Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes
I completely agree with VanillaGorilla, but I also agree with other statements made in this thread.
The last couple drafts have been complete wastes; beabois and gibson passed over for Claver (draft and stash, I guess - think we traded Mullens?) don't really remember how it went down but Beaubois and Gibson were who I believed we should have picked; was furious with Babbitt for Martell and then Armon, but was happy with Elliot, and last year we obviously had the Smith over Faried issue.
However, that was previous management (or mismanagement) and I came into this draft with clear expectations - acquire assets, get better, draft BPA - but go for need amongst these tiers. This meant Anthony Davis was clearly tier 1. Tier 2 I had Beal, MKG, T Rob. Amongst these players, dependent on our plans for Batum, and where we wanted to head as an organization, I'd choose Brad Beal, solely because we need a SG more than a 3 or 4.
Tier 3 I had Lillard, Barnes, Waiters, Drummond. I would have chosen Lillard, solely because I'm crazy high on him, but also because I believe the gap between him and Marshall is MUCH greater than Drummond and Leonard/Henson/Zeller/etc. I had Marshall quite low in tiers, while my next tier consisted of Leonard/Ross/Lamb/Henson/Rivers. Due to the need process, I would have taken Leonard, Henson, or Ross here (Would have taken Ross, I'm fairly high on him. He is tier 3.5 IMO).
So what it boiled down to was a Tier 3 (Drummond) and about a tier 6ish player (Marshall) or Tier 3 (Lillard) and a tier 4 (Meyers) player.
Within this process, I think we greatly succeeded in achieving our goals, that I had in place for us for the draft.
That is why I label this a great success, and I'm ok with passing on Barnes (as long as we have something in place for Batum - which I believe we do, as Olshey said he is a pillar). It keeps us from having a redundancy, two SFs with similar skillsets, neither attacking, and addressed a need as well.
