Nothing. It's over. Miles plays at least 2 games and goes back on the book for the Blazers . . . sucks, but nothing Blazers will do anything about.

Funny thing would be if the griz played him for 10 more minutes in 2 games and cut him . . . just to spite Allen and his threats.

You are naive if you think Allen won't try every legal method of recouping his $9 million. Game is on...NOW.

Wow! I'm going to buy me some tickets to the Grizzlies game!!

Chris Wallace, I HATE YOU!!! And people think this guy is a competent GM. lol. I hope we blow them out by 50.

They're not stupid. Even if they are trying to screw the Blazers they're not going to make it blatently obvious.

Yah, but what would be more proof that you're NOT doing it to screw over Portland?

Signing him to a contract for the rest of the year. This just comes off as them post-poning that another what, 10 days?

Don't teams have to sign players to a contract for the rest of the year after the 2nd 10 day contract?

If they want to look like they're not doing it just to mess up the cap situation here, they should've just signed him in the first place. Now Memphis is calling Portlands bluff, or trying to force the Blazers hand.

It could get ugly. Portland bites on Memphis trade suggestion, and then the Grizzlies waive Miles or they force Portland to "sue". The funny thing is, one theory has it that Portland and Memphis had a trade brewing between the two teams, and Portland said no. So Memphis said "ok, we'll sign Darius then" to which Portland said "pfft, go ahead".

Then Memphis signed him, and Portland then wrote the email, to which Memphis said "go ahead, we'll re-sign him" thinking this could be their trump card in forcing Portland to trade certain players they don't want to trade (I would guess, Rudy).

The funniest thing is, this would make sense if Darius was actually still a good player (or ever was). Right now, it's tantamount to Portland signing Jason Jennings. Someone who won't make a lick of difference on the court. Think about it, Darius has had, since Pre-Season, to get into game shape. And he still is gimpy and shitty.

The funniest thing about that, is that the rumored trade the Grizzlies were trying to strong arm would benefit the Blazers more than the Grizzlies, as the Grizzlies would be giving up a better prospect (Michael Conley) for a mediocre at best wing.

Perhaps trading the pick for Shaun Livingston and getting cash will offset the Miles loss, and then Memphis can get the entire $300k from Paul Allen because of the luxury tax.

Whoopee! Totally worth it! :ohno:

Sorry bro, but your cred has been shot on this board because of your ignorance in the other (and much longer) thread on this.

You guys are jumping the gun here. Lets see how it plays out. They may keep Miles fore the whole season. He might be healthy.

I see nothing wrong with what Portland did by sending out the e-mail. They were simply saying sign Darius for the right reason only. Not to screw with us. And so far i see nothing wrong with what Memphis has done. We will know soon enough by IF and WHEN they release him.

I guess where I see a difference about nothing wrong is if some random business owner sent me an email telling me how the rules of our business work and threatening to sue me if I dare go where the rules say I can't . . . I have problem with that.

Who the hell is this person telling me my wht my business is and how I should run it. I don't need to be told what the rules are and be told by some organization they will be looking to sue me if they think I'm doing something wrong.

My response is fuck you and what you think the rules are. I know what the rules are and will run my business within the boundry of the rules as I interpret them, and if you think I'm doing anything wrong then bring your damn lawsuit. But until then, take your damn empty threats and advise about how the business works and shove them up your ass.

That would be my response behind close doors to the email. Publically I would take the high road and have no comment.

Chris Wallace is a very competent GM.

He took the Lakers package over the Bulls package (Noah, Thomas, and Nocioni) for Gasol. While Thomas is starting to come around, Gasol is still better, and he's only a rookie, and is bigger.

What Wallace just did was a no brainer move. Hurt your competition in free agency this summer, get a little kickback in luxury tax revenue, and please all of the other executives in the league who seemed to be cheering this on.

Yet a team that needs cash NOW benefits from this, and coincidently, the Blazers send out the email to everybody last night.

Use your head. This was a pre-emptive (and brilliant) strike. I can't wait for the lawsuit if Miles isn't guaranteed for the season.

Two owners have commented on this.

Gilbert, who is going to lose the league MVP soon, and Mark Cuban, who said he would do the exact same thing the Blazers did.

Use your head . . . tell you what . . . use your head to see this was an empty threat.

And if you are so convinced I'm not using my head, take advantage of my blindness and bet me about this lawsuit.

If Miles isn't guaranteed for the season, name your price on the bet that a lawsuit gets brought. Easy money for you papa

Yeah. But what if you were in fact doing something wrong? And let's say for the sake of argument you knew you were doing something wrong but were hoping to get away with it. I don't think your response would be quite the same.

fuck memphis. piece of shit franchise. have they ever done anything good?

Great, so Cuban, who is being investigated or charged with ethical violations of inside trading sides with us. Go jailblazers

If I was doing something wrong and knew it. And I knew that I was doing something wrong against the richest person in the industry . . . I would expect a lawsuit and not threats. these people are in charge in a multi-billion dollar industry . . . they know the score.

I would expect threats from the little guy who couldn't afford to bring a lawsuit.

PM me your bet offer.

Come, nobody thinks that. He was terrible in Boston, he's terrible in Memphis. He isn't a good GM, he has never been a good GM, and he never will be a good GM.

Didn't Chris Wallace work for us before/after he was hired by Boston? I'm wondering if he had issues with Allen. Or maybe he is just a flaming douche.

Easy for you to say when it isn't your $9 million being heisted. The Blazers as a company are not Paul Allen. You do realize this, right? Haven't we already been through bankruptcy once with the Rose Garden? Now, the economy is much, much worse. Go ahead and bash the Blazers for protecting their interest. It doesn't surprise me at all.

I agree... But, if I'm Paul Allen, I then say to you, "Okay", and bring the lawsuit because I'm not in the habit of giving money away due to the incompetence of league/union appointed doctors. We'll see if you talk like that after dealing with Paul Allens legal team for awhile. Enjoy.

You're right. The guy is getting back to a franchise that once paid him.. I have even less respect for the guy.

Before joining the Heat, Wallace worked in various scouting capacities for the Portland Trail Blazers, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, and New York Knicks.

He does seem to be unethical, if that counts.

Seriously, the NBA is a business. You and everyone else need to chill the fuck out. It's a business, and Portland is simply making a business move. It's a little desperate, but it's a business move, and ultimately, it will have little effect, as there will be at least one team that will sign Miles. But I truly believe, given current management, it's a business move, and I ultimately think Portland did is as they have little to lose. What, are you going to stop being a Portland fan? Everything else we've gone through, and them giving back what they got from a guy like Miles, and you'll stop being a Portland fan? Didn't think so. I'd think fans should be happy Portland is making business decisions and sticking it to the players that stuck it to Portland.

You know, in my little inconsequential world (compared to an Allen or Wallace) I have had my legal battles. Good attorneys help, but I will take the lesser attorney and facts on my side any day of the week. Hard to overcome the facts, and if I know they got nothing . . . bring that shit on.

Like everyone else ever associated with Boston, he's a flaming douche.

Also note that your fantasy of always having civil legal fees paid for rarely happens in the real world.
