouldn't say I'm a better person, it took me awhile but I've just fully moved on. That isn't to say I want him gone, I just don't have much left invested in him as a fan -- he's an ancillary player on this team as far as I'm concerned.
whats the best offer though from his perspective? Most money per year on the contract? What if a lower offer comes from a team in a state with less income tax and at the end of the day he gets to pocket more then the Portland offer? How about an opportunity to play with a team that gives him a better chance to win championships? Is that a better offer? How about an offer from a team that is closer to friends and family? I could see how that might be really important to a person.Same with me; at least for a long while. That would just suck beyond belief.
For those that say GO doesn't "owe" Portland, of course he doesn't in the sense that he can't be forced to do anything he doesn't want. It won't make him a criminal. Won't necessarily make a bad person, either. But it does make him an asshole to me. There are many things you can do that is not against the law or breaks any rule. Still doesn't mean your action is not that of a douchebag.
If GO accepts a better deal from some other team, fine. That will be on the Blazers. If he walks despite Portland giving him the best offer, then he's pretty much an ass.

The Blazers should never again draft players from tOSU, where Oden was injured, or UW, where Roy was injured. We simply can't trust the medical staffs at those two schools, based on the resent sample of Blazer players from those two schools, to produce balanced or uninjured players who can stay healthy in Portland. The Blazers should, however, draft any and all players from the U of Texas, because LMA was never injured there, and has been mostly healthy in the NBA, outside of the stent put in his heart at the end of his rookie year. Clearly the Longhorn medical staff fully prepared LMA to have his health survive the efforts of the absent-minded goofs that comprise the Blazer training and medical staffs. Why they couldn't do this for TJ Ford is of no concern, since he didn't play for the Blazers.
