Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Last thing (then I'm done I swear) . . . if you listened to 750 during the draft, it was so obvious who Mike and Mike thought should be drafted (Lillard and Leonard). I swear these two picks were decided before the draft even started. They started talking about and pushing Leonard right after Lillard was picked and they never even talked about drafting Barnes while the Blazers were on the clock for the #6 pick. They knew.

Alright done. Go Blazers!

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Whatever...We'll see who has better stats next year b\t Lillatard and Barnes....

I didn't really watch the Mike and Mike but it was pretty clear to the media who we would pick too. They had us passing on Drummond for Lillard and the ESPN guys even said we would pass on Barnes for him. Then all they talked about really was Zeller/Meyers for our 11th pick (The ESPN guys also assumed we would pick Rivers but he wouldn't fall to us).

I will guarantee its Lillard, 3 years down the line might be a different story.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

So you want to draft based off need. Fine.

I just hate that strategy, we have a massive talent hole on this roster and are nowhere close to competing for a title, I want us to acquire the most talent. I'm not certain if Batum's best postion is at SG or off the bench anyways. So maybe theres a chance a starting SF was the biggest need for this team? We could get a free agent PG and Joel Freeland could be competent center. Now if we were a piece away from contending I could see leaning more towards drafting primarily for immediate need.

But being multiple steps away from having a contending roster, we have no idea what those step will do to our positional strength.

My thought is if I believe Lillard's potential in the NBA is equal to Barnes', then you're 50/50 and you go for need.

Sure, we could endlessly compare the two--which would be silly since they play different positions and have completely different roles--if our goal is to seek a reason to criticize (or validate) the front office. Or, we could just watch Lillard play and develop and hope he becomes a legitimate NBA point guard.

I think I'll opt for the latter, thanks.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Do better at what? Perhaps you haven't noticed, but I'm actually a pleasant person. I don't have an ax to grind. I'm not someone who gets involved in flame wars. My initial post in this thread was suggesting a way for you to avoid all the angst that your dealing with tonight. All the hostility has come from your end.

Again, I'm sorry that your disappointment in this draft has made you so angry. However, if taking it out on me makes you feel better, your welcome to continue. My platypus hat and I will be right here to absorb all the vitriol you can send my way.

Hey can I take you up on that offer. If you don't mind:

damn that mother #%#% shit hell damn fucking hat fucking damn to all hell for love of god jesus mother of jesus fucking damn hat.

. . . . . didn't really work. I'll just take a valium a shot and go to bed. Thx though

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

If the difference is clear, I agree. If there's no significant edge for either, I think you definitely select the player at a position of need.

Plus one. Some fools don't understand common sense.

Good luck with that...

oh and hoping for Nolan Smith and Luke Babbitt, and Victor Claver....

Hope springs eternal with you doesn't it? Is that how you justify the failures of this franchise?

Since you asked--I have very little hope of Smith being any more than a 10 mpg backup. Babbitt has a ceiling of Jason Kapono; could be useful, but not a building block. I've never seen Claver play, so I can't really have an opinion on him until I do.

What you seem to call "hope", I believe is patience. I wait until I have a legitimate basis to produce an opinion before I form one. Jumping to conclusions requires more energy than I'm willing to expend.

Didn't bother me a bit, but my hat is highly offended.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Seriously, is that the best you can do?

Weak sauce....

Fucking joke, dude.

Is being Douchey, crybaby about the draft the best you can do? How long will you cry for?

Just curious, so we can all prep.

The funny thing is, I actually made that error. Twice in one post, no less...

I'm not betting my house on it or anything! Yet it is my strong opinion that this was a huge mistake of a pick, just like it was my opinion the Nolan Smith pick was a horrendous reach of a second round talent. Maybe I'm right maybe I'm wrong, we can pull up this thread in the future. Obviously we don't know for 100% certainty what any of these player will become; maybe Anthony Davis will be a scrub and Fab Melo will be the rookie of the year? But even if we don't know for certain we can make an educated guess. I would guess LeBron will have a great season and another chance at being the MVP and Luol Deng has no chance at an MVP; yet you'd be more correct to say we won't know for absolute sure until the games are actually played.

As an outside observer that doesn't suffer from Blazer war room group think I believe our management again made a very poor choice. I will call them out when I see bad decisions. I loved both Gerald trades and many previous drafts but today I think they made a bad choice and I will call them out as I see it.

I enjoy thinking about the FUTURE of this roster, hoping for the improvements from the players and believing one day we will be a contender; to do that involves judging what this roster will become, which involves uncertainty, projections, and estimations. If you only want to view the past then you can do it with 100% accuracy but that is very boring narrow minded fandom in my opinion.

...oh stop it - if your player evaluation skills are anything like your gambling skills, then I think the Blazers did one hell of a job by picking Lilliard [he fits the "culture"...oh wait, KP is gone?!]

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Which Blazers fans? Most "Blazers fans'" predictions and selections have been terrible. There was a sizeable contingent that wanted Adam Morrison, that thought Webster was the best pick, thought trading Andre Miller for Raymond Felton was a great deal, etc. Considering that "Blazers fans" as a group can make about 20 different selections for one draft pick, it's not exactly surprising that one of those 20 ended up being the "right" one.

I remember those who were devastated when we didn't go after Gerald Green.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

Barnes has a star skillset, with the mind of a D-Leaguer. He has that passive type mentality that seperates himself from guys who know what to do with the skillset they have. Another Marvin Williams. There's a reason he was once hyped as a #1 prospect, to now slipping to the #7. The more scouts watched him, the more they realized that his game has holes and his mindset isn't going to cut it in the NBA.

Hell, I still think he'll be a 15-18ppg scorer in the NBA and have a decent career. But I'm sorry, if I think that Lillard will turn out to be a franchise PG (which the Blazers seem to think), I take a player that is at a much harder position to replace than the dime-a-dozen 15ppg wing player....

Batum plays more aggressive over in Europe. Love watching him play on the French Nat team. Have no clue why he is so much more timid over here. Popovich had the same problem with Parker tell this year. He always said there were two different parkers, the ultra aggressive one who plays for France and then the most passive one on the spurs.

Olshey must have been consulting with Mike and Mike.

Saw this video highlighting his ball handling. I came away thinking even more than I did before that he's going to be a Martell Webster. Its obvious to me now why he's a jump shooter instead of showing off that great stand still vert. If we wanted a spot shooter, we could have bought a late 1st round pick. You'd think in a highlight package they could find one clip of him taking his man off the dribble and using that vert.

Just not impressed.

Truly, most of his points come off of spot up shooting, or one dribble pull ups. Unfortunately for him, virtually every premier defender in the NBA plays SF. Not buying that he is gonna be a 18-20 ppg as a floor unless he seriously works on his ballhandling. Lebron, Iggy, Durant, Batum will all knock that shit so far away he'd wish Carmelo had to guard him every game.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

If Jae Crowder gives him fits like that, imagine when he gets to the bigs.

Re: Harrison FUCKING Barnes

I was hoping for Drummond/Rivers, but whatevs. More disappointed in #11 pick. Seems like a trade of the pick would have been better. Now they are Blazers and you just watch and hope you like what you see. We are due for some good luck.
