People on other boards were saying his rehab is behind schedule. Is this true? What was the original time line for him to be cleared to start playing again (running, 5 on 5, ect.)?

Your first mistake was going to other forums for the inside info!

I've not read anything along those lines. The little thats come out is that he's on schedule. Collectively this board does a pretty good job of linking everything written on the Blazers so you'd think we'd have caught wind of bad news and suffered a complete meltdown if something was out there

I thought he was running around like more than a week ago?

They are probably basing him being behind schedule because Greg said he was hoping to be back by the playoffs.

if we find out the name of this other board, we will have found out where Mixum posts at now.

Well, if people on other boards say so, it must be true!

here's a recent chat link with the O's Joe Freeman claiming Greg's rehab is going well and that he should be good to go for the start of training camp

His closer was awesome:

"Alright ya'll the questions have been great, but I gotta go hit the Blackjack tables...er...I mean work on a story."

KP to NOLA? That's gotta be part of a VAST Vulcan conspiracy to net us CP3. KP needs to shoot that icing all over the cake. Lord knows I would.

I know you're being silly, but this would be yet another absolute fail on the part of Vulcan.

Pritchard wouldn't trade Portland a virus at this point I'd imagine.

He'd probably send CP to the Lakers for a basketball just to rub it in.

This rumor is caused by a lack of publicity about Oden's progress. I wish there would be more.

For 3 years, what he does to get back into playing form has been kept a secret, then when he returns we get excited, then he soon gets injured because he isn't in shape. The media pokes their noses into everything else, but shows no curiosity about Oden's therapy or workouts. So fans naturally wonder whether it will be the same old story when he returns.

Aside from taking any "cell phone photos" I could use more info too.

I personally talked to Jay Jensen and he said Oden will be back to start the year and Pryz around 40 games.

The usual promises. After 3 years of failure, I want more detail about what he's doing.

Even if the prediction is true that he plays opening night, there is no prediction there as to whether he will be 100% or 70%--whether he will endure, or soon go down because he isn't in the very best shape--whether, as usual, he will jog with his mouth wide open with big wrinkles on his face,or run around casually and worry-free, in shape.

If predictions must replace detailed reporting, then I want detailed predictions. (That still won't make me happy. I want a critical media watching, and not just the Oregonian reporting happy little quotes about the future from the Blazer PR machine.)

Two months ago, Quick or someone said the schedule was:

July: run/jog (I read he started doing that last week)
August: 2 on 2, 3 on 3.
September: 5 on 5
October: ready to go

Oden is always in rehab, and probably always will be. Every once in awhile he'll get on the court and tease us, and then it will be back to the bench, the locker room, the pool, or the rehab facility for several months.

I don't count on him any more. Wish I could.

LOL! Isn't 41 games the maximum one can play and still have their salary largely paid by insurance?

I think we all should understand that he's not going to be in NBA shape to start the year. I'm expecting him to be in full condition around the All Star break.

I think I've stated this in other threads, but what's been most disappointing about all these injuries is the fact that he's had to work on his conditioning and rehabilitation rather than on his post moves, footwork or his offensive repetoire. This is going to be his fourth year and he's like a rookie. It's frustrating. That being said, none of these injuries permanently reduce his athleticism, so I remain as hopeful as the day we drafted him. It's just taken a lot longer than I had hoped.

yeah, amen to all that, lets hope for an injury free seasom for Greg, that would be so enjoyable to watch

I ask for a definition of "he will be back"--at 70%? at 100%?

and someone answers with another lazy meaningless ambiguity, "He will be fine."

Unless management puts its foot down on expectations, the local and national media will begin a campaign of breathlessly asking McMillan every day, "When will he start?? When will he start?? When will he start?? You aren't REALLY going to keep him on the bench, are you?"

Last November, instead of giving in to the media and starting him, McMillan should have angrily replied to them all, "Not this season, and next time you ask, you get a punch in the nose from me, you #$$^%"

If he had limited Oden's minutes and never started him, Oden's injury would have happened later, if at all. Oden is not skilled enough to be our starter for at least a year.

no one knows for sure about something as fickle as a person's health best guesses are all we've got. Will Armon Johnson be 100% to start the season. No one knows for sure. Expecting definitive answers from message board posters on something that is obviously not set in stone is pretty silly

So Nate could have anticipated an injury that no one saw coming and further he should have sheltered his prized Big from the breathless media's vicious questions :smiley-squint: I don't think anything dampens the local or national media's interest in Greg as he's the most dynamic story line on the Blazers. No matter what, questions will be there. Oh the horror!

Greg only averaged 24 MPG last year. For someone who isn't skilled in your opinion (like say Przybilla), in those limited minutes he was a dominant Big with tremendous rebounding, shotblocking and shooting percentages. Starting or coming off the bench has nothing to do with whether a freak injury like the one he suffered happens or not. Dude has to play to develop, and injury is a possibility for everyone.

choosing to freak out over uncertainties is an option but I'm more of a hope for the best and enjoy the ups and downs type

I like you post but you can not know this. He just jumped and the knee cap gave way. It was probably not due too much playing. It may have been poor training for him to get that muscle too strong to rip the cap. The coach's decision would have had to be psychic it seems to me..

It was primed to give way whether at practice, playing part time for full time. He cracked it in a collision with Maggette that was called a bone chip and obviously never really handled correctly. Unfortunate, but he was playing on a ticking bomb.

Do you know that for sure or are you just speculating? It looks like a SWAG to me.

I can't prove it but I feel they are right. Did Oden ever get evaluated by someone not on the Blazers medical/training staff after the Magette incident?
