Looking at the numbers I would not offer him any more than 3 years at 3 million. What mediocre production he gives you offensively is based on speed. The second he loses a step you are looking at a 4th line, 10 g, 15 A player at best. In other words, I'm not paying this guy close to what his agent wants. Some people say his agent is tough. So, Hagelin and not Klein is probably a good bet for a salary being sent out the door. If Sather brings back a young, NHL ready forward in a deal for Talbot, that is probably a good sign Hagelin is going to be sent packing. I had visions of a Hagelin-Lindberg-Fast 4th line. Doesn't look like that will happen. Seems all the Rangers try to hold the organization up for money they aren't worth. Cally did it. Zucc tried but then relented. Some will say Girardi and Staal aren't worth what they got. The reality is the Rangers are going to have to pay Kreider and Hayes a crap load sooner than later. They can't give out these idiotoic NTC's and pay role players 3.5 to 4.5 million.

I remember discussing this with you midseason or so in a thread I started on Hags, suggesting he may be the odd man out. My rationale then was that Duclair, another left winger who is almost as fast but with better hands, more offense and more size, would be the ideal replacement at a much cheaper hit. Obviously we're in a different situation now.

Like I've said, how the organization uses Talbot here will determine the direction of the offseason. If we get back a young NHL-ready forward, I'd say Hags is as good as gone. We could even package Hags with Talbot to a team needing to get better defensively (EDMONTON!!!!!) and get that forward back in one deal.

If we only go picks for Talbot and Sather doesnt turn around and use them on a forward, that's a good sign Hags is coming back. He loves it here and is close with all the guys who have taken slightly less to stay (Staal, G, Zucc, even Brass although I didnt like that contract) and I could see a deal getting done for around 3.2m per.

Hags was an AV favorite. So that plays in his favor. However, with the draft so close, I think if Hagelin and his agent are out of their minds, there will be no time for them to give in over the course of the year. That's what Zucc did. He gave in before the trade deadline. Whatever Sather is going to do is probably going to happen before or the day of the draft.

Hagelin is worth $3mil no higher.. If he wants more than they need to trade him.. Fast is a better player IMO

HE is gone IMO. The cap is very likely (and projected) to go down next year with the Canadian dollar in the toilet and the NHLPA using up their "last" escalator clause. No way he is still here unless he accepts a really favorable deal....

I like Hags but i agree we can't pay him more than $3M and would not be opposed to dealing him altogether. I like the idea of a Hags/Talbot package to get something better in return

Would love to see sather trade talbot, klein and hags separately bringing back a bunch of draft picks in a strong draft back. If he packages 2 of them a player we could use should come back also.

We should not trade Klein. Period. He has a great contract. Boyle is a relic and sucks most of the time. Boyle should be told to drop his NTC or sit all next season. The right handed defenseman should be Girardi, Klein and McIlrath. Sather should draft at least 2 right handed defenseman if he can pick up some extra picks.

I agree dump that klein should stay but no rumors at all regarding boyle moving anywhere and since one has to go for big mac to do more than be the 7th d-man watching in the stands klein looks like the odd man out.

I would think they might figure McIlrath will play 60 games. Give Boyle 20 of those. Girardi will only play 70 games. He is no spring chicken. He needs time off now. Give Boyle 10 of those. Give Klein, Staal, McDonagh and Yandle 5 games off. Give Boyle those 20. Let him get 50 games of relief. They might be thinking along those lines. It's not like those players need those extra games. Other than Yandle, they almost all have long term deals.

Dump you can say this until you're blue in the face, but it's not going to happen. He left real money on the table to come here, and the organization will not pay a guy 4.5m to sit in the stands. He knows that, I know that, and you know that.

If McIlrath is going to make this team next year, Klein has to go. I think he has to go anyway, simply because with Staal's extension now on the books and Yandle's full 2.6m hit, we'd be spending far too much on D. The two candidates to go are Yandle and Klein (McDonagh untouchable, Staal G and Boyle with NTCs in effect). Yandle is harder to replance than Klein, both from a skill set perspective and from a handed-ness perspective (Skjei not ready yet).

Now we're using a platoon? It's the blueline in the NHL, not first base for a bad baseball team. No teams do this except maybe with their 6th dman . Girardi has never played less than 80 games in his career, all of a suden he will for sure only play 70?

I dont want to trade Klein either, maybe I havent made that clear. I think he's a good player. But somebody needs to go on the blueline if we want to improve the forward unit. I dont see any other way around it.

-Glass to anybody for anything (I'll take a 7th rounder in 2050)
-Sign Chris Stewart - Sather's obligatory 1 year vet reclamation project (Stempniak, Pouliot, etc.). I think he can be had for cheap and wants to play for a contender after rotting in BUF. Right handed, tough, can play the front on the 2nd PP unit.
-Sign either Gustavvson, Neuvirth or Fasth to back up (whoever is cheaper)

I think Skjei is pretty close to ready after a long college career, but i don't want to deal off Klein. I see him playing out the year in htfd and being a playoff extra, then ft after Boyle leaves. Mcilrath we'll see, ill have to see it to believe it.

Giving players 5 to 10 games off in the NHL is not a platoon. It's really common sense. The Rangers defenseman have a lot of miles on them. These guys have played a lot of playoff games. I'd rather see these guys get 5 to 10 games off during the regular season. IMO, the defense has worn down badly in the playoffs when they have gotten to the third round. An extra 5 to 10 games off would make a difference.

Hagelin, Klein and Talbot is not getting you the 16th pick and Yakupov. Forget it. I don't think there is any way they are trading Yakupov not that they will get the first pick overall.
