Garsh, what a great list.

Garsh, that's probably not even the half of it. Obviously you have no problem with anything on the list cause all you can come up with garsh. I'd hate to face you in a debate. :beatinto:

And Marzy even "liked" it.

I disagree.

... mostly because of Trump, the country is now more divided than it's been since the Civil War. And I cannot think of anything noteworthy that he's accomplished since he took office.
I disagree, and please dont take that as disrespect. I dont believe its mostly because of Trump. I think Trump is a symptom of the problem. I think its a matter of two sides who have grown further and further divided by politics, and corruption and trust. Trump may be pressing the buttons to speed up division, but those were all put in place by years of hard work of our politicians agenda’s and thirst for power. They have been in divide and conquer mode for years, as long as Ive been adult.

I was thinking about it today and whats crazy about how far the two sides have seperated is no matter who wins, its creating a lot of “losers”, and not just in the boo-hoo we lost an election, but its created a legitimate fear that people fall into. Think of it this way, how many people hate Trump because they’re afraid what that means for THEM, their loved ones, all that, they think his rhetoric is wrong for America, and harmful. -Id probably agree with them, but right or wrong or our feelings on this isnt the point. The same is true of many people on the other sides of these elections, they view the other sides candidate as dangerous, harmful to their way of lives, harmful to their loved ones. It used to be more a matter of oh there will be some bad and good policies from these people I want to vote for them because they’ll e act policies I’ll like, it used to be well we lose an election and thats ok. The last 20ish years its more than that, its controlling people through fear. You can say its all because one side is stupid, or sheeps, or whatever, but its very real, people are fearful of what people of the “other side” will do to them, and fear drives people. Our politicians, our education systems, our media has created not only a cycle of hatred between the extremes of these factions, but a cycle of fear. Trump’s presence, whoever comes next will probably be even more of a response to peoples fear and that is what started this, we have not had unity at our top in decades and that has created a lot division amongst people who for the most part all just want to go about their lives in peace, but are scared of their values and beliefs being devalued, to the point that they as individual feel like they dont have value.

Sure, when Trump gets impeached, we can go at it.

How about this. trump gets impeached you leave the forum for a month. If he doesn't then I will. Just agree and we are on.

It isn't the media that has created the fear, it has been trump. Listen to all of his campaign speeches back in 2015/16 and they were all built on the demise of the USA and how horrible the country has been run and then he gets elected and he claims he has saved the USA where as in reality he has created more separation among the people than any president during my lifetime. He puts fear into the people. Have you heard any of the democratic candidates talk so derogatory of the republicans like trump does of the democrats? Have you heard any of those candidates continually use derogatory name calling towards trump. or any of his administration? He has more resignations and firing of people in his administration than any president. Why is that? He fires people till he eventually gets someone who is nothing but a yes man (Barr, Pompeo). He doesn't listen to any of the experts cause he thinks he's smarter than anyone else which makes him very dangerous for our country.

The media fear mongering happened long before Trump. Yes I have heard both republicans and democrats long before 2016 go at each other with name calling and fear mongering. Also heck yeah I hear the current crop of democratic candidates taking shots at Trump and his followers all the time, the debates so far have been you need a clap you just say Trump cant do math or something, or call him something, derogatory. There was fear long before Trump got here and it has been sown for years.

Im not going to argue with you about if Trump is good or bad thats not the point the point, is there are a lot of people just like you who have fears of another four years of Trump and what that does for what you believe the country should look like and whether your values are important or not. Theres also many people on the other side who believe that your views are dangerous and have all their own fears. Like I said I fall mostly that the Trumps way of handling our country doesnt work IMO, but the environment we see now, is NOT just Trump showed up out of no where, it is years worth of division, dissent pointing fingers, hate, and fear mongering to the point that people are legitimately scared of what Trump will do, or what whoever the DNC’s candidate will do. Because they used to in the general elections start seeking the center but the last 3-4 elections they just pander to their base, and are clearly only really trying to lead the ones who agree with them. Trump, and the Trump supporters crowd are a symptom of the problem, they are not the originators of the problem. Hate begets Hate as the saying goes, but fear is similar and what we have right now is two sides that do basically hate each other, and two sides that are fearful of what the other side will do to them if they win or lose.

Sorry tbf, I can't agree with that at all. Give me some examples. I already listed several examples of trump.

Which part? There are multiple politicians who have said Climate change will kill everyone in 12 years, fear. There were multiple “Bush did 9-11” theorists in main stream media, fear. Some of the biggest applauses in the DNC debates have been nothing but Trump bashing, every day on this site theres a lot of, “Trump Supporters this, Trump supporters that, they’re all sheep, or whatever else”. For years this cyclical fear and hate mongering has happened heck It may be at an apex now, and Trump like I said is pushing those buttons hard, but he is certainly not the start of it, and getting rid of him wont just magically heal all the division either it will just make the side your on feel better, while the other sides assumes the position you and others and even myself has had. We do not have a single candidate currently that includes Trump who is at all interested in trying to bring the two sides together.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step... it's not realistic to expect anyone to 'fix it' altogether, but it is possible to improve on the current situation. And I totally disagree if you are claiming that none of the candidates available would improve the situation. I'd say all of them would (including the 3rd party candidates and the non-Trump republicans).

Improve the situation, maybe. Im not sure. Improve it for some, and not for others.

So, you aren't sure if anyone could be less divisive than Donald Trump? Really?

barfo

Our country's foundation is way beyond the ability of Trump's - or anybody else's - ability to destruct it. All is well.
I wish you were right but I can see the damage being done.

Quite accurate too.
Not really. It cuts the true list way short. He's actually done a lot more damage than that. For instance, think of all the damage to the environment.
Did you know that he got a Federal judge appointed who had never tried a case in court before in his life. Yep, not any kind of court whatsoever. Federal judges are appointed for life. The guy had never even tried a case in traffic court. This is an indicator of the kind of damage he's doing to our Federal courts.

Hmmm.....not so sure. Folks in here would then begin to miss threads like THIS, which, BTW, you never bothered responding to.

I agree completely. And I'm sure there are even more examples that could be listed other than Cup's and yours.

No, Im not sure anyone will be, not could be. Of course they could be, but Im not sure any of them are all that interested in being less divisive.

Actually I DID respond to the THREAD and then I responded to YOUR post which was actually OFF topic and your first post was a video of Christopher Walken having a fever. Boy that was sure on topic wasn't it? If you really want the house maid to clean up this thread, maybe you should start with many of your posts. I figured as much you wouldn't take the bet. :bwpopcorn:

based on what? I have heard many of them say we need to get back to being a united country. I haven't seen trump make any attempt to unite and instead at almost every interview he tries to push the divide even further by calling the democrats the "do nothings". Maybe he should check with Moscow Mitch and all the bills that sit on his desk that he refuses to bring to a vote that have already passed in the house. He was also the person that said one of his proudest moments was blocking Obama from getting anything passsed (yes, he actually said that). How does that bring about unity? Have you heard any democratic politician talk about a civil war if a dem doesn't get elected? I have heard trump and some of his administration make those comments. The candidates may not be able to do it either, but I am more than willing to give them the chance as we know what we have now and can't see anything being worse for uniting this country.

Exactly as I just touched on a handful to make a point and even said that as I know there is a much longer list that can be shown if someone wanted to take the time, but how many does anyone have to list to have an impact?

Actually, no...you never did respond to that thread. Apparently, you missed the hyper-link. That's not too surprising, though. As to the wager, it's really kind of a silly offering. Care to up that ante? I then might consider.

whatever you want to think, but you are wrong. You have my offer. Take it or leave it.

I think your pessimism is going to turn out to have been unjustified.

I'm wrong about you not responding the other thread, or about Trump, or both?

Dude, bacon and bourbon gravy. I promise you'll be the hit of turkey day.

You are wrong about a lot of things but not worth it to go into.

Have a nice day.

When we were at our FL beach house in October, we were a bit surprised to find that one of our previous guests had left this large bottle of bourbon behind. I'm more of a beer drinker, so I had no idea about its quality. However, my brother-in-law told me it's pretty darned good. Might have to take you up on that bacon/bourbon gravy. Do you have a good recipe?
