You get away from the major tourist areas like Cancun and Playa Del Carmen and things get really inexpensive. This is where we're staying in Merida, the Gran Hotel, $36/night.

lost my virginity in a place that looked similar to that in Mexico

Mayan pyramids... tough as rock.

The Pixel 6 Pro... not tough as rock.

Dropped that f'ing thing today at Xpujil. Screen smashed. Thank god I have the insurance. Can't get it fixed until we get back, lol.

...

And we're in Playa Del Carmen!

That was a long ass drive. Beautiful but long. Went through 2 military checkpoints, they just waved us through. So we circled the entire Yucatan Penisula.

Time to party on 5th street!

NOw you know you had this pic taken to get on tv with the Blazers around the world thing they do….
They quit doing that a long time ago.
I had a Blazer maniac friend of mine going to France who asked to borrow my Nic Batum jersey. I asked him to take a picture of himself wearing the jersey under the Arc de Triomphe and another photo of him with jersey on top of the Eiffel Tower. The Blazers would not display either one. That's when I got disillusioned with their photos.

Always take a back up phone on vacation!

We are at our final stop, the Rio Palace Mexico in Playacar. We stayed here last year and loved it. We booked the cheapest room last year and the cheapest room this year. Because we cheap! When we were checking into our room and talking with the clerk we told her briefly about our adventures. I guess she liked something we said because she gave us a two-story jacuzzi suite. This thing is insane.

I do and did.

We use it as a security camera in our room in case someone comes in and tries to take anything.

Alfred Camera in the google playstore. Free app, works great.

For years I planned this photo, wearing my Blazers caps on my travels. I submitted it in February 2020. I thought I was going to win the contest for sure but it got lost in the pandemic shuffle. Another victim of Covid! :(

My bus in Mexico was once stopped and frisked by federales with submachine guns in Mexico. NBD when I was 25. But today? That would FREAK ME OUT. Does it not make you nervous?

We were really far away from any city or town so the first one had us a little nervous. We were prepared to have them pull us out of the car and search everything. The dude was cool as hell. The second one we weren't as nervous but still cautious and respectful.

The area we were in the local Mayan population is upset over the Maya Train coming through that area. They already have had a lot of land taken from them so they are very upset about losing the land they have left.

Curious how much Spanish you speak or can at least understand. I know very little, so I would have been freaked the hell out having no idea what was being said!

I speak a little, understand a little more. My dad was born in Cuba and I have relatives in Venezuela. But yes he did speak very fast and I at first had no idea what he said. Once I opened my big American mouth he smiled and slowed down.

What was really interesting is that Americans don't go to that area. Mostly French and German citizens go that far south. I think for the most part they like having more American tourists in that area.

Would me too!
I was once pulled over in Lake Oswego and I was nervous as hell, they have a bad ass reputation for harassment of any that live on the East Side of the Willamette.

Funny/weird Lake O police story: I lived there 20 years ago when I first moved here. One day, some teenagers cut me off while driving so I honked at them. 20 minutes later there's a knock at my door. It's the LO police. "Did you honk at someone?" he asked. "Yes," I said. "We don't do that in Lake Oswego," he replied.

They came to my house to tell me not to honk my car horn.

Moved 3 months later!
