So a Mum's friends cousin gave birth recently. Nothing wrong with that. but then my mum told me the baby had a mild case of harlequin ichthyosis. I thought I'd look it up out of curiosity and i found that her skin will be similar to this little girls.

but then i noticed some more pictures and it has some more serious affects. Luckily the baby didn't turn out to be this badly affected by Harlequins

NOTE: This picture is pretty Gruesome. If you have a weak stomach i recommend you don't click this link.

Yeah the condition that that first girl has is extremely mild.

I feel bad for anyone that clicked into this thread (and onto that picture) without knowing what this was before hand (pre-med FTW!)

If anyone still feels randy after seeing that one, check out calcified fetuses (stone babies).

Here is a milder case,

The girl in the gray t-shirt (Lucy Betts) is the longest living person with harlequins.

That is gruesome. What causes this birth effect?

Whoa, dead serious, I was watching this youtube video for a demon baby, and it was that exact baby in the video there!

I feel so bad now knowing it had a condition :(

The baby didn't seem to be crying though, or screaming.

Ah, that makes my feel weird.

Probably. I mean your skin is always split open, and oh yeah, your eye balls are on the outside of your skull.
The eyes are where they should be from what I understand, it's just that the eyelids are "everted" or turned inside out. But yea having all your skin crack at joints and different places has to be painful.

Even the mild cases, which have lived to 18. Here is what they do:
Overnight, Lucy and Hannah's bodies grow as much skin as a normal body would grow in 14 days. Every morning and every night they have to bathe for up to 2 hours. The top layers of excess skin have to be rubbed off and softened with skin cream to prevent it cracking and causing infection. This can be a very painful process which the girls have undergone since birth. Between them, Hannah and Lucy use one 12kg tub of skin cream every 5 days.

I gotta go to bed soon so i will click the pics tomorrow. I just feel sorry for these kids and it makes me grateful for the normality I have been blessed with.

If you're about to sleep I must recommend you click the pictures first.

no thanks. I saw the pics of that poor california teenager who wrecked her dad's porsche a couple years back and I slept that night but it wasn't easy.

You passed your first test of SportsTwo. Congratulations, and welcome :)

Rarghhhhhhhhh caaaaaaaaaaahgssssss sathhhhhhhha!

Is this curable?
Nope. They can treat the milder cases, which is time consuming, and can be painful.
