Fiddle away at the Vineyard......you've certainly earned it.

Yeah, he should've stayed on the job like the last guy did.

Absolutely. Who do these guys think the are.....the President?! :MARIS61:

Give Obama a break. He's trying to set the presidential record for hours spent playing golf . . .

It's a recent phenomenon that the President doesn't take the summer off from the oppression of the swampland our capital was reclaimed from and head to more favorable climes.

I imagine you have a good insight into why they did that right about now, Brian?

At the Academy we didn't have air conditioning, so I had a bit of a clue what I was getting into. Now, I'm in my 30's and relatively healthy and in shape...I can't imagine being older, overweight, and not having some kind of air conditioning to head back to.

Ah, right, I had forgotten that you'd been there before.

I don't begrudge him some time with his family outside of DC. This vacation was clearly planned months in advance. It's not like he won't be working or have access to any information he'd have at the White House. The bigger issue is that it just turned out to be shitty timing and it looks so damn bad with the economy going back into the crapper.

A more seasoned political team would have had him take a vacation in a more modest home (28 acres on the Vineyard blows my mind) and a more modest location.

Shall we talk about the Obama's trip to Spain, during which they stayed in outrageously expensive resort hotels?? These people have no sense of shame--they're trying to wring every benefit possible out of occupying the White House until the country wakes up and kicks them out.

Should we talk about the fact that your hero had taken 3 times as much vacation as Obama at this point in their terms?

I think if I were the President and were faced with this set of circumstances, I would have dropped MV and just gone home. Of course Lake Oswego is much nicer than Kenwood this time of year.

At this point, my bigger issue is the chick bike Obama rides.

Putin he ain't.

I did, and I was critical of the timing of some of his vacations, as well.
I must have missed all those threads you started... and any other criticisms of George. I do recall a lot of praise though

to criticize Obama for taking a planned vacation when congress is also out (especially considering he's taken less then 1/3rd the time off then the guy you consistently backed) seems pretty hollow/partisan. Obama is middle of the Presidential pack as far as amount of vacation days while your boy George even surpassed Reagan to lay claim as the most on vacation President ever

When he's taken as much vacatio as W did, then you can start harping. Oh I know, stop blaming Bush!!!

Nah, I became critical of Bush, as well. In the end, I wasn't as staunch a supporter as you might think.

In regards to Obama, though, I guess it was more the timing of the thing. It's apparent to me that we're in the middle of one of the biggest stock crashes in history....with, seemingly, nary a comment form our Commander In Chief.......other than him saying he's coming out with some new super-duper economic plan upon his return from The Vineyard.

I dunno. I suppose it's more of an appearance thing to me. :dunno:

Meanwhile, my 201k continues to shrivel.

I know you wanted to say black people instead.

I don't mind that Obama goes on vacation. He'll remain in contact with information and advisors, and whether he's in DC or somewhere else, I don't really see why it's a big deal at all.

Ed O.

That's a fucking stupid thing to say.

Ed O.

you're right, because black people don't go on expensive trips...

SEE? THATS how you do sarcasm.

Again, to me, it's a matter of timing as stated above.

But, whatever....he's gonna do what he's gonna do.

what would you have him do with a congress such as this that is on vaca? Hell it seems no matter what he proposes they'll only pass something that is badly flawed so that they can turn around and blame him for it. Taking him down is more important to his opponents then doing whats best for the country.

everyone's investments are tanking following the downgrading... we're just starting to feel the effects of it. Polls show most Americans aren't blaming the President for not raising the debt ceiling and playing the dangerous game of chicken that ended up costing us all. They saw that he was willing to compromise and blame his opponents for not being willing. I'm guessing the next election won't feature the tepid turnout that 2010 did.

If you really think the issues people have with President Obama's policies are based on the fact that he's half black SlyPokerDog is the dumbest motherfucker in this joint.

Sen. McConnell's point is that he's not willing to make a real compromise, which has been borne out by negotiations with the Republicans. The House GOP wanted $100B in cuts to this year's budget; they got $38MM. The House GOP voted for Paul Ryan's budget, and Obama signaled to Reid not to even bring it up for a vote in the Senate. The GOP voted for cut, cap and balance, which would have kept our AAA rating, and again Obama signaled to Reid not to even allow it to come to the floor for debate. Boehner agreed to $800B in tax increases with Obama, and Obama reneged, demanding another $400B with no offsets. He got his $2.4T in debt limit increases, with the cuts to occur later (and of course they never do). He's a true believer, and I give him credit for his intractability. What he isn't, is a compromiser. We shouldn't pretend he is.

Like it or not, there are some people with whom you cannot negotiate. Those people have to be defeated. Only then can you begin to repair the damage. Until that time, the best you can do is stop the bleeding. McConnell is right. At least he's not playing Chamberlain holding up a piece of paper crying "Peace in our time!"

I think you meant to say "SlyPokerDog isn't the dumbest motherfucker in this joint."

And, no, I don't think the issues "people" have with President Obama's policies have anything to do with him being black. I think Shooter's issue with President Obama is that he is black. Shooter didn't say Obama has no sense of shame, he said "these people."

God this place sucks when there isn't Blazer basketball to talk about.
