It'll be interesting to see who they replace Colmes with. Either another spineless wuss, or a someone better than Colmes.

Yeah, Colmes is horrible at presenting the liberal point of view. He also seems scared of Hannity and lets him control the direction of the discussion most of the time.

As I recall, Colmes is a registered independent. Just like Hannity! ...Right?

Who cares?

It's indicative of FOX's sense of balance to team an extreme right-winger with an independent. How much you care is up to you. I don't care a great deal, since I don't watch the show. I just think it's amusing.

Yes, an "independent". Are you just making stuff up? I really don't care, because I don't watch the show, but here is Colmes' book.

No, I'm not making it up. I've read that in a few places, including a quote once from Alan Colmes, that he was a registered independent when he was offered the position on the show.

What does that have to do with his political ideology? He seems to fancy the word "liberal" to describe himself these days.

People who are liberal don't tend to call themselves independents.

He seems to fancy the word "liberal" to describe himself these days.

Indeed he does. So either he's shifted or he fancies the marketing appeal of billing himself a liberal, opposite Hannity's conservatism.

I'm still wondering how a guy who is obviously to the far, far, left (read his blog) is considered an "independent" by you, and I wonder how this is an indictment of FoxNews?

So we agree. The fact that Colmes called himself an independent means he wasn't a liberal. He's either changed since then or has re-branded himself.

Being a "registered Independent" isn't the same as being independent in ideology. You know this, right?

Yes, it's not literally the same thing, but it's an indicator, IMO. As far as I've seen, people who consider themselves strongly conservative or liberal don't register or call themselves "independents." He may have been liberal-leaning, but registering as an independent or unaffliated is generally a centrist/moderate statement.

I never really liked the show. An ultra-dry conservative and an elitist liberal. Both had to stick to their points of view even when they knew they were wrong (as it so often is on TV shows).

You're aware that that's the entire point of the show, right?

Apparently when it was in early development, Fox was calling the show "Hannity and Liberal To Be Named Later"... he was clearly (and brilliantly, from their perspective) chosen by Fox to be the perfect embodiment of somebody's stereotype of the lame-ass liberal -- elitist, effeminate, weak-willed, etc. No one had ever heard of him before he got put on that show; he was not and is not a prominent liberal commentator. He was paid a lot of money to be Hannity's punching bag, not to offer up real opposition.

Hmmm...I had always looked upon it as the ultra-dry liberal and elitist conservative. But, oh, well. ;)

Hmmmmm.......I always looked at it as a couple of douchebags on the air after a bigger douchebag. Followed by a plastic surgery freak.

who wouldn't be on the air right now if she didn't luck into covering OJ 14 years ago.

Greta Van Susteren? I always wondered how she became so prominent, first as one of FOX News' top legal analysts and then her own show.
