But with the hand on the Quran, that is tantamount to GFY and screw your Constitution infidel.
You realize this statement reeks of "GFY Muslim woman and your religious affiliations" ? whoa...…….you really think "Christian" politicians swear on a bible with pure intent.....ok in the world of politics some are sincere....but what about centuries of lying, fake Christians making biblical oaths and promises under the guise of patriotism? Free pass? I'd prefer to swear without a book personally if I were voted into office. Whole lot of talking in tongues over the ages if you ask me...values are not well vetted in that world

I think you jumped into the middle and missed some facts.

I read and study. I am neither Christian nor Muslim.

Sure. Do you, or don't you, think the Bible needs to be interpreted literally?

It's only a matter of time before they'll be swearing in to Google or Microsoft on their iPhone of Blackberry....it'll be stored in the Cloud.....(oh my god that new senator used Yahoo!)

How about the bare fact that they took their oath of office with the hand on Quran? That should make it very plan and clear to everyone.

"Rashida Tlaib, an American-born Muslim of Palestinian descent, was sworn in with her left hand on her own copy of the Quran, though she considered using a 1734 English translation that belonged to Thomas Jefferson. And Ilhan Omar, who arrived in the US 23 years ago as a refugee fleeing Somalia’s war, used the Quran of her late grandfather, who helped raise her."

I might believe that possible could be affirming to uphold and defend the US Constitution if they had their hand on a copy of the Constitution.

So your fine with politicians swearing on a bible but not swearing on a Quran?

Do you realize that only 2 of the women are Muslim? Ocasio-Cortez has a Jewish background and her family was converted to Catholicsim. Are you getting your "facts" from Kelly Ann Conway? :bgrin:

Yes, precisely because as it is now, Islam is Sharia Law which is incompatible with the US Constitution.

Islam, much like Christianity, is protected under the 1st amendment and just because some people practice Islam differently then others does not mean you should group them all together. Do you even know how she practices Islam or what she believes in? You spout off that its incompatible with the US Constitution , in that case then all religion is incompatible with the US Constitution but "we" have turned a blind eye to Christian and Catholics that go against the US laws and constitution to put their religious values and views into judgements and interpretation of laws. We are supposed to have a separation of church and state but it often gets ignored when the bible comes into play.

@Rhal
The Catholics nor any other Christian church I know of is in conflict with the US Constitution. The Constitution was created so this would be true, Successfully I might add.
I think you will find with a complete study that the same can be said of the Hindu and Buddhist as well as Shinto and Sun Tzu. No conflict. The only religious conflict with the US Constitution is with Sharia Law, which is integral with Islam.

It could be there is another conflict but I do not know of it.

riverman, my good man! Many a men have fuck up in countless ways. I can't count one that I can attribute to Jesus. You seem to have overlooked his good work.
I say this even though, I can not be a Christian, but not his fault, it is my own failing

Sun Tzu? It might raise eyebrows if a president swore their oath on The Art of War.

But heck, if we are expanding the definition of sacred texts, how about swearing in on the February 1962 issue of Playboy?

It works with the Constitution. But I probably would not do it.

I was going to post this in reponse to your last post in the locked thread, but I found the thread locked when I hit post.
I guess @SlyPokerDog decided to silence me. We will see.

Repost.
I have no clear cut answers for you.
When it comes the the Bible with many authors, or the Quran, with not so many.
Some parts of the Quran, it seems impossible to take literally, such as the midnight run to Jerusalem to confer with the big three, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. Seems like something out of the Arabian nights on a flying carpet. But then most of it is supposedly written by Mohammad. I don't know.

Then in the Bible the old testament or part of the Torah is probably written by multiple people of the Hebrew tribes according to the book Who Wrote the Bible.

It seems some take it literally and others do not. Damned if I am going to back the correct way. Then the New Testament we are told was written by the disciples of Jesus,
sometimes quoting the man, sometimes the God, either of which maybe speaking in parables. Some take it literally some do not.
I usually defer to experts to help me with this.

On a higher level, I find the teaching of Moses Jesus, Krishna, Buddha (Monks), Shinto Monks , and Sun Tzu very instructive and beneficial to men. On the other hand, I find Mohammad not nearly so beneficial, perhaps even destructive for most of mankind.

I would even speculate that the Quran is a spoof of the other two religions of Abraham, choosing the original to double down on to inspire the authors followers.

Thou shalt not lie? He’s a lying sack of shit. He should have put his hand on a Hustler magazine much appropriate.

Did Trump renounce his allegiance to the Nazis since then? Apparently they didn't get the message.

Of course you guys are correct, that is why it is mentioned in the Constitution. @SlyPokerDog agrees with you, no discussion needed.

Trump has recently at least four times re-tweeted British racist Katie Hopkins, approvingly. Hopkins is so racist she was kicked out of the British National Front. Too racist for an avowedly fascist group, not too racist for Trump. Hopkins has claimed falsely that white South Africans are being massacred by black South Africans. She calls immigrants "cockroaches", has called for a "Final Solution" against Muslims, appears on stage with Holocaust deniers, used racist language for black Britons and said when black people run anything civilization disappears. She blamed Jews for the massacre at the Pittsburgh synagogue, because they supported a refugee aid group.

A true role model.

Meanwhile Trump has called the four Congresswomen "racist" and "anti-Semitic". Because the greatest arbiter of racism and antisemitism is a white male who calls for the death penalty for innocent black defendants, says Nazis are fine people, praises Confederate traitors, and cites a Holocaust denier as an expert.
