He needs to do a little more still, you can win a few cy youngs but you realllly got seperate yourself to be in the hall of fame. I cant say johan santana is one of the greatest pitchers of all time.

Santana is in no way a HOF lock like Mardy C said. He's not even thirty yet. He's going to need to do a lot more to help out his cause and increase his win/strikeout totals. But even that might not get him in. Example Bert Blyleven has 287 (or so) wins and is third or fourth all-time in K's and isn't in the HOF.Also, Griffey Jr. has to be in. There was a 5+ year stretch when he was with the Mariners where people thought he would be the greatest ever when his career ended. He has 550+ HR's I believe, and he has a couple years left.

Griffey Jr.- A career .291 hitter .374 obp .557 slugging with 563 homeruns 10 gold glovesDawson- A career .279 hitter .323 obp .482 slugging with 438 homeruns 8 (?) gold glovesGriffey had a much better career. This is also in 2 less seasons than Dawson, and countless less games because of injury. Griffey is just flat out a better player.

Anyone with 500+ is a lock.In about 15 years, you'll need to be hitting 550-600 to be a lock though as the power numbers just continue to rise.

I don't think anyone who has 500+ is a lock..especially active players who were part of the steroid era...

It's considered "prestigious" to be in the 500 club...it's a lock right now. like I said, in 10-15 years, it may not be though.

If the voters consider his time as both a starter and a closer I see him getting in but if they look over his years as a closer he won't make it.-- There are pitchers who aren't in the HoF that have better numbers then Schilling 200 wins and a 3.5 era aren't all that impressive in the voter's eyes. He does have 2 championship rings and has that whole curse assassin thing going for him (curse of the bambino & the "Ex Cubs Factor") which may help him but based just on the numbers I would say he would fall short of the Hall.

People talk about him like they do Eckersley, and he's in.Schilling will probably get in just because the media fell in love with the whole bloody sock thing, so he gets nothing but good press.I'm with you on Sosa, I don't believe he should get in. Because I genuinely believe he used steroids. Bonds however, will be the alltime HR champ, has something like 7 gold gloves, and is the single season HR champ. He will probably get in, even though he may have used roids.

When Smoltz was a closer, he was dominant.I know Griffey is better than Dawson, I was just giving an example.People forget that in Pittsburgh and early San Francisco years, Barry Bonds was FAST! He was a 40/40 guy once, and that be more icing to the hall of fame cake he will undoubtedly get.

I think Griffey is a shoo-in, just imagine what he'd be like without injuries. I'm not saying that's why he'd get in, but just imagine...Barry Bonds would get in the Hall without steroids. Like SunnyD said, he was a 40/40 guy once, and was a solid power guy, and had many seasons with 100+ RBI's.As for Sammy Sosa, I really have no idea whether he will get in or not.How is Smoltz not a lock? Smoltz is most definately in. I think sheff is probably in as well, but he needs to get 500 HRs to lock it up. As a smart Skip Bayless says, this is the Hall of Greatness, not the hall of very good. I doubt Chipper is in. 358 HR and 1, 199 RBIs isn't even close to good enough.

What about Jeff Kent? Only second basemen to have more than 300 home runs. He consistently put up 20+ HR's and 90+ RBI's, what do you think?Larry Walker? Not a shoo-in, but deserves some consideration.Jeff Bagwell? Sure his later numbers are inflated some from playing at Minute Maid, but I think playing in the Astrodome for the other part of his career makes up for it. He had many seasons of 30+ HR's and 100+ RBI's.Thoughts?
