What if...?

All 5 of our guards played regular minutes, but played fewer games? Would they rebel against the notion? Example:

Miller--64 g, 28 mpg, 1792 min
Blake--64 g, 20 mpg, 1280 min
Bayless--64 g, 14 mpg, 896 min
Rudy--64 g, 25 mpg, 1600 min
Roy--72 g, 32 mpg, 2304 min
Totals--328 g, 7872 min (48 x 82 x 2)

Basically, everyone takes every 4th game off (except Roy, who rests every 8th game), everyone gets good minutes in games in which they do play, and everyone is well-rested for the playoffs. Crazy? Perhaps, but it's an intriguing notion....

Interesting, but I still think we should play our 5 best guys at all times... I.m.o

interesting way of trying to solve a problem but its the NBA, you can't have your best guy sitting out every 8th game, that's like have a loss every 8th game. I don't even know why the Blazers are so worried about giving Bayless minutes to be honest, the guy has promise but he's not that good.

Interesting thought, but it would end up most likely costing us some wins. If all of our guards were old, then it might be a decent idea a little less frequently, but I don't think it's appropriate for us.

If dropping a couple wins in the regular season meant fresher legs in the post season, wouldn't it be worth it?

Well, Miller is old, and while Roy may not be, he certainly plays a style which could benefit from extra rest.

I am hoping though that with this team this year, Andre and Rudy emerge, and become a force, so that Roy can rest more--- and not have to expend tremendous amounts of energy all game long. Then our problem should be solved; kind of, for the post season

This would never, ever happen. But kudos for thinking outside the box.

All 5 guys deserve more PT than you have there, although when they're all on the same team you've probably got the percentages pretty close to fair other than the Blake/Miller disparity. I'd put them at 24/24.

Not happenning with Nate coaching.

His win/loss record is the deciding factor for his lineups, and development has never entered into it.

Short of replacing Nate, a consolidation trade is the only way to avoid the massive chemistry issues looming for our guards and small forwards. It's gonna get ugly.

Makes sense to me but then I am crazy. Doesn't mean it wouldn't work though. Kick back every 4th working day and get paid for it.........ok, I'll do it.

Stern wouldn't allow your innovative plan. In the past, the league fined a team for resting stars in the last regular season game. It has to be credible to say with a straight face that they're injured.

what exactly has bayless done in real action to warrent getting any minutes? i'm sorry but barring injury the guy needs to ride the pine and learn from miller this season. i'm hoping it becomes more of a 3 man rotation with blake being the odd guy out most nights.

I like the idea but consistency is so big for basketball players...Look at how much Bayless struggled due to inconsistent playing time last year. Unfortunately somebody is going to get the shaft and unless Bayless goes nuts and starts killing he is f*cked

I think the guard rotation should be cut down to Roy, Miller and Rudy, and none of the rest of them should not touch the court unless there is foul trouble.

If this happens then Nate should be fired. Guys are going to sit, some guys are going to be unhappy and that's just the way it is.

What has Miller done on our team to warrant more PT than Bayless?

Going by the radio and stat sheets, Bayless should be playing ahead of Miller.

It seems all Miller has to teach him is how to ignore teammates and jack up horrid misses all night like you're the #1 option. I think Jerryd outgrew that selfish tendency over the summer. Too bad Miller never will.

Too bad you couldn't outgrow your point guard meme over the summer ...

I can see this to a lesser degree, with Blake/Bayless, based on matchups and who is hot. When Bayless plays, Blake would play spot minutes, and wouldn't necessarily sit out entirely. The upside is that Blake can rest more and Bayless' head won't explode. The downside is confusion about who's gonna play and how much any given night.
