GTJ sitting

I'd agree if it was more than one game, but I'm not going to second guess him on this one given that I have no idea as to what factored into his decision.
I'm with you. I just hope that after what we saw last season that Gary and Ant aren't seen as being on the same level and/or fighting for minutes with each other. I want Gary (if there aren't extenuating circumstances i.e. health or trade) regardless of how he's been in practice to be treated like he has solid minutes. I'm hoping that is going to be the case and don't have any reason to think otherwise at this point.

The strength of the team (for now) is their depth. Theoretically that’s a good thing. That means Stotts doesn’t HAVE to play anyone. Trent wasn’t the only guy sitting down the stretch. Melo wasn’t out there either, even when the team had possession and needed to score. As long as egos are kept in check, I don’t view it as a negative.

A good test will come when CJ has an off night. Everyone knows when he’s not scoring he’s not making much of an impact. But at the same time he can get hot at any minute. Will Stotts bench him down the stretch if he’s struggling and someone, say Gary or Hood, aren’t? TBD.

My Conspiracy Theory:
Neil told Stotts not to play him. "You don't want $13 mil/year, OK, I'll screw with your PT!"
I had the same thought (obviously I don't give much weight to it) it made me a little sick even thinking about people trying to fuck each other over like that.

Olshey didn't offer Trent $13M/yr. That was Trent's agent's propaganda to other teams, to raise Trent's summer offers up to, he dreams, maybe $7M/yr.

This thread keeps comparing SG Trent to PG Simons. It should compare SG Trent to SG McCollum.

The cause of SG Trent getting few minutes was that SG McCollum had a great early 3rd quarter, so he kept playing the rest of the game. The cause of PG Simons getting minutes was that PG Lillard was completely ineffective when it mattered, despite Lillard's 32 invisible filler points.

It's hard not to compare the two when Stotts explicitly said that Gary sat because Simons played.

This guy disagrees with you.

Yeah man I guess that's possible and would be nice. We can't take a coach at his word when he says shit like "I just decided to go with Ant" and "I can only go with nine guys". Even by Stotts' standards those seem pretty lame (not that I put it past him) so he could just be giving it the spin Olshey asked him to give it. We'll see.

I've noticed that you often disagree vehemently with your own posts. Not just this time.

You're right, I have actual real life problems with it. Conflicting thoughts and ideologies. It's kind of funny that I haven't noticed it playing out on here but I'm sure it does since it's rather dominant with me.

It was one game....if GTJ is benched for multiple games then it's something to worry about. But Stotts felt Ant was on his game that night.

Like, at the start of a recent anti-Stotts thread you strongly opposed his critics, and by a couple of pages later, you had joined the overwhelming wave to become a strong critic. When your opinions are always so certain, flipflops are more egregious.

Trent is getting traded for Pat Connaughton. He was a Neil guy wayyyy before Gary.:hcp:

sorry I can’t read sarcasm through text. I don’t know him personally. Did I come at him too hard there? sorry

I'm actually paying Sly as we speak to give you the BAN HAMMER!!!!

btw, "smfh" mean "smack my forehead", as in "can't believe this" sorta thing.

If Trent is being bench because of an impending trade - no issue.

If Trent is sitting down so Melo or Hood can play - much bigger issue.

Hood just isn't there yet even if he is on his way back. Melo has been our worse shooter and worst defender.....and not just recently. Not sure how he has earned minutes over anyone. He was a great offensive player, but that was in the past. And he was never a very good defender.....and is getting worse every year now.

The overtime game lasted 53 minutes.

PG: 41 Lillard, 10 Simons, 2 unknown
SG: 44 McCollum, 6 Trent, 3 unknown
SF: 36 Jones, 16 Hood, 1 unknown
PF: 39 Covington, 20 Anthony, -6 unknown
C: 35 Nurkic, 18 Kanter, 0 unknown

It's safe to say that Trent played the 2 PG minutes, leaving 2+3 minutes at SG for the SFs. The PFs played 2+3+1 minutes at SF.

Trent can't supplant many Simon minutes, since both Trent and McCollum are awful PGs. So for Trent to get more minutes, he will have to be a better SF than the taller Jones or Hood. (Had Simons taken some SG minutes from Trent, you might make sense criticizing Simons. But it was the reverse. Trent took 2 PG minutes from Simons.)

So this thread's beef should be with either Hood or Jones, not Simons and Anthony...and with the guy who took by far the most of Trent's minutes, McCollum, who scored 44 points. Now that I straightened out your goal, good luck.

Could have came from the top to play Simons due to he is a 1st rounder but I really don't think the reason. But let see if this continues with Simons over Trent and if that happens then maybe Trent not in the olshey future. Remember olshey don't usually keep his 2nd round draft picks after there 1st contract and plus Trent will be restricted free agent so don't be surprised Trent probably be traded before the deadline. Zach I think a different story due to he traded up for him so I think they will offer him a contract.

we're on game 2 and people are flipping out about the rotation? If Popovich did something like this, and won the game, people would call him a genius, and how he was teaching Trent something or other, or who the fuck knows what. If any other coach adjusts their rotation, it's making an adjustment. If Stotts does it, he's an idiot. Naturally. He didn't get to see Simons in preseason because of injury. It's early in the season, and he gave him run. Gimme a fucking break

Offering CJ and Nurk for Harden is like Offering a better version of Eric Gordon and Wood for Dame, sorry guys we won't get him i highly doubt that they would even consider our best offer

After watching Harden bitching out his teammates the entire game, all I can say is: "Thank God".

I like that we keep pretending Simons has anything to do with playmaking.

We really don't know what he can do since he's not really been asked to. The people who do know, probably see it in practice, which we aren't privy too.

What better way to showcase a player than to play him against team that might be traded to

you're probably right, it would require someone else and picks probably, if that.
